  1. Dude, taking "My Opinion" to a tyrannical statment like that does not make it any less tyrannical. Guilty by association? Take your life because you hang with bad guys? wtf? I guess I can't flame you because you already posted that you would get flammed? laughable. So long as we are on the Gitmo topic, MY 2 cents is that that camp is more of a display of terrorism that the 9-11 attack was... My opinion. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  2. Here Here! post that sh*t Here! My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  3. I'm so sorry to hear that John. My Golden Died last Canada day. In her last few weeks, she'd go from having real problems to being the most energetic we'd seen her in years! She had tumours in the linning of her stomach that would cause her a great deal of discomfort. Thankfully, we did not have to put her to sleep as she waited for me to get home one day and fell asleep permanantly with her head on my lap. However, I had given it much thought and had she taken a turn for the worse I was ready (gulp) to put her down. The reason I tell you this is that you should know that you did the right thing. There is nothing that makes your best friends suffering okay. Unfortunately, pets cannot speak to us like other people can and often, you just can't help them feel any better. Stretching out their last days, though may make the owner feel a little better, really does them no service is they are suffering. The important thing is that you were there, with him as he went. The other important thing is that you carry with you the wonderful memories that he had provided you. My condolences once again. It will get better with time. 4. Ahhhh, the Land of the Rape and Honey... I would never have guessed Chris. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  5. Well, if you think you are up to it, then you approach it honnestly. Don't got up and start yelling in front of a bunch of peeps that you think she is reckless. Catch her when she is alone and ask "Can I talk to you about something?" Calmly explain what you saw and what you did and what the other said and go from there. If you're not up to it, then simply advise the S&TA or the DZO (something you should do anyway) Experience is great.. but honnestly, don't take that attitude from ANYONE. This is just oppinion now, but I take a lot of advice from a lot of people... I ask for it, I look for it, I sit down and listend when others are getting it. But if this attitude is present, I take it with a HUGE grain of salt. There's no "majic jump number" that makes the stupid smart or the unsafe safe and above all other things, there is always more to learn. I hope all goes well. Blue skies, Safe jumps, Nick My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  6. I'm not superstitious... that's bad luck. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  7. That's just perfect. But don't wait to re-evaluate, have a game-plan in mind from the start. The sooner you are self-insured, the sooner you are no-longer giving away money for nothing. Check out the program: 1) Figure out, on your own, "What is the maximum, reasonable amount I could see on a bill if such an event or worse were to occur to one of my pets." 2) Begin your health insurance policy for them at the some $17/month each. 3) Put away your $30/month (and whatever you can spare) into a "kitty emergency fund" 4) Once you've Saved up the amount determined in step 1, take one of the cats off the insurance. At this time, you will be accustomed to paying the what? $17/month/cat for insurance and $30/month for slush fund?. Keep paying $30 to the emergency fund and start putting the extra $17/month in there too. 5) When you've accumulated enough to cover any emergency for BOTH cats at once, enjoy the $17/month x 2 that you are no longer paying for insurance, and cut down the $30 to say $15 so it continues to grow... Hey, it'll be a hidden savings device. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  8. I'm in Auto/home/casualty insurance and I can tell you the best form of insurance in any field is self-insurance. People just don't have the funds to indemnify themselves in trajic losses like that of a home or a loved one on which they depend on financially. When I look at the average vet bill for my two cats, my dog and my ferret, I definately agree with the Ron. If you've got the discipline to not touch those funds, $20 a month would add up to more than enough in very little time. Don't touch those funds for your regular checkups mind-you, save 'em solely for emergencies. Just my $0.02CND, sorry to hear about your cat. Glad to hear he's gonna be alright. 9. Cars used to be built withouth seatbelts. Can you beleive it? After the advents of seatbelts. You could buy a car with or without them. Can you beleive that? Today, they are mandatory. Can you beleive that? hehe, I'm all for the "Let the people decide for themselves" but if AADs become mandatory for all jumpers, I could bitch about other things. just my 2 cents. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  10. Big Congrats to you!! Feels good donnit? My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  11. I agree with the direction this thread has taken so far. It would be best to leave him in the ground. We say "rest in peace" for a reason. Try and arrange for your mum to visit the actual grave. It will likely move her to see how many of his fellow heroes surround him. (The first thing I thought when I saw the title of this thread was that perhaps all of your deceased family are together at one place of resting) If it is important to her that he have a grave state-side then perhaps it would benefit you all to bury a box of personal artifacts in this location. Each of you chose something and discuss amongst yourselfves why you chose it. Often, this is what family and friends will do when they have lost a loved one and the body cannot be recovered. I would include in it, a picture of his grave in Europe. You can mark it as an official grave. 