  1. Jonathan Tagle says that when you can do EVERYTHING proficiently on the A-license card for canopy work, then bring it down a size (if you want). Chances are you will be able to come down the first couple sizes fairly quickly, so if you purchase a 235 now, you might be regretting it in a few dozen jumps. It will probably end up saving you money to rent for a little while, see what you're comfortable with, then buy a reasonably sized canopy.
  2. I just read the TSA link above. Has anyone ever had TSA open their reserve to inspect it? The link says they will let you assist and give you space to repack, but I doubt I could get my reserve back together. I'd be carrying an open rig around all day. I've pretty much only heard good things of traveling with a rig, but I just wanted to see if it's happened to anyone since the link makes it seem common.
  3. Make sure that you find out exactly what happened and learn from that accident. You should never make the same mistake as someone else.
  4. Come on out to Lodi, CA for a while. $15 to 13K, $5 hop and pops. If you need to rent gear, all jumps are $35. It's open every day. The bunkhouse is decent at best but it's a cheap place to stay.
  5. later tonight i'm gonna be so deep inside you, the man that pulls me out is gonna become the king of england (heard that from collegehumor, thought it was funny).
  6. I did my tandem there a few months back and didn't have any problems. It's definitely the cheapest place to jump around. Tandems are $100 with pics/video extra. It's a busy place so expect to be in and out pretty quick. I did my AFF course there and it went well. The owner (Bill) has a lot of experience and does parts of the ground school. The only complaint is that the videos and books you use are probably from the 80's. However, the instructors go over everything the videos do and are very friendly. I think the overall feel of the place is friendly. Cool people, great dropzone.
