>He meant if it was on the reserve. So did I
-
1(number of times I cleared a mal that was ready to be cutaway):3:0 Spent most of the weekend packing reserves and doing some rigging, but had enough time to throw in a couple of attempts for a Mr Bill... The second attempt: I was the "pilot". Right after the exit, my "passenger" decides that in addition to holding on to my harness with his hands, it might be a good idea to grip my legs with his. Not good. The momentum of him throwing his legs around mine tilted us seriously head down while I was pitching the PC. As the opening shock tore the passenger away from me, I started wondering if the world should be spinning the way it was... Then I thought:"Ahh, that line probably shouldn't be going around my leg", and promptly released the line to where it was supposed to be. Looking up, I saw my Fury in a tangled mess on the other side, the other side was fine. There might have been a line over, but if there was, it cleared when I pumped on the rear risers a bit. An uneventful canopy-ride from 1400m down from then on... The passenger lost a shoe when he fell off me. Serves him right for causing me a mal. Erno

>Thats why I would be rather worried of a combination of closed >nose and no-crossport construction (Atair experimented with > no-crossports in endcells?). That's a feature on the Cobalt. No crossports between cells 3&4 or 6&7. I don't recall cobalt's deflating at low altitude though, there was a Crossfire and some crossbraced canopies (VX or Velocity, and a Xaos as I recall) Erno

>remember the guy on the cheerleading team? everyone > made fun of him...he had to be the smartest straight guy around! As long as the cheerleading chicks believed that he was straight... "Hey, you want to go out with me sometime?" "Yeah, ha ha, you're so funny" "No, seriously!" "Well ok, we can all have a 'girls nite out' sometime." "No I mean-" "Gotta go, I have to go talk to that football player!" "but----" Erno

>gay skydivers mean the the odds of getting the skydive women > of my dreams just went up. if the rest of you were gay I'd be too > busy with the women to skydive. I bow my head before your wisdom. Erno

>maybe they should have people sign a waiver before they >can smoke/eat junk food/drive a car or whatever, same as skydiving... LOL! Just imagine them hungry horizontally challenged(was that correctly politically correct?) people standing in line at McDonald$, while the first people in line sign multi-page waivers.... Erno

>I think maybe I'ill sue all the stupid and weak people of >america for making us look stupid Yeah! And I'll sue everyone who has ever raised a ridiculous law-suit, for causing me mucho mental anxiety! And since many of them are filthy rich from the compensations they've received, I'll never have to worry about jump-ticket money again! [insert evil maniacal laughter here] Erno
-
>has to be one of the most ludicrous law-suits I have ever heard of I'll second that... Only in America! I heard a rumor that there maybe a possibility of a chance that the ridiculous compensation system in the States might be changed to something more sensible sometime in the future? Specifically the amounts of money paid to people who sue large companies would be set according to the damage suffered by the person, and not the wealth of the company. The companies would still pay according to their wealth, and the difference would go to wherever... Or am I just being over-optimistic? Erno

>So why do we go skydiving? 'cause we can?

>(...)FXC on the main... the number of times the things fired it > would be highly infeasable to put it one the reserve cos of how > long it takes to repack and not being able to be packed straight >away. Huh? All student rigs on my DZ have FXC:s in them. I don't recall a single incident when an FXC would have fired prematurely(on my DZ, that is). Re-cocking an FXC is a routine thing to do, maybe once a month a student pulls too low and the FXC needs to be re-cocked. It doesn't even necessitate a full reserve repack; just open the container, re-cock the fxc and close the container. And a reserve repack takes less than an hour when done by an experienced packer. And two hours or more when done by me

equipment/training suggestion for a 300lb wannabe?
ernokaikkonen replied to jumbo's topic in Safety and Training
>And people who don't have anything sensible to say should not >post on this particular forum...... Actually I agree with TK. Skydiving just isn't a sport for everyone. Some people will call it an "Extreme sport". I don't think the equipment is the biggest issue. Skydivers(especially students) should be at least in reasonable physical condition. We do get bumped every once in a while(especially on student landings...) and the ankles of fit people won't be going "snap" as easily as those of overweight people. My DZ has limited the weight of students to 100kg(220lbs). Bigger people just have so much more momentum to hurt themselves... Erno -
Quicktime. Bollocks. Don't have qt installed on my workmachine and don't have admin-priviledges to install it... Thanks anyway... Erno

>Have you ever or how many naked jumps have you done? Yeah, I did one a couple of years ago. It was a lot of fun, just a hop'n'pop from 1100m, but it DID get a bit cold... An interesting feeling; after exiting the aircraft it got cold pretty quick, and when the parachute opened, it felt like the temperature went up 10 degrees(C)! Also I felt a bit unstable, because there was so little "control surface" without clothing. I'm in no hurry to do another one, unless it's really warm... And it would have to be an RW-jump! Erno

Is the trailer available anywhere on the Net?

Your question already got answered, but welcome anyway. And remember this Erno

>not if the rigger has to pack the reserve big that it does >not moves in the container... Sounds a bit strange to me. I do have zero experience on Odysseus-rigs(and pretty near zero on any rig...), but as far as I know PD reserves pack bigger than most(!). Maybe you should ask another rigger? Maybe your rigger just packs too goddamn well
-
>Got a Odyssey J1K with a PD 143 reserve. My rigger is complaining > that the reserve is too small for the container. Does someone has > a PD 160 or anything else in this container? I like to have the >biggest reserve in there which fit... A rigger complaining that a reserve is too SMALL for a container?? It'll just be easier to pack... But to the point: Sunpath website tells us that the reserves that fit the J1K are in the 143-150 range, so there really shouldn't be a problem.(www.sunpath.com --> sizing) Erno

Other sPorts thats YOU DO........humm..?
ernokaikkonen replied to Freeflyfucks's topic in The Bonfire
>I can answer that with one button on my keyboard. >"$$$$$$$$$" That took 4 buttons; Shift, 2, AltGr and 4... Seriously, the only other sport I "frequently" do is rollerblading.... I bought the blades before I started skydiving so it doesn't cost me any extra. I've been considering taking up some martial arts again, after a 10 year pause, but it would just cost too much jump tickets... Erno -
>What about sleep? You gotta sleep. Yeah, on the ride to altitude... Jumping at a Cessna-DZ has some advantages: Ride to altitude (3000m) takes over 30min... Plenty of time to sleep! And to quote an ad in Skydiving:"You have to eat... Well, you could always stand to lose a few pounds"
-
>You mean to tell me you actually get your reserve repacked? lol Well, since I can do it myself... Just one more supervised packjob away from my ticket!

>42 Points hey. >I turned 42 points on a 1 way once. This must be a Zen-thing! You know, like the sound of one hand clapping?
-
>Umm...you get 54....is this a trick question? Sort of... You'll have to read "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"-trilogy by Doughlas Adams. All five parts. Erno

How many times do you look at your altimeter during a jump?

>newer Larsen & Brusgaard audibles have a port for one, but the >light isn't available yet. We've been waiting for that light for quite a while now... As I recall, I've heard rumors of the "led-accessory" for the Pro-Track for a couple of years. If and when the light comes out, I might consider buying a ProTrack. If they added a feature for turning off that annoying beeping... Erno -
Ah-ha! Now we know what that "42"-stuff was all about! The meaning of life is to turn 42 points in time! Erno
