how many of yall have intentionally stalled a canopy
USPA replied to TribalTalon's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've stalled my canopies numerous times. On a sabre 150 loaded at 1.2 I thought i was great fun. On my contrail 135 loaded at 1.6 I decided I wouldn't do that on an new canopy anymore. (after using 4000 feet to recover the shit.. :) ) Now flying at 1.73 and though I keep going to edge every now and then, I won't do a full stall anymore. A buddy of mine, bounces with a cypres, the cypres did fire, but the reserver had only line stretch (not enough time). I asked questions at airtec (I personally speculate his was strugling with his reserve pilot) if they could comment, but they replied they can't because of legal issues? UK...BPA propose manditory AADs on all jumpers below B licence
USPA replied to gerrcoin's topic in Gear and Rigging
He makes a valid point. In the Netherlands they are mandatory untill C license. I am neutral about the exact limit, but I hate change in rules without reason. In the netherlands for example we have only 1 fatality in the last 10 year, where a proper funtioning AAD would have made a difference. And you know what? She had an AAD! But it didn't function correctly. When you don't have people dying from no pull/low pull and most install an AAD in their rig by themselves. It is not nescacary to make it a rule, in fact you create new problems with it. The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. Uhm, you never pay for batteries in a CypreS 2, so that's like giving a sigar from your own box. The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...

How do you measure height and speed? Both by airpressure. Ok is airpressure constant? No! 1) Weather 2) Rig shape 3) body shape 4) freefall manouvres Are just a few factors which change airpressure... The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. Our system of changing gear is quite simple. When nothing is attached to canopy it is setup for staticline. (We have direct bag) We can also attach a complete springloaded setup. Only thing we have to attach is the bridle to attachment point on top of canopy. The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...

No, but the big differnce here is that the organisation renting out equipment is a bussiness. A reserve is normal expected use for a renting company, it should be their risk. When I borrow someone's rig, it's a favor, although an insurrence company would say it's the risk of the owner, I would pay everything. On another note, I've read this person didn't take care of the equipment, not even taking the time to search for anything. That being the case she or he should pay double. I'm no expert on US regulation, but wouldn't the TSO approval come in here? The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...

There is a big diference between renting and borrowing. In this first case someone is running a business and making profit, second case it's a favor. I am truly amazed the staff doesn't look after their jumpers. At our dropzone we also had f*kups, we're just humans, but it is unheard of of people in the sky and no staff (or someone that's been asked by staff) looking up. The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...

IMHO: When someone rents gear, you pay for normal use of this gear. A reserve is normal use of gear. It's also not uncommon to damge or lose the main. The organisation that rents the gear has to calculate this in his price. You can't blame someone for normal use. However if someone is careless, you can blame the guy abnormal use and let him pay. But since a baglock isn't a doubtfull mailfunction and the rig was packed by the renting organisations you can't say the user has been careless. If he was careless you should only let him pay replacement value. There are enough second hand canopies out their so replacement value isn't equal to new. Lastly the comparison with rental cars doesn't hold, crashing a car isn't normal use. The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...

I already asked in PM, but again. Do you see any problems in removing the crystal ball on Vector 2 tandems or sigma tandems without skyhook? I suggest the owner quits jumping immediatly, if you don't check your stuff, don't be angry if it isn't good. The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...

Looks ok, we have been using a similar setup for as long as I remember. Also all the loft's that I've seen use the same setup The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...

See my reply at another thread: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=995353;#995353 Also when people on a load land out, we always check with a name list if every1 is back. When someone lands out which we can't see land (So possible is hurt) we send out the car (see above post) The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. A good arch /exit position is more than a hollow back and pushing your hips forward. On this time in your progression I would strongly advise to only involve your instructors in your body position. They know you and ussually have a few years experience with different students. Trust them... People that are responding here don't know you, don't know how your exits look or know why an instructor gave a certain comment. Most likely their advice will only hinder or complicate your progression. The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die.
