  1. I made that mistake ONCE. I vowed never to get upset about a dive gone wrong ever again. ROTFLMAO!!! Amen. Ain't it the truth. Well, only some skydivers. Because people who are fun to hang out with are always fun to hang out with no matter what they're doing.
  2. Man, that's pretty nice. If it doesn't hurt the rig, go for it. By the way, the banjo art was done with a sharpie on the inside of the head so it won't get damaged by picking and it's so thin it doesn't change the tone at all. IF I painted a rig I'd just airbrush it with water based acylic fabric paints. Completely non-toxic. No solvents whatsoever. Seal it with Scotch-Guard for easy cleaning.
  3. AMEN! Stadium jumps are always a bit tricky. The wind swirls around inside them. One second you are sinking it right to the target, the next you're screamin' downwind and landing near the endzone. FUN! I like 'em!! I've got 3 stadium jumps.
  4. I'm sure what you call "garbage" is pretty freakin' awesome compared to my banjo licks! It's never too late to start playing again. Like I mentioned before, I started playing melody when I turned 40. At that time it was on a guitar. And I was horrible at it. A friend gave me a mandolin and that I was much better at. Last Christmas I traded my Martin D18V guitar for a 1926 Vega Tubaphone tenor banjo. I absolutely love it. But I'm sure I'm one of the folks who could get paid to NOT play. LOL
  5. Very cool! Learn something new every day.
  6. Highland, Uilleann, or something else? I've seen a few guys play Dudelsack (German pipes)... now those were strange. Ever heard of Corvus Corax? They're a German band that mixes medieval music with metal. Pretty cool stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRQ-S9EcmcY
  7. Ah... so what you're really trying to say is why consider it when I don't even own a rig right now. OK. Well I guess I can't argue that. I do own a banjo. You can look at that for now. http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb117/Fishmonger_707/mybanjo.jpg
  8. Yeah.. bringing art into the world makes absolutely no sense at all. I mean why add to color to already colorful sport? It has enough color. What everybody should do is just buy basic black gear because we're such a drab and creatively challenged group of people. That ain't MY willie! LOL
  9. I have no intention of dyeing a rig. But I would love to own a rig that looks like this... The LEFT and CENTER images are what I could/would order from the factory. The image on the right is an example of how I might paint it. http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb117/Fishmonger_707/stupid-artsy-fartsy-rig.jpg
  10. +1 I'll most likely find some cheap alternative or get a nice pair of full pants. Or, find a cheap alternative of full pants Like JEANS!

  12. You two should get a room. LMAO!!! There are more Irish today than at any time before! There aren't as many Irish militants because the Irish are getting their shit together and working out their differences with England and each other. The country isn't whole yet, but that's only a matter of time. I can't believe I had to say that. It's an undisputable fact. MOST Irish people know it, I know it, and I'm not even from there or have ever been there. (Funny what books can teach someone who's paying attention.)
  13. I was a drummer growing up. I played a kit in a garage band as a teenager. Today about the only percussion I mess with is a bodhran. I'm just OK on it but at least I don't speed everyone up! lol I took up melody instruments at the tender age of 40. No lessons I'm self taught.
  14. I've been working on "Shipping up to Boston" by DKM on my banjo. I know a couple Flogging Molly tunes as well. Been playing songs from the Clash on my mandolin. Of course this is all in addition to playing fiddle & pipe tunes. Gotta keep with the roots to make the fusion stuff good. There's a guy down in San Antonio who wants me to join his band "The Blackthorns". It's a Celtic rock folk punk type band. He's apparently got some good talent put together down there. Why would he want me?? LOL
  15. Right on! Pipes are great no matter what kind of music they're played with.
  16. You could always ask the mfr but I do think that I know what their answer would be. Although over the years I have seen a fair number of Pop-Top caps painted. JerryBaumchen .....and a lot of flaps, too!
  17. Pop or no, and TSO issues aside, you really mean to tell me you would order a $3000 Vector III in all white and then airbrush it? That takes commitment for sure. You could never sell it, the first fall you take on landing would screw the whole thing up, and even a different rigger packing the reserve would keep shit from lining up just right. How about a tasteful, factory colored rig, and maybe an airbrushed jumpsuit? Fancy patterns and stripes are some of the most expensuive options on a jumpsuit, so ordering a plain all-white suit eould actually save you money, and then you could airbrush the shit out of it. Those guys at the mall prove it can be done, and even if you fall down and trash it, you could just get a new one for less than 1/10 the price of a container. How about just buying some regular stuff and just skydiving? I'd give up BOTH my family jewels for some regular stuff so I could just go skydiving. All are valid points Dave. When I think about it, spending huge dollars on pretty gear doesn't make sense. Most rigs don't stay with their first owner for more than 500 to 1000 jumps MAX. And when getting current again, I'll probably want to downsize every 100 or 200 jumps until I get something I'm comfortable with. That said... I probably wouldn't order the entire rig in white. Probably just the closing flaps. The rest would be custom colored as any other rig would be. It's just something to talk about. It's better than politics and religion! lol
  18. Cool. Sounds like you mix it up a bit. That's always good. I have to admit to being a bit of a Pentangle fan.
  19. I sing, and play pennywhistle, Irish flute, piano, guitar, and dabble in bodhran and fiddle. AWESOME! Maybe someday we'll get to session around the bonfire after a days jumps.
  20. FROM A WHITE RIG?? Good luck with that... Thanks for the wish for luck, Not that you were serious. Actually, starting from white would be the best way to go. Otherwise the green would not pop against black or any other dark color. Besides, that was just a quick down & dirty kinda example. I may make it all colorful like tattoos. I dunno what I'd do. But if it violates the TSO, I guess I'd do nothing.
  21. Please forgive my newbness but what's wrong with an old pair of jeans? They'll dry out! lol
