  1. I watch F1. Your on! There is a new F1 track being built here in Austin. It will open in 2012. If you take a look at Google maps you won't see the track being built yet, but it will be just south of the southern end of the runway of our commercial airport. You had better hope the american F1 team can actually manage building a car. Even if you do it american chopper style by creating a car from everybody elses parts. And then they had better practice turning right! In all seriousness though, It is bout time america stepped it up on the F1 scene. The bummer is the US F1 team has already called it quits for the near future. They cited the "weak economy". I doubt they could find a driver who even knew what a right turn was! lol
  2. I want Galactica back. And Farscape. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7KcpgQKo2I
  3. ah yes, because popularity is what determines difficulty or excellence. Google 'lowest common denominator' while you are at it or man up to the 'fact' that in 'your world' Britney Spears and Michael Jackson are the best musicians EVER. Not in MY world, bro. In MY world it's hard to choose who is the "best". On guitar, maybe Robin Trower. On drums, Neil Peart. On bass maybe Les Claypool or Victor Wooten. Then you get into the world of traditional music and there are so many I wouldn't know where to start. Bela Fleck is one hell of a banjo player. But he's not exactly trad. Of course you Euro boys spend all your time listening to electronicrap, right? Or maybe rap I suppose. You know you can't spell CRAP without RAP. I just sayin'.
  4. Hey brother, you owe me a couple Euros. http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv/2010/02/08/2010-02-08_super_bowl_ratings_preliminary_numbers_show_highest_viewership_in_20plus_years.html

  6. It was an Englishman who came up with the name "Soccer". Don't blame us! "Rounders" is not baseball.
  7. You are tripping. Baseball more complex than cricket? LBW alone has more nuance than the entire baseball rule book! I dunno, lawn bowls probably has almost as much standing around doing nothing Seriusly, as much as I'll admit that American Footballers can hit harder than rugby players the sport as a whole is borderline unwatchable. Seems like it sold its soul to the TV dollar a long time ago, so if you prefer watching adverts to action, then you're welcome to it. HA! What do you know of the baseball rulebook? Explain the "infield fly rule" to me. QUICK! Do it now. Don't Google it. If football was "borderline unwatchable" it wouldn't get the highest TV ratings of any sport in the world including that poofy world cup ya'll seem to love. I tried to watch the US play England but fell asleep. -YAWN- What a snoozer.
  8. whats the weather like on your planet? you want brutal, in ireland we have a national sport called hurling, id put a hurling team up against your american football teams any day of the week and id have a hard time choosing between a hurling team and a rugby team but the rugby guys would probably ease ahead due to sheer bulk rather then toughness bulk Just for the record, I think Hurling is feckin' A COOL! The first time I saw it I wished we had it here. It looks like a blast to play. But it's nothing compared to our football. No sport compares. And that's a fact. I'm just sayin'.
  9. I had a close friend I used to do a lot of CRW with. This was more the more casual variety than big ways but we finished most of our jumps with it... biplane - side by side - downplane. We had a blast. But there is no sport as brutal as our football. Rugby almost comes close. But it's still a distant second. And soccer? LOL That's for girls and little children. Baseball is far superior and complex compared to cricket. And basketball? I dunno... I'd compare it to basket weaving. Stupid fecking game.
  10. Didn't expect to kill the thread. Sorry 'bout that.
  11. I've been to several, I thought it was an interesting game until I saw it live. OMG, tedious is not the word, 5 mins of play lasted 45 mins as they kept changing one team for another. I doubt that they have the stamina to play rugby. As for crash helments and massive padding what the hells that all about? I'm raising the BULLSHIT card to the above.
  12. That's beautiful work. You do this for a living? Thank you!
  13. Good point, Catfish. You may have been refering to my post... or not. Anyway, I was taking it for granted that everyone knew how to fly a downwind, base and final. I was merely rejecting the idea that everyone's downwind, base and final be from the same direction on every jump regardless of the wind direction. For example; the final always being from north to south relative to the pea gravel. It makes no sense if the winds are consistently out of the north all day. Of course "chasing the wind sock" is a mistake too. You can't do that on a lot of demo jumps, particularly in a stadium. The winds swirl and you have to be able to land safely and preferably on target regardless of the wind direction. On a dz you get guys doing low hook turns to try and land up wind. Personally, I think once you're at 500 ft, you're committed to your final. Changing then is gonna cause problems. If someone is cutting someone off below 500 then they're wrong. Not the guy who's getting cut off. It seems to me that canopy control and the proper way to follow a landing pattern should be a part of any student progression or at least A license certification. And maybe it is, but it certainly isn't thorough enough. One other little thing. It also seems to me that A license certification should also include some basic 2-way CRW skills. Folks don't need to freak out if someone's canopy bumps into them. Coming in contact with someone else's canopy is not an immediate death sentence. Have 'em learn how to land a bi-plane or a side-by-side. Basic CRW skills would go a long ways toward managing fear and learning to deal with canopy collisions... or landing two parachutes at the same time because someone pulled to low and their AAD fired.
  14. O'Neals are the brand choice for me, because the '08 version was camo and black. Anyways, they're $25 apiece, but I tend to blow at least one pair up a year...then again, I'm very hard on gear. Baggy MX pants (over the boot style) make really good tandem pants for TI work as well. Dave, could you provide a link or two as an example? I looked at some pants including some with zippers to remove the lower leg portion but I wasn't really sure what to look for. Most all had protection on the inside of the leg for heat but were not on bikes. I would think some sort of padding on the outer thigh and seat and reinforced knees would be the thing to look for. But I know zip about it.
  15. Well I'd certainly rather land 100 yards from the LZ than land downwind in a 10 or 15 mile an hour breeze... or any breeze for that matter, because of some arbitrary landing pattern. I understand the idea of establishing a landing pattern. I just don't think you should determine it before you get aboard the plane. You can take note of the direction the wind is coming from, sure, but double check it at 1500 or 1000 ft. Let the low man determine the landing pattern. If the low man is stoned and lands down wind, land out instead. I wouldn't want to come screamin in downwind at 50 mph, or more, unless there is water beneath me!
  16. I'm all for folks determining the proper direction to land at 1000 ft agl by using the wind sock. Set up your downwind, base and final from there. And don't cut people off when they are on final. If you want to swoop, do it in a designated area away from the main LZ.
  17. I watched a friend cutaway from a spinning malfunction at about 500 ft and never pull her reserve. She went in at the far side of the dropzone so we didn't know who it was right away. Operations were suspended for the day but we all jumped once the following day. Then went for beers to remember our friend. BSBD, Patty.
  18. Will that stuff hold up under extreme heat, like a car trunk? The extreme heat will likely help "set" the paint. this would be a very good thing. In fact the paint should be "heat set" either with a hot iron (put a towel over the painted surface first) or in a commercial dryer before attaching the canopies and packing/jumping it. No. Airbrushed fabric paint is very thin yet still opaque. You'll see a lot of t-shirts sprayed with this type of color. It doesn't bleed at all. ZERO. Not even through the thin fabric of a t-shirt unless it's sprayed heavily. The flaps of a container are much much heavier than a T. There are a lot of different kinds of fabric paints out there. Here is one kind that would be ideal. http://www.dickblick.com/products/jacquard-textile-colors/
  19. Rugby is cool. SOCCER is for poofs!

  21. If it's the same BLACKTHORN band I know...I have a CD of theirs.. good stuff + Wife and 3 of 5 kids love it* too. Hmmm... I doubt it. This band is brand new. At least I think they are. The dude never mentioned having a cd out but he did say he has a full studio at home. Maybe he did put an album out???
