  1. Jess, I got my MPA (Public Administration) from a State College at night. It has consistently given me the edge in the hiring process, particularly against competitors with a Bachelor's degree. Most of the examples in the article you site didn't end up working as administrators. If the hiring authority has a Master's, she's going to be looking for employees that speak her language. I don't think you'll be sorry you went to the trouble to get it. I certainly am glad I got mine. And congratulations!

    Cop respect?

My favorites, that I heard: It's in the glove box with my pistol. (With a $20 folded under his Florida Driver's license) Here, son, let my just pay that fine right now. Have any of you ever had a cop actually take an "instant fine" ?

    I need a camera

My Sony PC 120 takes decent pictures. The advantage it has over the 101 is it has a flash for indoors, where really good debauchery takes place. Or pools, which can have decent debauchery too.
  4. I agree. If you miss an expression on a customer's face it's not the same as missing a grip. And the teams are in competition, and you can feed off that. But getting the close up face shot of some leadbelly with a stout tandem master who's sqirming around can be just as tough as getting a clean exit with a four way team. And the teams WANT you to get thier grips. It's fundamentally different, one being recreation and one being competition. If I had a choice, I'd shoot 4 way for sure. My original point is for a new shooter to have a goal in mind. If he wants to work into 4 way video, many of those skills will be developed shooting tandems, and shooting tandem video of folks who might buy it is a thrifty way to get camera jump numbers up.
  5. Oh, Mujie, you little studlette! Did you see that we got 209 head-down? Busted 200 on your first head-down! Don't let that world champion swoon you! I've almost got my Eloy video ready for DVD! PM me your mailing address. Your headdown with me before your contacts detach is priceless. Plus you are in two of the formation loads. Good stuff! JP
  6. Well, are you shooting souvenirs or do you want to be good enough to ask for slots and money? Please go to Quade's site and check out his advice for new 4 way fliers. It was a very thorough answer to a post from me, and I sent the Q dog a case for taking so much time to boil down his expertise into a beginner's primer. I shoot tandems and RW stuff for money and slots. As soon as you are getting compensation, you better be able to deliver the goods. I think tandem video is the most challenging, because you don't know how fast they're falling until they get out, and you have to figure it out like RIGHT NOW. You gotta be able to fly with your feet on your ass and your elbows collapsing your wings, and next time you gotta have everything out cause the pair's not even barely breaking 100mph. Have a goal in mind when you put the rig on. If you want to film souvenirs of your skydives, you'll be shooting from inside, and can use a wider lens. You also don't need a wingsuit. If you want to do tandems and RW ways, check out Quade's site. Be proficient in RW before you start. Good luck, and be safe.
  7. #1 Royal, Black, and Red #2 Royal, Black and Red with black tie-die. Chuck's helmet is so cool, you barely have time to notice how cool his rig is.

