Even though that statement is one example of total buy-in to a constructed stereotype and wrong - in other words, bullshit of the most biased kind. However, even if your assumption was true - we'd return to business as usual within a half generation as people polarize like they always do. People are just people - your perspective is one that really underpins all kinds ______isms. it assumes that people can be grouped and judged and prejudiced. I can't help like feeling no matter how many times I repeat myself people will still think I'm saying all conservatives are religious bigots. I will say it again. In a world full of the FURTHEST RIGHT people, that would include the scientifically ignorant. My example also extends to a world full of the FURTHEST LEFT which would include the people who say the death penalty is not allowed full gun control etc. B.A.S.E. #1734

Atheists, agnostics most knowledgeable about religion

Agnosticism is a pointless position. B.A.S.E. #1734 -
Truth is truth. What about an individual who prefers living (existing situation) to dying (change) and thus advances knowledge in biology, medicine, etc... in order to extend life (existing situation)? Conservatives are known for trying to impede the progress of science through lack of funding, disbelief in evolution, and ignorance fueled by religion. Like I said, in world full of the FURTHEST right thinkers, we would not have the scientific and medical advances we possess now. B.A.S.E. #1734

Not really. Some people don't care about advancements in knowledge, which is to be expected. Some people think that their political viewpoint taken to the extreme is the cause of and will lead to all or at least most advancements in knowledge, which is to be expected. And where did I say that??? B.A.S.E. #1734

Is that what I said? Both are wrong IMO but, the lefty anit tea partiers wish to use the wide brush yet again it seems You will do anything to make sure you show how much you hate liberals. Is your mind really that one sided? It's pretty amazing. And before you call me another "lib" I actually oppose gun control so I'm not a one sided biased liberal like you seem to call me. Christine O'Donnell: Some mice have fully-functioning Human Brains
Prior23 replied to Andy9o8's topic in Speakers Corner
If there were so many holes in evolution and if so many people had the answer why wouldn't they get their ideas peer reviewed and published and they would win a Nobel prize for shooting down arguably the most solid and important theory in all of the scientific method, but this hasn't happened yet. Pick me one argument against evolution that has not been shot down completely. Evolution to this day has never had a question or accusation thrown at it that hasn't been thoroughly crushed. You have a propensity to make statements of absolutes, don’t you….. Logical absolutes are bullshit and don't do us any good in a practical conversation, the only truths that matter to us as humans are the truths that we can know to the best of our ability. If you are only going to tell me I'm wrong and not tell me why or offer a better solution then this is pointless. This is like going to see a presidential debate and one candidate is spewing out knowledge and ideas and the other candidate is just sitting there saying "You are wrong, that is all. Next statement?" B.A.S.E. #1734 -
What would be your idea of a resilient society? I didn't really follow exactly what you were saying, are you saying a society that is more diverse and has more viewpoints is a better society? Yes, all things being equal. A society where everyone is of a nearly identical mindset doesn't evolve. It comes up with fewer options to deal with a new challenge. While you might hope it would be a less contentious society, potentially offsetting this weakness, it seems that people will always find strife, always want to get more, as seen by the Soviets, or at any university academic department. A more pointed example is to consider how much progress was lost in Europe when the Church stifled real science for the better part of 1000 years. The ideal society would be one full of diverse viewpoints, but where ideas can be openly examined, critiqued, and voted upon. Reality, of course, falls short of this. Yes it does make sense that we need those who will make mistakes in order to learn from them and be able to further ourselves from a civilization because we cannot know how to do something right without also seeing how to do something wrong. Now I have a question to pose to you, let's say for the sake of argument that evolution is completely 100% bullshit and is proven wrong. What is your alternative to evolution, you cannot merely say evolution is wrong without having a better more clear alternative that's what you still have failed to tell me is lets say you are right about evolution, now tell me what is the better solution? Oh, really...? So... are you one who believes our Founding Fathers were just evil selfish rich white slave owners? Our founding fathers were not evil by owning slaves and not allowing woman to own property, this is just what society did back in these times due events in the past. In ancient Greece woman were not allowed to buy anything without a male supervisor present with them at all times. It is just how things were back then and we have started to open our minds up and give equal rights to all. There's no correlation between woman not having rights and that being an evil thing, given the right time period, things have now changed. B.A.S.E. #1734

Even if it doesn't say no separation of church and state there still has to be this separation because as soon as you endorse a certain religion you are breaking the first amendment because if you endorse Islam more than Christianity or Judaism more than Hinduism, you have therefore committed the act of establishing a religion under the united states so it violates the first amendment. If you do not separate church and state in America, you are essentially taking out the support columns of this country and what it stands for. B.A.S.E. #1734 -
Well as I said it would be the farthest right and the farthest left and the far right has a different view of the scientific method and the importance of the separation of church and state which can lead to a lot of developmental issues that can come from scientific advances through stem cell research etc. B.A.S.E. #1734

No they are not. You need to read the Constitution again if you think that. The intent may be there... but just like the 2nds "Shall not be infringed" seems pretty cut and dry people tend to disagree with that. In your mind who knows what it says. But there is a difference between not knowing that "covet" is adultery and claiming that there are words in a document that are not there. You are grasping at straws to try and make yourself feel better. How do you feel about Obama and the 57 States and him saying "Corpse" men? Will your bias let you acknowledge them or will you try to explain them away while continuing to bash O'Donnell? It is established that the first amendment recognizes and enforces the separation of church and state no, it does not. That is an interpitation. It does state that the state/congres shall make no law, that is not my opinion ,which makes it your opinion that is just a fact.sorry, try again I don't see why this is even up for discussion. When CO is bashed about this you guys immediately start justifying her by bringing up topics about Obama, I never mentioned Obama and he has nothing to do with her, I don't really care about him. Keep this thread on topic. I didnt, and no one was able to provide what I asked for Tell me rush, what does the first amendment mean when it says the government shall not establish a religion? Give me your interpretation of the first amendment instead of just telling me I'm wrong all the time. B.A.S.E. #1734 -
What does this have to do with folks who would like to reform our two-headed, one party political system? Your anti-Christian stand is becoming way too pervasive. Take a break, relax. Why is it that people who subscribe to a certain faith are always so quick to say "hey, take it easy on my faith". Your religion makes very bold claims and if you want to be respected you should expect to be scrutinized when your ancient book turns out to be nothing but an outdated scare tactic. B.A.S.E. #1734

Don't you guys think it would be a very interesting experiment to take all the far left people in the world put them on an earth and fast forward 5,000 years and do the same with conservatives everyone starting from the ground up and seeing what the end result is and how different things are run? I have some predictions http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/future_city_downtown.jpg http://legvi.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/dinner.jpg But all jokes aside and biases aside it would be a very interesting study. Them boys should get a raise. The free welfare housing should be going to retired and wounded and homeless vets. I have always had the positon that those who serve active duty should not be required to pay any federal taxes . They should also recieve their SS without paying into it as though the did But that is just me and no I have not served Just one of the mistakes of my life I admit to Great, so I get to pay for our country to go make mistakes in other countries?
