"Screw you guys!" I wish I could have made it... Oh and Robby, the only reason you stood up all of your landings is because sand won't stain your white jumpsuit! (sorry dude, couldn't resist!) Congrats on your first beach jumps....now pay up! ...you too junkyarddog!! -

Do you know if they are confirmed to come and organize? -
Well there's some close by in Z-Hills...ask your "hubby" about the stampede he started a couple of weeks ago when we all swooped into a cow field. BTW, I had nothing to do with us landing in there...

Dude, you and your rational views are totally sucking the fun out of this thread I say let's kick him in the balls, and tar & feather him!!

SWEET!! It will be nice to have something going on here. Are any organizers getting lined up? -
Thanks everyone...what a blast this trip was!!! Yeah, Freeflybella is right...Doug and I were tied for 1st through 6 rounds. Since all competitors got winded out Saturday for our final 3 rounds, those results ended up being final. I want to commend all the Advanced guys. It was a tight race and it was still anyone's game going into Saturday. I was really impressed with the overall level of skill in the Advanced class. I remember going to Panama City last year as a spectator, and I gotta say that the overall talent level in Adv at Wildwood was definitely a notch above. A great foundation is being laid for HP canopy piloting and I'm looking forward to the years to come...

This past weekend I spoke with an experienced videographer who told me that he shoots all of his tandems in LP mode and has never had any issues or complaints of quaity from customers. I was surprised to hear that because I have been under the impression that you should shoot tandems in SP. He works at a high volume DZ and he says that most, if not all, the videographers at his DZ shoot in LP also. I did a search and found some people saying that the shoot tandems in LP and never had issues. I also found many responses of people saying don't use LP because of the potential problems that could arise...but I couldn't find any about actual problems working with LP. My question is have any of you had any issues using LP? Also, if you have had problems with LP, was it a new tape or one you were re-using? Please refrain from posting the potentials because I understand those. I know tapes are cheap, that's not really the issue. I'm just sick of the tapes piling up! If I could get 3-4 more tdm vids per tape that would be great. Thanks in advance for your responses.

Want to thank all you guys for coming out and making this event a succesful one at our little DZ...until the hurricane hit that is! It was great to see everyone again. Each event has been a learning experience for the organizers...and each event has been progressively improving for the better. The kinks are getting worked out...hats off to Chris H. and the rest of the FLCPA crew for their hard work. I had such a fucken blast at this event and I can't wait until Z-hills! Hey Shimmel, I never got to congratulate you on your 3rd place finish...nice job dude! But you know what that means...no excuses now Since you guys didn't stick around Sunday for payment, here's your for my first cutaway that I had during the comp. -

Count me in Shimmel. I'm sure Volo will be game too... -
But I didn't do anything different than I usually do. If anything I was giving less input, just over longer period of time, because I had come out of my turn a bit high so I started my carve higher and just more gradual (does it make sense what I'm trying to say?) I must have hit a pocket of turbulent air and the only affect I felt was the loss of lift. I didn't feel any "bumpiness" or surging....maybe because of the airspeed I had??? It was definitely turbulent that day, but I hadn't felt any under 1500'. Oh well, lesson learned and I didn't break myself. Thanks for your guys responses.

Yeah I didn't buy it at first either because it didn't make sense, but we couldn't really think of why this happened. Our DZ has nasty rotors coming off the trees from time to time, but it's pretty obvious when you hit one...and it didn't feel like I hit one. Like I said I was in the middle of my carve and everything seemed familiar/normal and then the bottom just dropped from under me, no warning. Headoverheels - yes I was using rears and harness in the carve. Definitely.

I understand what you are saying and you are 100% correct...but that does not answer my question. The intention of the post wasn't to start a flamefest about crossing the beer line. FYI, there is about 75ft between the beerline and the closest obstacle and there were no spectators in the area...slow day at the DZ and it was the last load of the day. Plus I barely cross the beerline, maybe 10ft at most. Whether I had stated that I crossed the beer line or not is completely irrelevant to the question I have posed. Yes, in hindsight I should not have tried that maneuver next to the beer line. I was just using that as a point of reference for my carve. So please, unless you have something to say directly related about the question I have posed in my original post, please refrain from the BS flaming. Also, this is not directed at you HooknSwoop, but just a general comment for everyone to please respect. Thanks.

This past weekend I had an incident that spooked the shit out of me... I set my line to come at the beer line at about a 45 degree angle, planning to carve past the beer line and then cross back over it into the landing area at about a 45 degree angle...basically a long, gradual ~120 degree carve, which I have done this exact swoop many times without incident. That day, the winds were about 12-15 knots directly crosswind to the beer line - heading from the landing area to the hangar. I'm about halfway through the carve, putting me facing perpendicular to windline, and all of a sudden I lose all lift! I get off the rears and gave the toggles everything I had and just avoid femuring, but get slammed to the ground pretty good. It was not due to a low turn, actually I was a bit high. It was not a rear riser stall...I have done this many times up high and unfortunately once during a swoop, and it's very distinctive feeling. Plus, I didn't have much input on the rears during the carve. I have never experienced anything like this before...it was like my canopy just quit flying. A very experienced skydiver/HP pilot with over 5000 jumps watched the whole thing and he wasn't sure what happened either. He said that it looked like the bottom just dropped out from under me. The only conclusion we could come to was that the point that this happened, I was at the steepest point in the carve, which exposed most of the top-skin to the crosswind. This puts the lift vector mostly in direct opposition with the wind vector, in which the wind vector won!! My question is this why this happened? Was the lift force not able to overcome the wind force?

Is there such a thing as a DVD burner that will burn both +R and -R? If so, then I would return it and get one of those. Then we can ask customers how old their DVD player is and then burn the appropriate format. Yeah, I'm heading to Thomaston this weekend....give me a call if you wanna go.
-
Hey knobby, did you ever find out if your DVD burner would burn the +R's correctly? Didn't it say something about only burning -R's?
