  1. Have seen your designs on ebay.. looks like you're doin' alright to me. keep it up! Gardner
  2. yes... but a felony? Come on. And the vote was actually 168-0, btw.
  3. Well after review of the video it appears that the amendment that was offered to include "piercing" received no objection and the amendment was adopted without a vote. The amendment offered by Rep. Heath (Who, incidentally, is the republican who ousted former long-time Democratic House Speaker Tom Murphy in the last election) was prepared and on everyone's desk. Apparently nobody had read it. All is not lost. Without question, the Senate will disagree to the House amendment when the bill goes back over to that side of the hall. A committee of conference will be appointed and that committee of conference will iron out the details. So no worries. Not sure what Representative Heath's motives were, but I imagine he now wishes he hadn't done such a thing as the local media has been hammering him all day long. It could have been to get the media attention (though I can't imagine a worse way of going about it). If you're interested in seeing/hearing the legislative proceedings, click this link and then click the March 24 link to load the archived proceedings. Senate Bill 418 is taken up at 1:26:00 on the timecode. Fast forward to that point to avoid the other proceedings. Did you know it's a felony in Georgia to sell a vidalia onion if it was not grown in the vidalia onion production area? to wit: 2-14-134. Violations; criminal penalties. (a) It shall be unlawful for any person to sell or offer for sale either inside or outside this state any onions as Vidalia onions unless such onions are of the Vidalia onion variety and were grown in the Vidalia onion production area. (b) It shall be unlawful for any person to package, label, identify, or classify any onions for sale inside or outside this state as Vidalia onions or to use the term "Vidalia" in connection with the labeling, packaging, classifying, or identifying of onions for sale inside or outside this state unless such onions are of the Vidalia onion variety and were grown in the Vidalia onion production area. (c) Any person who violates subsection (a) or (b) of this Code section shall be guilty of a felony and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by a fine of not less than $1,000.00 nor more than $5,000.00 or by imprisonment for not less than one nor more than three years, or both. (d) It shall be unlawful for any person to sell onions in a manner which does not comply with the rules or regulations established by the Commissioner under authority of Code Section 2-14-133. History (Code 1981, § 2-14-134, enacted by Ga. L. 1986, p. 3, § 1.) ------ Enjoy! Gardner
  4. Probably worth it... how much water does she draw fully loaded? Not sure what type of jet conversion you're talking about - you talking about the converted outboard foot? or is it a true jet pump? Check out the jetboat my buddy and I built. Took forever to build, but it's exactly what we wanted. Gardner
  5. Neither. My response was more from the standpoint of my own knowledge and recognition of Mr. Cole's wonderful accomplishments in the realm of skydiving, reading his statement/question from the standpoint of that knowledge, and drawing a subtle parallel between his accomplishments and the statement/question he posed. My post was not one to insult, but to, again, subtly recognize Mr. Cole as one who has done such a thing himself... and seeing the humor (although rather dry I suppose) in it. I see it completely went over your head; perhaps I was too subtle, or you just weren't aware of the history. Either way, there was certainly no insult intended, and I hope you (and anyone else) didn't/won't read it that way. Next time I'll just chuckle to myself and just keep my fingers bound. Gardner P.S. Some history To quote part of the linked page, "Bill Cole did a lot for skydiving in Canada... ...He was the 2nd person to purposefully jump out of a plane without a parachute. 6. Personally I'd rather have the sheath....
  7. Oh yes... certainly one must dream. In fact I believe that if you can dream it, you can have it. So get busy figuring out how to fund, mount and shield the thing. Could be fun. How about some of the High Power Rocketry motors? 'Course... pilots might be a little concerned about carrying an M motor on board. Ground launched.. maybe give Rutan a call. hrmmm. Sounds dangerous... count me in. Gardner
  8. Have you happened to PRICE one of these simjets? Lotsa $$$ and they're also very ornery. Good, but a pain in the butt. Plas how are you going to shield the exhaust to keep it from frying your azz?? Much of the problem with inflatables is the actual manufacturing of the bladders. It's $$$ to own RF welding equip, the technical aspects of heat welding are difficult to overcome for a hobbyist manuf., and solvent welding just doesn't really get the job done as well as RF or heat welding. It can be done, obviously, but it's technically difficult to arrive at a sealed bladder/wingform. That said, I'm currently working on a pressurized design. Gardner

  12. yes of course, but that same argument could be made about many of the teams that have competed and won over the years (more often, recently, of course). Gardner

    PC Venting Discussion

Yes Robi, And I completely agree with you regarding the production costs/benefits/keep it simple politics. I must admit that I have a tendancy to get lost in the theory of it all rather than the application of theory to production. But ultimately I do see the very real necessity of keeping things simple and keeping costs down. To that end, that is probably why I don't see any high aspect ratio annular PC's around (not to mention they wouldn't lend too much confidence at the exit point). You should see something that I've dreamed up; a real "rube goldberg" of a PC. Heh heh... show it to you sometime. Gardner P.S. in case you don't know rube goldberg... http://www.rube-goldberg.com/

    PC Venting Discussion

Well if that's the case, then why don't I see any terminal wall jumpers using high aspect ratio annular PC's? (apart from the obvious reason that I'm not hanging around bigwalls alot) The annular ring parachute achieves the same drag with far less oscillation angle than today's PC's (vented or not). I guess they don't open as well. Why? Still not sure that I'm buying the, "vent has no real or noticeable effect on opening time" notion... Maybe not noticeable, but I bet it can be measured. Gardner

    Pilot Chute Wear

well... I've seen some pretty ragged-out looking PC's *cough* mike *cough* More than anything I would make certain that the PDA line and apex are within tolerances relative to the skirt: that's your biggest concern with inflation of the PC. I've seen some damn-scary PC's where the apex came down below the skirt. See paragraph 4 of Bill Booth's reply in this thread. To quote: These things may seem obvious to the experienced, but I'm posting it here for the newbies. Obviously there's no kill line to deal with on a base PC, but the centerline (what I call the PDA line) length is critical (if exists). If your hook doesn't work on a BASE jump, it'll ruin your day. Gardner
  17. dang dude.. they're gonna leave it up and make you pay for it. LOL screen shot is on the way... Gardner
  18. Did you try flying a kite? Seriously... whenever the wind starts blowing, try to fly a kite. Then just as you're getting frustrated 'cause there's barely enough air to keep the fucking thing flying, quickly go and shoot video/skydive/whatever. But remember, you'll have to come back to the kite when you're back on the ground 'cause the effect only lasts for a little while. Best way to kill the wind: try flying a kite or go sailing. Best way to have kite-flying or sailing winds: break out the R/C blimp. Good luck Gardner
  19. Dang Jason now I'm going to have to call lan support and get a new keyboard; mine is filled with coffee. Maybe I'll just take it outside and hose it out. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. Hope all is well with you. Gardner
