  1. I use a .5 on my PC120 for tandems, just past arms reach it gives a nice facial detail. I use my Diamond .3 when I'm within arms reach of what I want to shoot. When I'm inside RW, or when I'm just about docked in Freefly. If you're outside filming others, the .6 will work fine. A .6 is probably just about right for tandems. If you're not REAL close, the .3 is too much. The .5 is real good overall, and is cheap.
  2. I get as much stuff as practical from my local gear store owner, Bonnie of Gravity Gear. I get new and used stuff from B&H, they may be a little more expensive, but they don't screw around with you like many of those Atlantic state mail order houses. I've also used Paragear and Sunshine Factory. Sunshine Factory is real nice to do business with. I'd like to get some stuff from Lisa at Square One, just to talk with her
  3. That sounds like you don't think poor people should have children. I hope that's not what you mean. Parents need to prepare their children to succeed as best they can in the world. They should be taught to study hard, achieve goals, compete with themselves, and live to the maximum of their potential. Sometimes those qualities will produce a Bill Gates, and sometimes the most productive manager of the JiffyLube franchise in the region. I'm proof positive that college education creates opportunities that would not otherwise exist, but it's not necessary. I paid my own way to a State College BA and MPA. I do think that the children of two-parent families do better. I take my role as a father seriously, so I get frustrated by all the 30 something women I know choosing to have kids and raise them without fathers. I also think that every time people have sex, they should be prepared for the consequence of children. Except Narcimund Kids are serious business, but love and attention prepare them for success, not money. No, you shouldn't have to have college tuition in the bank before you have kids. I think you should want and be prepared for kids before you have them, though.
  4. Hmmm. I'm probably about twice your age, but about 10 times more cagey and evil... I'm with the ladies. That's where the cookies, hugs and love are. You gotta go through me, Texas boy, unless of course the ladies are just being coy, and WANTA play rough. Wouldn't want to interfere with your fun... DAMN I'm feeling good! Cornholio is driving to Eloy with me, my family is flying down on the Monday after the big weekend of skyjumping and eating, and drinking (with the Corndog doing the driving of course
  5. My last clear recollection was when you got out of surgery. Been REAL busy at work, have really neglected the DZ.com neighborhood news. Great to see you in the air. Clearly, you already have a qualified vidiot chasing you around, really great pictures, super framing and the expression on your face really captures the joy of skydiving.
  6. I was wondering where Dove went. How's your recovery coming? Wages are real high in the Bay Area, but like Lummy says, housing costs are staggering. I live out in Antioch, way in the East Bay, about an hour and 45 minutes from Oakland in the morning commute, about 2 hours from San Fran, if you give yourself time enough to deal with some traffic complication. Some nice two bedroom apartments were just built nearby my house and they rent for about $2 grand a month. Paying that kind of money for rent, I can't imagine how the hell you'd save for a house.
  7. LOL! Yes, the sight and the swivel mount are Finley's
  8. What a cutie! Great haircolor choice too! Auburn! Whooo-hoooo! If I had a tail, I'd be waggin' it! Eloy! Baby! Eloy! Heave to, and prepare to be boarded! Hey, B-squared! If I grabbed your leg like that, would I live to tell the tale? Looks like a good time was had by all, Jack is a great host! JP
  9. Phree, that's just plain garage genius. That's the best, simplest, cheapest solution I've seen yet. You've got me thinking, and that's no small feat. I've had the ratchet come undone, and without the additional chinstrap, I'd a lost the whole shebang. Two pins, one for the chinstrap and one for the ratchet, both on one handle...... I think the argument you'll hear, with or without merit, is that when the helmet comes under tension with your whole body hanging from it suspended under a line entaglement, that you couldn't pull the pin. That's the genius of the three ring system, as I understand it. So maybe a combination of your pin idea, which I think is brilliant, combined with a ring system to address the issue of detachment under load is the ultimate solution to helmet cutaways that are compact and safe. Really neat! If you're coming to Eloy, I'll share a pitcher of good beer with you for sharing that! Simple and low profile. That's the kind of genius that built the first airplane and invented Velcro.
  10. Yo Z! Getting the cameras aligned without help is worth the Buzz Lightyear ribbing And some way to effectively chop the helmet hasn't shown up yet. I've got about 130 jumps on it, and haven't had a single problem. I jump a Spectre, though, and haven't had any bad openings, either. Worst so far was brake line unstowed on opening, and I pulled some G's before I got the other brake out. TO FOURTEEN THOUSAND, AND BEYOND!
