Perhaps. It depends on their other preparation/skills/experience. In different parts of the world, training standards can vary. There are places where this kind of jump is done very early in a jumpers career. I don't think it's a good idea, but it certainly happens. Also, to call this a "big wall jump" might mislead some people into thinking it's on the same level, safety wise, as the popular wall in Southern Norway (for example). LB exits are significantly more technical, because they are much lower, and sub-terminal (not just terminal) tracking is pretty much mandatory for safety there. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I totally agree. When you're laying in the hospital (or worse), "but Tom/Marta/Robert/etc said it would work" isn't going to help you. Definitely educate yourself from as many sources as possible, then make your own decision. That's the nature of BASE. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Maggot verifiably has a tremendous amount of skydiving experience. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Have you looked at Moe's old rigs? He made a very similar design back in the late 80's. The idea was to make it as low profile as possible to sneak it into high profile jump sites. I think NickDG posted a photo of it in this forum. It looks _very_ similar to yours. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

He took the Apex FJC. Many FJC's in the US (not all of them) don't cover slider up packing because (a) it's fairly simple to learn once you've learned to pack slider down, and (b) there can be a shortage of time (it's simply impossible to cover all important BASE topics in a course that spans a long weekend). -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I've seen test PC's that actually used "F-111" (0-3 cfm) as the vent material. The idea was to give the same flow through properties (with a larger vent) but faster inflation/less hesitation than a higher flow vent. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Is there a tendency for the tail to flutter on the V-1s? I think it's skill dependent. With less skilled flyers (like me) yes. With more skilled flyers, I don't think so. A shorter tail wing may make the higher ends of V-2 performance more accessible than the higher ends of V-1 performance. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

All that info is pretty much on the BASEKjerag web site. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Are you certain of this? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Be sure to check the date on that, too. I've got no idea what recent production Odyssey's like Sams are like. My Odyssey FX had real problems staying closed at high airspeeds. I have no idea about the rig discussed in this thread, or about (much) newer version of the Odyssey FX. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

With that object/gear/altitude/delay I'd use a vented 42. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

What made it nice? Easier to get around in? Less tail wing flutter? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Guys, let's keep this nice. Matt can use all of our help and support as he goes through his recovery. Kidwicked, remember that this is probably Hecker's first experience with a serious recovery. It's going to be a pretty major event in his life, and not just now. A little perspective might be helpful. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

AlexCrowley, please read this announcement regarding multiple accounts. I've banned your LouCypher account from this forum and will ask Sangiro to disable it. I note that you've created a couple other accounts like this, for one-off posting. Please stop. Thanks! -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

What he said. That's exactly how I've always considered delay to be measured. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I'm screening applications now. I will hold at least one spot until the deadline on the 15th, but have already begun sending out some invitations, as well as notifying some folks that I won't be able to take. As of right now, I have 36 applications spread across my living room table. The typical applicant has somewhere between 1000 and 1500 skydives, but I have applications from folks with both many more and many less skydives than that. In a few very exceptional (and impressive, to me) cases, local jumpers actually contacted me in advance of the application screening, recommending an applicant. Where those were jumpers I knew and respected, this counted heavily in favor of the applicant. The applicant pool this time around has been of very high quality. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Got it Friday. Still haven't had a chance to watch it. I'll see if I can do that soon.

Good to hear that you're recovering. Hang in there!

The town I grew up in (on the Central Coast of California) had a hitching post at the high school, because so many kids rode their horses to school. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

One of the guys I jumped with said that he had actually been able to put in an order for a V-2, but without a definite delivery/release date. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

This weekend, while a trio of us were flying V-1's (not, sadly, at the Z-Flock event), I heard that Phoenix Fly has started taking orders for V-2's. Any official word? Anyone at the Z-Flock hear this from the horse's mouth? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
