  1. The word is that Dan made 201 jumps in about 22 hours. Nice job, Dan and crew. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  2. I have 3 Prisms. I think that the Prism 1.5, or JJ Mod (the original Prism with the wider flaps and extra stiffeners) was probably the best BASE rig ever made. It definitely defeated the "sloppy packing at large sizes" problem. Nick, if you guys just resurrected that design and sold it as the Apex SP, I'd buy it, and I bet a lot of other people would, too. For what it's worth, I was not a fan of the Prism 2--I liked the original significantly better. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  3. They've tried, on several occasions, by various methods. Climbers are far more numerous and better organized, and the NPS backed off. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  4. I couldn't find anybody, anywhere, even on the internet, to buy crispis from, or I'd have gotten some. There's one dealer in the US for the paragliding model, and they never called me back. Here you go. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  5. Try Crispis instead. Mine are pretty much just black and grey, and they have better ankle flexibility than the Hanwags. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  6. And if they don't bust the Hanglider for using the reserve... We should start jumping from Hangliders until they just say "OK, fuck it. You can BASE jump." They're more likely to say "all right then, no hang gliding either." I know that USHGA has gone around this issue with the NPS, since the NPS will allow hang gliders but not paragliders, because paragliders might open the door to BASE rigs. I believe that the NPS response to USHGA was along the lines of "stop pushing this issue, or we'll find a way to throw the hang gliders out of the parks, too." -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

    Baseclimb 3

If memory serves it's right around 9k from exit to landing. It's the "highest" (in that sense) that I've heard of, too. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I don't believe they are available any more, so you won't be able to get a new one. The manufacturer is on this forum from time to time, so he's your best point of contact for questions about the rigs. Also, if your profile is correct, you probably ought to consider some more skydiving before you look at purchasing BASE gear. Skydiving is fun and rewarding, and not nearly so likely to maim or kill you as BASE. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  9. I've seen some very good tracking done in scuba fins. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  10. This thread discussed the upcoming price increase on Performance Designs parachutes. It is my understanding that this price increase is being passed on to everyone having gear produced by PD, whether it is PD branded or not, which means that we can expect a price increase in Consolidated Rigging's Ace and Blackjack canopies. I also understand that CR has not yet instituted a price increase, but is likely to do so soon, in response to their increased cost from PD. So, if you were thinking about buying a new CR canopy, definitely think about doing it now--before they announce higher prices. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  11. The Dragon was an early Vertigo canopy (before the Dagger). It had a reputation for not-so-nice pressurization when compared with the Mojo and FOX (the other standard canopies of the day). It's definitely not as nice as the Dagger (which superceded it) or pretty much any other modern BASE canopy. There were some floating around that had been modified with bottom skin inlets. I'm not sure if that is what is meant by "base modified" but it's possible. Do you have a link to the advertisement? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

  13. No, dude. Everyone knows you're evil, so it's ok to call you names. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  14. I like the one signed by Eric Ryde! The autographed version is now framed, and hanging on the wall in my BASEment. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  15. Will the prices (that you charge the designer/marketer) also increase on canopies you manufacture under contract that are not PD branded? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  16. Dude, you need to label those kind of pictures as "Not Safe For Work" or something, so that people don't open them at the office, or when their kids are around, or something like that. Thanks! -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Originally, the Mojo shipped with a really funny warning label that said, down at the bottom "Removing this label will damage your gear". It also had all kinds of other humorous warnings, like the maximum placarded ego allowed on the canopy, and the requirement that you "just read the warning label and figure it out for yourself". I still have an original warning label, and I've seen T-shirts with them. Putting one on the back of an F-111 jacket would be quite amusing. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Would you put on a warning label that reads: "Warning, removing this label will damage your gear" ? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  19. I'm not sure that it's really an apples-to-apples comparison to look at Impact v. PF Tracking Suit. Unfortunately, it's not apples-to-apples to look at Impact v. Prodigy either. What are your criteria for defining something as a "tracking suit" v. a "wingsuit"? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  20. Can you explain how that relates to Yuri's attempt to extrapolate a percentage of BASE number holders v. non number holders? A reasonable counterargument would be "the people who read this web site are a skewed sample", but not simply "only a very small percentage read this web site." It's not terribly relevant what percentage respond to the poll--only whether or not they are representative of the average on the issue of having or not having a number. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  21. It appears to still be functional. What are you seeing? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  22. There is a lot of that going around, whether we talk about it here or not. I know that was pretty much my original motivation. In all honesty, my experience has been that people either get past that point, or they really do go in. It's interesting the number of folks I know who started BASE because they had nothing left to live for, and then found things to live for because they were BASE jumping. One of my friends once described it something like this "psychotherapy is to scalpel as BASE jumping is to hatchet." -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  23. Huge thanks to Tree for the rig. Canopy courtesy Apex BASE. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  24. Apex now makes a toggle stub style (not straight pin) WLO that is effectively a big grab. My pair is blue. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  25. Why not just buy some new ones? They're not that expensive. If you want standard toggles (not big grab) I've got a couple sets of red ones sitting around, and I'll send them to you if you PM me your address. I traded them off my rigs and put (orange) big grabs on. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
