Thanks for your help everyone. I've decided to get 18" risers.

Well, I hope you like "warm" weather jk.I'm not sure just what to tell ya concerning the cost of living situation.There are alot of factors to take into consideration there.(hell I'm a college student,"cost of living" to me means how much Ramen I can afford.) As far as jumping goes,there are some good DZs in the DFW area.If you want a smaller 182 DZ theres Eagle Flight,which is a short trip from Ft. Worth.Dave and freaksister both did their student training there and I made my first tandem there.There are some great people to hang out with at EF. You can also come visit me at Skydive Dallas. The facilities are super nice and the staff is great!SD has a 182, Caravan and an Otter.Its about an hour-hour and 1/2 drive from Dallas. Theres also and a number of other nice DZs if you ever feel like taking a road trip around TX...Skydive Texas,Skydive Aggieland,Skydive Houston,Spaceland etc etc). None of this probably helped answer you questions, but here it is anyway.(sorry!)I'm sure Dave will add his input too. "...just an earthbound misfit, I."

Ok,I have kinda short arms and I've always had trouble reaching my toggles comfortably.While selecting my options for my new rig,my dealer suggested shorter risers. How would shorter risers effect my canopy flying? (sorry if this question seems stupid) "...just an earthbound misfit, I."

I think I feel good about helping everyone out. I decided to get up at the crack of dawn and head to the DZ today for some coaching. I only got one jump in but atleast I'm current.I had to leave early to beat the traffic home so I could get in a bit more shopping.Since I stayed up so late last night wrapping (yes I noticed everyone liked the bow on my butt comment.) and b/c I got up so dang early, by the time I got to my grandmother's house I just curled up in a chair and fell asleep until dinner. So tomorrow I have to hit the malls w/my sister to help w/her shopping.Sunday I'll be doing my mom and grandmother's shopping. Hopefully I'll get out to the DZ again Monday but if I dont I'll just end up wrapping more gifts.This is how I get to spend my holiday..no parties,no boogies, just wrapping gifts and shopping.*sigh* Well, if it is a gift,I have no one to give it to. Apparently no one had a "moodyskydiver" on their wish list this year. "...just an earthbound misfit, I."

Its not that big of a deal really.I just felt bad for my friend and her kids.I'd want her to do the same if ever I fell into that situation. I'd hope all of you would do the same too if you happened to end up in my situation.*shrug* "...just an earthbound misfit, I."

Heres my story: I spent today taking my grandmother Christmas shopping b/c she doesnt get around very well anymore. She mostly just sat in the food court while I ran up and down the mall buying gifts for my mom and dad,sister,her hubby and 4 kids. After 4 hours of nonstop shopping I got to go my grandmother's house and wrap all of the gifts which took another 3 1/2 hours. On my way home I got a call from a friend of mine who was upset and wanted to know if I'd come over and share a beer.No problem. Well,I found out my friend(who is a single mother of 2) lost her job this past week and was so depressed b/c she had nothing to buy her kids Christmas gifts with. So I give her a hug and tell her things will be ok,She has no family. all the while feeling guilty at the amount of money I had spent on my own family just a few hours earlier. So I had my friend write down clothing sizes for the kids,and ask them what they thought Santa would bring them this year. So at 8 pm I found myself heading back to the malls again to help my friend. Now, after spending $200 I really didnt have trying to help a distressed mother and 2 kids get their Christmas wish,I sit in a sea of wrapping paper,tape in my hair and a bow stuck to my butt. If the winds are too high tomorrow for me to make a jump then I'll be back in the malls again helping my mom and sister with their Christmas shopping. I've had an unbelieveably shitty year and no one will be happier than I am to see the end of 2002. Even though this year has been horrible,I've made wonderful,interesting new friends and become part of a great sport that I am dearly in love with. One thing after another went wrong this year, but somehow I became fortunate enough to have the opportunity to be able to buy new custom gear for my first rig. So I'm curious.Do you believe in Karma? I've been in TX my whole life and I think I've actually played in snow only 4 or 5 times.Closer to OK/TX pan handle in might snow and stuff,but where I grew up snow was a rare thing.For example its a week til Christmas and its 72F right now.I'm walkin around in jeans and a tshirt.
