How upstanding and pious, but you hate this girl-go figure Abortion in the late stages of development is not acceptable. But after 4-6 weeks if the woman has uterine cancer or if the baby is a risk of killing the mother you want to prevent the woman from being able to save herself by aborting the baby? Plus, forcing a baby to be born that shows signs of mental and/or physical deformities is absolutely absurd. B.A.S.E. #1734

Not really sure what you mean by that...so let me reiterate. For several reasons, you do NOT want to put your hand behind you and grab the hacky and just hold it...do NOT do that. There is of course the basic stability problem I explained above, but just as importantly...it's a horrible habit to get into for when you are jumping with other people. It's turn, track, wave & pull...not lay there with your hand on the deployment handle, someone 'else' isn't expecting that. Yeah thats what I was trying to say, he says he wants to hold his hackey for a little while he is making sure he is stable but if you track early and want to make sure you're stable if you think you have stability problems then it's better to do it before reaching back to pull. After you reach back to pull just pitch it and go back to being stable afterwards. B.A.S.E. #1734

With your experience, odds are that when you put your right hand behind you... you are actually causing some instability issue you are not detecting at this point. You may either be starting to turn or go a bit head down...or both. If you are actually pulling the hackey and holding the pilot-chute of a couple seconds you are priming the cannon for an out of sequence deployment. You recent line twist problem could very well be from doing that. I do not pull then hold it a couple seconds i hold the hackey a couple seconds then throw it, Will this cause the same? You're better off getting stable first for a few seconds, then pitching it. Not holding it and letting go. Also you should start learning to pack yourself so you can take your time and eventually narrow down what the problem is. That way you only have yourself to blame and you can improve on it from there. B.A.S.E. #1734

For the price of one HALO jump you can do around 20 tandems, or go through all of the student training and do some solo jumps. I don't think it is worth it. B.A.S.E. #1734

I would get a Wings they have some great package deals if you look in the right places and wings are great for new jumpers all the way up to instructors so you cant go wrong. The problem with getting a dolphin that I have noticed first hand is that the riser covers and reserve flaps on these rigs seem to open during free fall all the time and not too long ago a buddy of mine had a premature opening while in a sit with a dolphin rig so it's not very freefly friendly if you're looking to freefly soon if you have not already. Hope this helps B.A.S.E. #1734

I thought of AFF as a fun jump with my instructors and that usually helped me, a lot of times I actually forgot I was being tested and if you just have fun everything will come naturally. If you get worked up about trying to be perfect you will more than likely fumble around a lot and have racing thoughts and forget one of your steps. Just relax and have fun is all I did and I passed AFF 1 level early.

What aircraft will you be jumping out of for your AFF? B.A.S.E. #1734

That happens to me all the time. Either my slider comes down 2/3s of the way or it slams down and comes over the risers and I have to play with it to get my toggles release. Although mine is most likely due to me being new at packing. I'm jumping my DZs 150 triathlon and they have it set up with a bag for a 135, the canopy is relatively new, so this thing is a nightmare for a newbie like me to pack... B.A.S.E. #1734

I know this is a pretty old topic but I had watched the video again after learning a bit more about jumping as I progress through my AFF, and I really got ticked off for a moment after realizing he blamed the whole thing on his JM's and gave skydiving a bad rap so I decided to email him. This is what I said and his response... This is what he had to say in response, the same day. I didn't reply back because I'm sure he gets enough shit already, I just had to see what this putz lutz would say. Just thought this was amusing so I figured I'd share it! B.A.S.E. #1734

Yeah it's funny reading this because I can't really remember my first free fall and it was 10 hours ago, the canopy ride I remember but the free fall was so much like nothing I have ever experienced, although I did everything my instructor wanted me to do, I feel like I was a mindless robot and just did them with no memory lol. I can't wait until I start to calm down on free fall and really build some memories! B.A.S.E. #1734 -
Did my first tandem jump today and wow, 9 hours later I'm still trying to shake off all the adrenaline! Luckily I got the instructor that I really wanted, and he gave me an altimeter and a jump suit and trained me as an added bonus during the jump. Normally I guess your first tandem is all about taking in the sights but I did a pretty good job at keeping my cool and remembering to check my C.O.A and do three practice touches then wave off and pull. I guided the shoot to the DZ somewhat, and flared for the landing on my feet. Going for my ground training tomorrow and my first AFF Friday hopefully. I'm really thinking I found my new passion, it's very overwhelming that first leap out of the plane, I barely even remember most of the free fall because of all the adrenaline. B.A.S.E. #1734

Yeah I totally understand when you guys say I need to try skydiving first to see how it goes over and then we can really make a true assessment. The only reason I wanted to post this before I started skydiving is because I know if I love it as much as I am expecting to I will have a hell of a hard time not getting addicted to it. I explained how much things like this mean to me and there's not many things in my life that are more important than my love ones and my adventure side of life. We have reached an understanding and I think she will sleep easier when I am out making a hobby. B.A.S.E. #1734

Thank you everybody who responded. I talked to her and I think she understands how much this could mean to me and what kind of happiness it could bring me. If you guys have anymore stories about your struggles with loved ones and skydiving it would really help to see how you handled it. Thanks B.A.S.E. #1734

Hey guys, I am going on my first skydive this weekend and my family and girlfriend have accepted it, but once she found out that I wanted to make it a hobby and do it more often, she broke down and lost respect for me and thinks that I am picking it over her and that I don't care that I make her worry. I know you guys have struggled with this and experienced this probably worse off than I have. What can I do if this is something I feel in my heart I want to do when someone else can't understand that and is hung up on that little chance that something can go wrong and I could die. Please help. Thanks B.A.S.E. #1734

Wow! Glad to hear you are okay, you're pretty lucky to have experienced a cut away while in training and you now know how it feels so next time if it happens you are prepared. Congratulations! I can't wait to start AFF. B.A.S.E. #1734

I'm going to Punta Gorda, Florida. The place is called Skydive Southwest Florida, it's located at Shell Creek Airport. I visited there the other day and it's a nice facility. Website : http://www.skydiveswflorida.com/index.htm B.A.S.E. #1734

I'm new here obviously, just figured I would introduce myself. My name is Chris, I'm 18 and I will be doing my first tandem this weekened, followed by the standard AFF course to jump solo. I'm pretty stoked, I hope this can become something great and unforgettable for many years to come, looks like such an awe-inspiring experience to take part in. I'll let you guys know what I think of my first jump, and I hope I can get some great rig recommendations in the up coming weeks! Take care. B.A.S.E. #1734
