So in the interest of talking about wingsuits ;) I have been around awhile with wingsuits and seen them go from very small wings with little more than an basic aerofoil to mega wings with cross venting, airlocks, grippers, profiled leading edges etc. So bar rocket men and solid carbon fibre wings. Where do you think wings will go; since we appear to be approaching some limits in terms of wing size and the human frame. So are we now just amking very small improvements or is there another step? Biggers wings? Better aerodynamics? Fully integrated Rigs (aka Fusion)? More internal structure? i would be interested in thoughts and not debates about brands or general bitching. Cheers Fraser Dont just talk about it, Do it!

Harry Potter and Mary Poppins and lots of crap acting and what looked like excerpts from Childrens TV bedtime stories, NHS drivel. Feeble overall; still its not like they wasted £21m on it. China must have been laughing. The Queen looked so pissed off she was picking her nails at one point looking bored when they cut to her for one shot priceless. Dont just talk about it, Do it!

Impressive stuff if you can sustain even your existing fall rate from 12,000ft to 4000ft you can take the world record for the longest flight. Average speed for 70 secs over 1000ft descent is 9.82mph Unless you mean metres in which case you'll still need to go to 30,000ft plus ;) Dont just talk about it, Do it!

British Base Jumper Death Friday 8 June 2012
verticalflyer replied to kenthediver's topic in The Bonfire
Its a BASE jump very different to a skydive, otherwise we would have every aerial related incident here, so if a paraglider has an incident is it here, no its in a paraglider forum somewhere. Hence this is for Skydive incidents. -
Whilst thst maybe the future the drones of even the 10% capability predator/reaper etc are more like £9M a piece not quite £30K. Drones are great for individual targets and surveillance but still limited for multirole engagments, show off force, mutliple delivery etc Dont just talk about it, Do it!

You have bought a wingsuit, hopefully you have taken the effort to find a good coach or instructor, so please take the effort to read the existing information which is readily available on this site FAQ's and across the forum and talk to the coach/instyructor, if I had a £ for every time this question occurs blah blah, I'm light hearted but please just do some reading and talk to a coach instructor directly about you set up, starting wingsuiting by using forums is fine but talk to real people local to you who know you your experience and your kit etc

Its not quite that simple, whilst the OBOGs systems are integrated with inflow, they dont go via the engines! Besides OBOGs has been around for ages and is fully understood against gen 3/4 jets. The critical issues are related to G onset rates and demand against the control laws at certain parameters within the gen 4/5 jets. In addition there are other issues within design which are potential show stoppers under a small number of flight parameters which until you generate a lot of flight hours do not appear in simulation. Thats about all I am allowed to discuss. Dont just talk about it, Do it!