  11. I bumped this cause it has some photos of my setup and some others, and curious camera flyers have been asking about setups. The laser in the pictures is for alignment only, and I don't fly it. JP
  12. I use both a Kenko .5 (for tandems) and a .3 for inside video. Kenko: set to infinity and sports program. The props look really cool and you can pull decent screen shots if your 35mm malfunctions. Diamond: Put lens on, set program to automatic. It will not work on sports setting. Point camera at something the distance you want, and then lock the focus. I have a 120 and they both work great. JP
  13. Search the thread. I did a write up with pictures of mine. JP
  14. Congrats. You know, you should never wear a brand-new hat like that without first putting a decent crush in it Carhart jacket, Levis, Aggie hat, Miller lite. Stereotypical?.....nahhhh. Good work. JP
  15. Yeah, I don't think JM's should kiss students. I think the rule of leave the students alone until they get off AFF is a good one. I actually feel kinda bad for the new female jumpers off of student status. Now while they're trying to learn the finer points of skydiving, all these guys are clamping on to them and smooching them. My first kiss pass was with my wife, she was tandem, on our 16th anniversary out of the Cessna. Awwww. B-squared must be mighty agile in the air, cause if she hasn't been kissed, I can't imagine it's for lack of trying. I didn't have my camera suit when I was at the Perris Invasion, so I went low when Bytch set the DZ.com Female Freefall Kiss Pass Record. The current record stands at 4. Eloy. JP
  16. I'm missing your point, but I'm sleepy. I haven't reloaded ammo in quite a while. I think the US government will watch the situation deteriorate on its own. With the US flying armed drones around with impunity, killing folks out of a clear blue sky, the dictators are gonna be skeered to go out much, and that makes it hard to keep your regime under your boot.
  17. Actually Deuce buddy, I believe the hostages were released the day Reagan was inaugurated. This was an obvious slap in Carter's face by the Iranians. I was vague on purpose cause I couldn't remember specifically when after he got elected. It still makes my point. The Iraquis respect strength. They are afraid now that the new cowboys in Washington are gonna nuke 'em. The situation was unstable before, and it's less stable now, and I think that will break in favor of removing Saddam. Maybe even without a conventional ground war.
  18. Yeah, baby! That's the best kind of Mother to be.
  19. We don't have to now. Remember when the Ayatollah released the hostages when Reagan was elected? UN approval isn't relevant now. Convenient, and polite to obtain, but irrelevant. Saddam is going down softly in the next 6 months. Targeted bombing, commando operations, then occupation without a shooting war. The US will set up a military government on the Japan model, and will run the country by proxy for about 10 years. I don't agree with all of that, but that's my view through the the Mr. Peabody Way-Front machine.
  20. It means Federal Judges will be appointed. More of them will be the type of judge that enforce the law as written. The judges will be there long after the administration changes. Contructionist judges mean that the legislators have to write down the law in plain language and pass it. Then the constructionist judges will enforce the law as the legislators have constructed it. Laws will "mean" what they "say". I think that's important. A "STOP" sign should mean Stop, and not be open to interpretation. Otherwise, not much will change, not really.
  21. And speaking of that o.j. dude... http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&cid=492&ncid=762&e=10&u=/ap/20021106/ap_en_ce/simpson_ticket Ugh. Now he's slashing Manatees? That's low even for him....
  22. I'm in line with Narci. My girls go to a private school to the tune of a luxury car payment every month so I don't have to listen to them parrot back NEA propoganda. Pammi, I'd ask your son where he heard that stuff and ask him why he believes it is true. We have a rule in our house that Mom and Dad Know. My wife and I go over it in parent-teacher conference with my kids and their teacher, and in the presence of the teacher we all agree that Mom and Dad Know, even if the girls hear something different at school. The teachers (Wow, kidergarten and first grade so far....) have respect for it. The kids must obey their teacher at school, but Mom and Dad determine right and wrong. I bet if you called the teacher and talked to him/her, they'd love to hear from you. Lots of parents aren't involved at all in what's going on at their kids schools and the teachers tend to look after the children of the involved parents. "Yvette, Camille, beer is good for you. Especially Guiness-'A meal in a glass' ". "Now throw this empty one in the recycle bin, cause we care about the environment, and get me a full one from the fridge door, please"
  23. So long as your fridge didn't register and vote. And Sharkman, the voting stopped on Election Day, even in Florida. The COUNTING took a month.
  24. WAS Election Day. Polls closed at 8:00, unless you know a judge
