This happened at my DZ, but i havent got any information on it yet. But the main here was cut away. BTW theres some pretty cool pics of the cutaway sequence right before that.

I only got about 15 jumps using tube stows on all the locking stows, and small bands for the rest. The openings seem to be a bit quicker and more on-heading. Just feels like a more pleasant opening overall. I plan on keeping this set up.

well this seems to be the solution http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/detail_page.cgi?ID=104524;d=1 if anyone knows of a decent 120 sabre 2, safire 2, or pilot, let me know!

Winter Jumping without Gloves?
SRI85 replied to Bodhisattva420's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
i wear thin instrument gloves for winter. despite how cold it is, i havent had any problems with my hands feeling cold. even when it was 18 degrees out last monday. -
I cant seem to get any harness input when i pull down on my risers (after i flare it out) It basically feels like i am lifting myself up by the front risers. theres no tension in my legstraps once i do this. canopy is safire 2 149 1:1. Any thoughts, suggestions? At first i was just pulling one front riser down to get it to turn and dive, i was getting better results doing this, but i was informed thats not the proper way to do it.
-
you can still have fun swooping the sabre 2 at 1to1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuwLSV93z2Y

Are rear risers used much when swooping these types of canopies?

And how many tests do you think PD did before they put out that recommendation? Reliable results from testing involves much more than a few “table pulls” on the ground. Sparky Well i have seen plenty of other jumpers and riggers utilize different set ups then what PD recommends. I think they should address that in thier videos.
-
I ended up putting just small bands in every spot. I think double stowing the locking stows with large bands created too much tension. I did some test depoyments on the ground and i think the single stows small bands provide the best result. (well for my set up anyways.)

Got lots of money??? All the "TOP" world famous skii places tend to be a bit overpriced. Many other not so famous places have runs and facilities that are certainly just as thrilling and far less challenging to the normal persons budget. You can ski for an entire season for what you blow in one long weekend at one of the "World Class Resorts" Just my $.02 Seriously, your paying close to $100 for a lift ticket.

do not, I repeat, DO NOT let this guy teach you how to pack. EVER!!! your parachute seems to be opening fine!

If you wanna stay on the east coast, Whiteface in NY has the largest vertical drop in the east. Great mountain that has everything. Jay Peak in Vermont is also another good one, really good glades, and there never a huge crowd like you get at killington.
-
if you click on the coaching in the video section, PD's Nick Grillet has a pretty good 3 part series on how to pack. if that doesnt work, drive down to cpi next weekend, buy me a jump, and ill teach you how to pack.

yea, but how can i measure how much force is required to release the stow? im gonna try using the small bands and tube stows, but i want to be able to test the force so i know which one is most ideal.
-
What is the best way to figure out the ideal band set up on your deployment bag? I know every rig is different when it comes to the bag, canopy, and line size. There is a recommended amount of force required to release the stows, correct? what is the recommended force, and what would be a good way to test this to ensure its the proper strength? Based on what i have learned about stowless deployment bags, my main concern is finding the right strenth at the locking stows. I currently double wrap my 4 locking stows (large bands), and single wrap my other 6 stows (small bands). Basically i just want a way to test which bands will give me the closest to ideal tension. I think my current set up requires to much force (at the locking stows) to open.(bag locks are not a concern)

thanks for all the good info. an airlock canopy will not be my next purchase. i think im likely to stick with the safire 2.
-
Ive been looking into airlocked canopies lately. 1 person at my DZ jumps it and swears by it. I rarely see anyone else flying an airlocked canopy though? Why is this? the airlock idea seems like a good idea to me,and i havent been able to find to much to negatives on them. Thoughts?

Hey billion where were you jumping where you landed multie times in fast moving ? Just curious
-
Why would you disconnect an RSL prior to chopping in a 2 out situation? It's seems pointless.
-
i disagree with disconnecting it for a water landing. You shouldnt be cutting anything away for a water landing. Chances are you dont know the waters depth, and what lies beneath it. Landing in the water and land should be no different, except loosening up your chest strap to prepare for a water landing. also, i probably wouldnt be jumping if the wind was strong enough to pull me away after i landed, typically when i do get some pull after landing, i just get the canopy in front of me and face the direction of the wind.
-
in AFF i was taught that if i were to land on top of a building, disconnect the RSL then cutaway.

What kind of flying with cargo pants?
SRI85 replied to JerseyShawn's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
its really just pockets for whatever you need them for. like a cell phone if your doing a night jump. i think swoopers like them for putting the removable slider in. -
Icarus recommends flying the crossfire at wingloads from 1.4 to 2.1. personally i would stay with the pilot until you get to that loading.

did my first tandem in 2004 at Fun Skydiving in CT, that scared the shit out of me and i didnt jump for another 6 years. may 25th 2010 i did my first AFF jump, and since then i havent gone more then 6 days without jumping.