Tony Suits Apache Rebel Review, Reality Check Edition
verticalflyer replied to lurch's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Lurch many pilots have done planeouts relative to canopies and other flyers at low speeds so we know we can transfer forward speed and descent into a decelleration of that energy and defelection from one vector to another. However personally unless i could achieve a climb from a very low initial descent speed already the debate is pointless. The I can climb from an 80mph dive is a waste of time, altitude and energy. Just my personal view but there is no point in acheiving climbs when you just burned so much initial altitude to generate the energy to be able to achieve a small climb that you would be several thousand feet higher if you had not even dived in the first place. Yay i can climb, yes you can but your 3000ft below me on the same time track but well done. Until you start strapping mini jets on you cannot achieve decent climbs period. Basic physics and aerodynamics are unlikely to change anytime soon. Dont just talk about it, Do it! -
Gary Connery's Wingsuit Landing in Boxes
verticalflyer replied to Birdman_Mike's topic in Wing Suit Flying
It fairly simple we all understand the risks without petty polls, its not about trolling if you new me you would understand that. I jumped from 30000ft in 2004 with an very new wingsuit big wing design which was sketchy to fly at times and my O2 exhaust system froze and I lost feeling at my hands by 14,000ft. However I new the risks weighed them up and we made a successful jump. However when you make those decisions they are very personal decisions, I jump for me not for fame or fortune or publicity. So those decision are mine having randoms look at a poll and try to judge those decisions from a usually uninformed perspective ass nothing. Secondly when people make these kind of jumps your included those closed to them relatives girlfriends wives dont tend to hear about or come across polls asking whether their loved one will survive be paralysed etc. So all I was saying is think before you post, your opinion is yours, but sometimes thinking about how it might affect others including loved ones takes a little bit of a different perspective other than your own. having worked previously as an air accident investigator at the sharp end dealing with relatives if things had gone wrong would be tough enough without a nice little poll that said I told you so. Gary Connery's Wingsuit Landing in Boxes
verticalflyer replied to Birdman_Mike's topic in Wing Suit Flying
To be honest this is a pretty sad poll from an experienced jumper, we are all big boys and to come up with a poll that offers paralysis options and death in addition to surviving is bad taste and poor judgment. I am sure he is well aware of the risks as we all our. But a poll really, what exactly do you hope to achieve a told you so if he has an issue? Dont just talk about it, Do it! -
I don't think he can fit all that cardboard in a TSA approved carry on. Yeah if only there was cardboard in the united states this could totally happen Well maybe in the future when you guys play nice the rest of the world will allow you to develop cardboard but until then we shall have to keep inspecting your buildings to make sure you have no cardboard capabilities ;) Dont just talk about it, Do it!

As Craig said to be fair its been pissing down with rain solid and high winds, so lets wait till the end of May at least

Fantastic flight well done, I also heard 16 miles distance very impressive. Look forward to hearing more. Dont just talk about it, Do it!

You need to read the above response from davelepka again and you will have your answer. As soon as the lead drops away your wingtip vortice advantage just left you. AS explained in the natural world its a strategy to enable greater duration for distance flights across the entire flock. Dont just talk about it, Do it!

I havent read anywhere he wont be jumoping without a rig on, only planning on not deploying it, very different. If anything did happen, post exit it would make sense to still have the deploy option rather than none at all. Dont just talk about it, Do it!

Survivable and walkable away from are two different things, think of the wingsuit into water at Bridge day and the outcome there. Dont just talk about it, Do it!

Saw a predecessor to this by another group of the same guys about a month ago, its a hoax but a very good one. Being broing think of the forces you need to overcome from self powered flight on a level surface with only arm power and running, at the moment they dont add up. A nice video though, notice the landing is blocked and the take off and flight are very blurry. ;) Dont just talk about it, Do it!

Recommendations please: T-Bird or R-Bird (or Phantom 3)?
verticalflyer replied to mhjelset's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Unless your RAF which last i looked you were'nt you might find Weston a bit slow; see link below. http://www.rafspa.com/ Dont just talk about it, Do it! -
My point was its a natural location not a staged pile of boxes. At the end of the day landing in a pile of boxes wont change anything. It'll be entertaining but it wont change wingsuit flying. Dont just talk about it, Do it!

I think the closest and ballsiest to a landing would be a ski slope like the sequence filmed with Loic jean Albert skimming close the ground. Jumping into a pile of boxes whilst requiring some basic glide path skills and bottle as the ground rush kicks in. Is not a landing its a controlled crash into boxes, if it was a landing you could land anywhere. Its like saying driving a car into a wall with an airbag on it is parking your car. Its a stunt period, it does not push the sport forward as it could be done tomorrow or a year from know. But its not a new means of safely landing a wingsuit, its simply a stunt and I am sure will be great fun to watch. Fair play for having the balls to do it but its still a stunt that does not change how wingsuits are flown or landed. When that happens then their will genuinely be a step a forward until then its a fun stunt; but it wont be going down in aviation history as quoted lol. And the first wingsuit jumpos were not 1995 they were way back in 30'-40's when Clem sohn was first flying wing structures. Dont just talk about it, Do it!