  9. Duh! Hell yes I'm jealous! But I got to video the formation loads of DZ.commers at Eloy! Nah-nah-nah. I also got one 4-way video of the Georgia Tech team. No, I'll probably never go to Nationals. I'm kind of like a "Mini-Quade". Puny like that.
  10. Geez you f*cking whiner! Maybe get MORE pictorials published in Parachutist? Photos and Whine by Paul Quade
  11. Franck's wife is here. He also said he's got some other friends that are bringing him stuff. I'll try and find some French language stuff for him. And Lisa, you would LOVE Carrol. He's not out of the woods just yet, but I think he's on the way.
  12. I case you missed it, Franck was involved in a midair collision with Carrol at Byron last Sunday. One of my mentors, Gareth, posted about how he got into the ICU to see Carrol. You have to be a relative, so voila! I'm Carrol's nephew now. I'm also Franck's cousin. Really. Anyhow, Carrol first. Carrol is a tough son of a bitch, and one of the nicest, most generous people you will ever meet. When I had like 17 jumps, he regularly did RW with me. He, along with the other very generous expert belly fliers at Byron brought my skill level up as fast as possible by being patient, motivating and constructive in their criticism. Carrol actually didn't look that bad. He's on a respirator, and has some drainage stuff hooked up, and has leg compression garments, but his color was good, he had warm hands and feet, and his pulse went up when I talked to him. His eyes aren't really tracking, but he does open them when someone talks directly to him. His lung doctor and his nurse said they thought he was going to be OK. The hospital is on my way home from work, so I'll be stopping by a couple times a week until he gets out. I suspect it will be a while. Franck, our buddy from Eloy, is going to be fine. He had some internal injuries that were fixed via emergency surgery, and has some broken vertebrae. He has no paralysis. He was awake and lucid, and feeling very crappy about being in the collision. He is very preoccupied with how Carrol is doing. I was very impressed with his compassion, and he would not talk about his own injuries until I had told him everything I knew about Carrol's, which really was not much. Franck was having a true Byron Love day until the accident. Carrol, and Mad John and another jumper he couldn't remember by name were doing 4 ways. Franck couldn't get over how open and friendly the jumpers at Byron were, and his gratitude for the hospitality while jumping and the tenderness he experienced while waiting for the helicopter were very touching. I'm so proud to be a part of the Byron love. Apparently yesterday, due to the narcotics, he was only speaking French and couldn't understand why noone could understand him. Thanks to Bonnie, Gareth, and Liz for updating me on how they were doing, and how to get in to visit them. This was deliberately not posted in incidents. I will not discuss any details I happen to know about the collision. Please say a prayer for our brothers. Or vibes or whatever. And when it's my turn to be in that bed, come and visit me and touch my face and hold my hand. Fly well. JP

    Hug Please?

I'm editing my Eloy footage, it all just crashed so I have to to it again. And all I can think of just now is you telling me "it's beer thirty, BITCH!" on video. You also tell me about Shiner Bock "you can get it in Texas, but you can't get it here, BITCH!". Fuck you Aggie Dave! Suck it up and soldier on! I know we're a warm and fuzzy group and all, but you are tougher than anything some softhanded wuss is gonna shovel your way. You're young and you're tough and you are a Texas rawhide son of a bitch. Joke 'em if they can't take a f*ck! PM me if you need some more level headed advice, I love you, in a whiskery sort of way.
  14. California King. With a feather top thingie.
  15. Has anyone tested that theory?! Yo creo que por solament seis segundos. Donde esta casa de Pablito?
  16. With my 120 it just gets fuzzy like when you overzoom it. Max told me how to compensate, by setting the lens manually and then changing the shutter speed, but I haven't made the effort to really figure it out. My bad. But I have spent most of today editing Eloy footage, and the .3 is just the greatest inside lens made. Cajones, how do you edit down a WEEKS worth of footage into one tape? Man! Your Eloy tape is worth every penny. Editing is hard! JP
  17. Replace your divots, dammit! Thank God for that grass! I got like 15 really nice butt-swoop landings on that stuff! If it wasn't for that nice, slick turf I'da been done jumping Friday morning. And for you weenie weak-sisters who can't stand hearing about Eloy, prepare your wussie constitutions for an unrelenting tirade about Perris the Memorial Day Weekend. BWAH!
  18. No shit? You're going? Neato!
  19. Deuce

    GUESTS OMG

    You are a whore, JT.
  20. The .3 cannot be used universally. You can bump the zoom up to about a .6 but then it goes fuzzy and there's nothing you can do about it. I am a huge Diamond lens fan, but it's difficult to use them on the Sports shutter setting, which is really good for tandem video. I use a Kenko .5 for outside shooting and the .3 for inside.
  21. Deuce

    ELOY numbers

I haven't seen Mujie posting yet, but we got 209 on her first head down! Her first head down, and I'm betting her first time over 200! Beer in Hawaii!
  22. Is Memorial day in there? B-squared and HH were talking about planning another invasion for Perris Memorial Day weekend. I'm down for that.
  23. Oh, that's awful. Franck was in the four-way base of our successful 6-way hybrid at Eloy. Fun guy, and I'm glad to hear he's recovering. Anybody know who the other jumper is? Please post or PM me. JP
  24. Congratulations! It was so cool to meet you, and I'm so glad you took some time from judging to come jump with us. Hey, I got one of those jumps with you, so maybe your record needs an asterisk? Maybe you get Diamond wings with clusters for including a Deuce jump?
