  3. I desperately need tits, legs and arse to look at and preferably hold :( Ladies feel free to post pics or if you're shy pm... Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  4. The purpose of this demonstration is to show the cutter is able to cleanly cut even very tough material. As I wrote before, I unfortunately missed to record the more interesting part: It also CLEANLY cuts a loop that is NOT tightened, not put into a plastic tubing. Even then it doesn't fail to do what it is thought for. Nope, the purpose of the demo is to sell AADs. I wouldn't be surprised if an Argus cut a ripcord cable. As someone else mentioned an un tensioned loop has a different set of problems when you try and cut it (I have no doubt a cypres would cut it) Cool demo non the less. 5. Life insurance that covers skydiving covers your family, you may struggle to get permanent disability cover and that is something else to consider. While it goes against normal dz.com advice (you'll be told 10+ jumps a month) consider doing 2 jumps a month AFTER getting your A license. It will keep you technically current and allow you to enjoy the sport. Spend the whole day at the dz or weekend if it works for the family. just remember that following this pattern will make you progress well below average, so to keep the risk low stick to very conservative behaviour. 6. As pops said use the time to learn your canopy. Something that I always do is finding which way is into wind and gauging the drive I have. Just remember the wind is usually the.same direction as the ground, but not always. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

I was a student at the time and what I remember was the local skygods (I was in Africa) were in total shock that 'the' skygod could be killed due to a freefall collision. It didn't change our attitude to aad though. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  8. No I never had 'the talk' with my parents, but they did accuse me of being gay :( they felt it was unhealthy that I hung around my best mate and we spent every weekend jumping together (what they didn't know was his cousin owned the local gay niteclub, and as a result we would go there for free drinks!) 9. Weak immune system. Best cure is to provide BJ's for skydivers... Serious answer - look at your lifestyle. Sleep, diet, exercise (sometimes too much can be bad), and cleanliness. My dad has a theory (vet background) that people who are to clean can have weak immune systems. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  10. The thread in general skydiving where adults fret about telling their parents about going for a jump got me thinking. What else do 'normal' people tell their parents... Feel free to disclose to your skydiving family about your first :) Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  11. Video is classified I'm not so keen on everyone seeing crumb kiss my arse as I funnel him It was the worst 4 way I've ever done truth be told. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  12. You know you can solve that problem by reconnecting your risers, swapped left-for-right. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  13. It was a good weekend wasn't it.
  14. What an awesome weekend. Competed in the State championships (4way) and got bronze, despite flying like a retarded ferret. Secondly Mr 'I'll never downsize' is sick of going backwards in 20 knot winds, and has been given a 150 :) time to go back to hop and pops for a while! 15. I did... And along the same lines.... Ted Mayfield. Gotta add the bad to every mix.... altho some will argue the amount of bad. DB Cooper Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  16. It's not about hero worship it's about having some clue as to the history and pioneers of the sport many proclaim to love. True, but nowadays the two get muddled up often. Look at the posts after yours regarding Travis... But as far as getting grumpy about people not knowing them, whats the point? I'm a skydiving addict and obsess over the sport, other people its just something they do to get laid Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  17. No there's no need to hero worship, and he was just being a grumpy old fart. That said it is nice to know milestone people and general trivia. Tiny Broadwick Tom Piras (good reference for never being too good to die) Joe Kittenger Dan Poynter, bill booth, Ted strong Your AFF instructor! 18. Internet can suck for communication. Whatever you do a formal canopy course is invaluable, and I can assure you will get value every time. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  19. I was 16 and needed the waiver signed, so I had to tell them. My folks thought I'd be too scared to jump so they signed. 21 years later they have accepted that I like jumping :) Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

  21. 70% of women are battered. And to think, I've been eating mine plain... Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  22. Well I like eating women too. But I prefer them alive :) Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  23. If someone, ANYONE, had presented some evidence that this proposal would fix the apparent issues, then I'd agree. However, that hasn't been done. We simply don't know that safety will improve, but we do know that costs will increase. Following your logic, we should have special USPA rated intructors for ALL disciplines beyond basic 2-way belly flying: camera, head-down, sit, swooping, CRW, bigways... since all of these have produced fatalities. For someone who is involved in education, your lack of faith in education in raising standards surprises me. Current educational practice, enforced by all accreditation agencies, requires EVIDENCE BASED continuous improvement. Not guesswork. That's not really what I mean't. What I was asking you, is do you see NO value in educating jumpers? I get the fact that you would like to see research and evidence gathered first. As we have no formal structure at present, it is difficult to have continuous improvement as there is nothing to measure against. I think that Scott summed it up quite well - surely there is evidence from OTHER area's of life that show education improves safety? BTW I'm not picking on wingsuits, I'm happy with all advanced aspects requiring some form of training. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

For someone who is involved in education, your lack of faith in education in raising standards surprises me. I think there is a shocking lack of knowledge in modern skydiving and see this as being correlated to safety at some level. Would you mind expanding on why you don't see formal education helping improve the standard of jumpers? Australia has a Crest system in place, Wingsuit crest is coming soon I believe, but there is an RW crest, FF crest, CRW crest etc. Without the crest, you are restricted in what you can do. There is no formal 'instructor' for the crest, however the requirements for obtaining the crest are clearly laid out. For example you can't do more than a 10 way RW jump, without your RW Crest. This involves 3 successful 8 ways, where you dock 5th or later, and are signed off by the CI. At face value it is a workable system, without instructor overhead. 25. Thanks for detail Dave. I didn't think you meant do nothing, was just trying to clarify the detail. Solo jumps are very important I agree. Interesting that this dz provides the coach jumps as part of the package. Maybe offering a solo or hop and pop where the coaching is a video and debrief of the canopy flight is an option?
