  1. I have the video. I might try to digitize it and upload it, because I think there are lots of people who don't believe it's possible. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  2. Who was the first Jew to hold cabinet level office? Interesting little factoid -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  3. Just one wrap of tape. I've also been playing with putting it inside out, so it sticks to the canopy and holds the lines centered. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  4. Actually, I'm finding this interesting enough that I may try to go out and do a couple with toggles in hand this week. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  5. It's fine. I crosspost and get dinged by moderators of other forums, from time to time. I figure if it really is topical in both forums, it ought to stay in both. Thanks for pointing it out.
  6. I've used masking tape quite a bit this fall, because I've been moving brake settings and don't want to bother moving the tailgate until I know where they'll finally end up. So far I haven't been able to tell a difference between the tailgate and the masking tape. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  7. A few general comments: 1) I'm going to leave this thread active. I do think it's good to talk some of these things over, and we can have some positive outcomes (note, I'm seeing a little start toward warming in the old Parkton standoff, and I think that's good). 2) The next person who directs a profanity toward another poster will be banned, as will the next after that, and so on. Stop calling each other "assholes" or whatever else, please. 3) Let's all try to calm down and talk this out. Carolina politics seem to be one of the main causes of locked threads on this board lately. I'd like to see if you guys can come to some kind of resolution. Not only would that be good for my headache, but it would also probably be good for all of you, and you objects. John has been grown up enough to post his phone number. I wonder if anyone will be mature enough to pick up the phone and call him. Talking directly to each other is almost always more productive than shouting on the internet. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  8. John, You may be judging Leroy too quickly here. I'm almost certain that this little fuss today has nothing to do with Leroy, or his posting of that video. I'll PM you. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  9. Is your slider up or down? Are you using a tailgate? I've seen several slider up line overs on McConkeys. I've yet to see one line over with a tailgate, though. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  10. I have the advantage of being able to read all the IP addresses. I prefer to speak to him privately. As you can see from my post in the other thread, I'm not a fan of anonymous flaming. I do think folks should sign their name when they post things. I also think that people posting things on the internet is often a poor substitute for real person-to-person communication. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  11. You are leaping to (incorrect) conclusions. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  12. Check this thread in the Wingsuit forum. Here's my reply to the same question from that thread: -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  13. Yup. That's exactly what I'm saying. If one of my students goes out and blazes something, even years later, I do share some of the responsibility. The sooner after they leave my tutelage, the more of the burden is mine, I believe. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  14. Honestly? I'd rather Powell was president than Bush. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  15. Nope. From Bonfire to Speaker's, but from Speaker's to the Recycle Bin. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  16. Actually, I'd probably make an effort to jump with them more, and lead them into better ways. Leadership is only rarely about brow beating. Still, in this case, it sounds to me like what you have is a lesson you've learned about student selection. The real way to avoid these kinds of problems on your home ground is to be very careful about who you bring into the sport. You and I have the luxury of being able to be very picky about who we train--because we're not doing this as a business. Not a whole lot you can do about that now, just something to think about the next time. We've all made mistakes. The trick is not repeating them. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  17. A note to all: Let's try to keep this discussion civil, as well. A thought for John. Once you start training people in your area, you are responsible for them in an ethical sense. Just saying "it wasn't me" isn't really sufficient, in our normal community ethics. Teachers and mentors are expected to exercise good judgment in selecting students, and instill good ethics in those students. While no one expects you to be responsible for 100% of things that go on in your area, by starting the training cycle, you do create a certain responsibility for yourself in it's outcome. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  18. That one. I actually had an old man in a hotel room do it once. But it's generally a rigger task. All it really takes is a fingertrap tool, a bit of the appropriate line, and a bar tacking machine. It's also, in my opinion, an absolutely essential piece of gear maintenance. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  19. Try a floating handle on some skydives. In my opinion, floating handle is way better than hackey, and also better than internal handle. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  20. Not owning a Flik 322, and not weighing 300 pounds, it's all hypothetical. But I'd say to properly adjust forward speed in that configuration, you'd have to move the setting quite a bit. I know that to create appropriate forward speed (i.e. minimal) in brakes on my FOX 265 when I weighed 210, I had to overshoot the factory installed tailgate by about 3 inches. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  21. While I tend to agree with you, I cannot allow the creation of multiple logins for purposes of posting this sort of thing. You have sufficient personal stature in the BASE world that posting this under your actual login would, in my opinion, be far more effective than creating a "pseudo-anonymous" one to do so. You are my friend. But I have to follow Sangiro's rules, the same as everyone else here. Please read the sticky at the top of this forum. Thanks! -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  22. Please read this announcement from Sangiro: We have recently had multiple posters, who are also well known and experienced BASE jumpers, create additional logins to post semi-anonymous things. While I often sympathize with the intention, and such postings are not against the rules, creating multiple logins is. If you want to post controversial things, funny things, or just silly things, please stick to your one account. I think of you as friends. But the rules here apply equally to all of us. Thanks. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  23. I can't know. The point was that the spin is not being transferred through a spun bridle. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  24. Interesting. That's a very fundamental difference between Christianity and Islam, then. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  25. I have. Maybe this ought to be a poll? Both. But deep is more important. I jumped it a bunch off this bridge by my house. Yep. Twice since then, actually. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
