    Amazing guy

http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=259024590799085 I really wish I had this guys outlook in life.
  3. My rig doesn't have an RSL installed at the moment. Basically the lanyard is attached to a point right next to the reserve handle D ring (when installed). My risers dont have the RSL ring so fitting an RSL would involve buying new risers. Summary of my concerns are 1) Snag hazard 2) I wouldn't like to have a finger/thumb in the wrong place during a cutaway (going by the picture only). 3) it is different to what I am used to (mirage G3 typically) At my experience level and type of jump there is no reason not to have an RSL. 4. The new Sumsungs look pretty good. I know someone who just traded their Macbook for the Samsung and is very happy. Otherwise I've always had success with Dell. They aren't very fast or sexy but they have tended to last. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  5. I am interested in getting a few opinions on the Teardrops RSL routing. An old thread here had discussions about it and I don't like what the manual shows. Maybe it is because I haven't seen the RSL setup on other pop-tops, but it looks like a snag hazard. If anybody has photo's of a teardrop with an RSL fitted I would appreciate it. 6. What? You mean you actually make sure the students actually understand the concepts behind the stuff they have to learn? You don't just let them parrot back the answer to pass? What kind of instructor actually makes the students learn??? I've never understood the people who don't like understanding how our gear works and the technical aspect of the sport. But then I know I am an engineering geek. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  7. I used to live to work. I love being creative and travelling so it was easy to get sucked into it. Then about 18 month to 2 years ago I woke up and realised I hardly knew my own children. I decided that I have achieved what I wanted from work in that I got patents in my name, served on committees shaping European legislation and did some fun designs. The only thing I didn't do was get rich. Now it is all about to change - moving out of the UK to Australia. Work won't be so cutting edge but there is so much more family time and I'm looking forward to it. My new goals are surfing with the boys, looking at stars with my daughter and successfully doing a kiss pass with my wife
  8. It's a good article. The media mess up just about anything technical in nature not just skydiving, I wouldn't sweat it. I like the way it is birthday girls who go on tandems, certainly a nice bonus at the dz
  9. Ummmm...just so there's no confusion here...Coca Cola, eh? So that's what i've been doing wrong all this time Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  10. No, I have not. Actually, I know very little about what the non-USA world is doing. That is why I want the PIA Rigging Committee to take on the task. They could request input from 3-7 other countries and that come up with something that could be presented to the FAA. Personally, I think it is nutzy that my 89-yr old pregnant grandmother can make a main canopy but only a FAA licensed rigger can pack it. JerryBaumchen I have extracted the packing section from the Australian ops manual. Personally I think have 2 packing ratings is excessive, although I think a "packer A" is more of junior rigger because they can pack reserves. 11. You need to hook up with Shah, he'll make a good toyboy Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  12. Simple solution. Ignore all Shah threads. And yes, that is an engineering response. You think that's what the blokes in the car were doing? Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  13. So isn't there a rumor going around that for a couple of $$$ Andy will sign anything that you send to him. Oh . . . Hi Andy. JerryBaumchen I heard it was coke. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  14. Cause swoopers on that canopy cut you up in the pattern and it sounds slightly better than "overtaker" Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  15. Dunno if they specifically nixed this for the Sabre 1. While it is certainly unsuitable for many newer canopies, it was a standard-enough practice on old-school square canopies that at least one other mfr. recommends it for similar application. Anyway, it works really well. I appreciate that, Nigel. Sabre 2 is a way different animal than Sabre 1 and opens more softly anyway. I'm a little disappointed that PD kept the same name, but the original was marketed very successfully, hence the follow-up. Thanks Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  16. And here I thought you were one of the ones who actually read the SIM. Ooops thanks Andy. Not a good start to asking about a test on the SIM Do most instructors have a copy of the test or is it held at the DZ? I was planning on giving Skydive Carolina a call as I will be driving past there. Sadly I won't be down in the Georgia area, or I'd be hassling you for this Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  17. Don't PD say that you shouldn't do this? I have only jumped Sabre 2's and have never rolled the nose, so I am trying to learn here. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  18. I am in Greenville SC and Charlotte NC this week and I would like to do the C license written test if possible. Is there anybody that is able to help me out with doing this? I don't know if it just has to be a rated USPA instructor, or if any other restrictions apply. Willing to provide for the help. I may not be back in the US for some time, and I'd like to get this checked off. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  19. Hi Jerry, Have you had a look at the Australian ops manual and their rules on packing? It looks very good and similar to the Brit system. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

  21. Nah, wait for next season to start. We'll have another poster attacking Sangi and Docpop of being canopy nazi's who just don't understand how things work. I hope he heals quick that video was scary. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  22. Does that make sex more or less important than thunder? And why are they normally goddesses not gods? Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  23. Ok..."If"...God does exist and you're judged when you die, will you be found innocent or guilty? Which of the thousands of gods would that be. There is exactly the same amount of evidence for the existence of each of them. Not true. I believe in Zeus and every time he gets pissed off with whoever it is that is responsible for lightening he proves to me that he exists. OK, but there are 45 other thunder gods - how do you know it's Zeus? Wow I didn't know that there were so many. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

  25. Why just politicians? Why should they be allowed to do something for protection but not me? What gets me now is in my home state of MI I had my CCP, am able to carry in a number of other states, former Army Infantry, been to countless NRA and other shooting classes and competition, never had anything more than a speeding ticket about 10 years ago but now here in the state of New Jersey I cannot do anything with a handgun. Sure am glad all the gangbangers still have their guns strapped on them. Ok rant over. Actually I was thinking the other way around. Democrats would probably use them to rob the rich Robin Hood style, and republicans can't be trusted not to shoot each other (Dick Cheney, being the role model for this one) Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