'Tis but a monument, a place to pay hommage after all. When they put him in the ground, they said "Ashes to ashes. Dust to dust", you are to consider him one with the earth now. Actually transporting his physical body is all but pointless. Just my $0.02CND. I hope for ease on your mother and your family. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  12. This is one case where I have to side with the U.S... much to mine own suprise I might add. landmines with timing devices are relatively safe and "have some continuing utility for our armed forces around the world" I tend to beleive this coming from the states (althought it contradicts the fact that the country has not used them since 1991 personally, I think that's a croc). The thing about land mines is that they don't generally cause a threat to the innocent until the battle is long over and the fields have been left armed and forgotten. I put much faith in the States that when mines are used, it is well-known that they are present. Also, I beleive that when the States pull out of an area, they spend a great deal of time, effort and funds to disarm them. So the issue is really one of the double-standard. 15. Sorry, no appartments that I know of. What will you be up to in T.O. ? I'd ask you out for a beer but I've got to head out to Collingwood right after work tomorow. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  16. Hehe, I beleive it. I don't think it will be long before posting something like what you just did will set off the bells and whistles in some intel office, dispatching a swat-based-anti-terror-team to your doorstep within moments. Glad to see we haven't gotten there yet... and that you are still alive My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  17. Beautiful use of bandwidth Philly... You know, one could consider you post a form of art. Really makes the reader ponder. My first thought was: "How wonderful freedom of speech is. There are places on this green earth were one would already have been carted away and shot in the street for having posted something like this on a public forum." Philly?.... hello? You there? Oh my. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  18. Cool thread... lots o' threads about showing your tat... not enough about 'splaining 'em. I've got a Peace sign on my chest with a Rose whose stem passes through it. The meaning: "Peace and Love" My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  19. I've not seen it yet but am planning to. I would expect it to contain some innacuracies... what historical movie doesn't. I mean, the idea is to entertain first and foremost right? I just knew there would be a thread about this film when I got into work and was looking forward to posting here. When I woke up to the radio this morning, they were discussing it a little and one mentioned that some are complaining that the film is too "Anti-Jew"... I thought to myself... could you even make a Jesus Christ film that was "Pro-Jew" ? Isin't it a given that the Jews would be sorta the bad guys in a film about the man they rejected and scentenced to death? I really wanted to get the oppinion of any Jew that may have seen it already. Anyone? What did you think? I'm planning on checking it out this weekend. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

Ever see the movie Romeo Must Die ? Some very cool use of the ol' Zip Ties in there. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  21. This is incorrect. The only thing different between what I said and your 'correction' was the "Two-way" thing... I did not include (and should have) that Universal protection is also there to prevent YOU from infecting the one you are helping.... but incorrect? Is it? Are the precautions not in place to save you having to decipher the risk yourself? I understand... where did I say that it does? I said nothing about making assumptions. Why? How would I know anyway? all I said was: Is this statement incorrect? You'll note I'm not speaking strickly about HIV... at least I hope. Why should I have to find where something has happened in the past before we all decide to help prevent it happening in the futur? My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  22. And that's a wonderful practice for those who deal with the wounded or perform open surgery on a regular basis. The Universal protection is there to save you from having to decipher the risk yourself. It is there to save you having to ask. It is there because the person you are helping may not be coherrant or even able to answer. It is there because the person you are helping may not even know if they are infected with something contagious. Skydiving is a little different don't you think? Yes, boxers DO have to disclose contagious deseases and Yes, other boxers DO have the right to turn down a fight based on this. That's retarded. Doing a tandem is not performing surgery or tending to an open wound... but the possiblility of there being an injury to both parties and of the blood mixing is there. I'm not a tandem master, I've never been a tandem passenger. But I voted yes. There is a new risk presented to freefall when you are strapped to another person. There is yet another one presented when that person contains blood that could infect you should you be exposed to it. Every single person on each and every load should understand every risk involved with the jump they are about to make. Universal protection is great... but should the one that does not accept the additional risk of contracting something on this jump really be told "Fine, then you shouldn't ever jump with anyone." ? 23. Hehe, these guys should do a showdown with the Extreme-Ironing guys. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  24. I can't beleive the number of people here even supporting the concept of the draft! It's crazy! Likely because many DZ.commers are millitary but still, I would think a bunch of free spirits would be against something so damned autocratic. I agree that all should serve their Country... but fightin' aint the only form of 'sevice' and forcing people to fight is just wrong... that's not IMO, that's fact. I don't think it'll pass either... unless this 'war' escalates much further... WWIII-styles (Nick's prediction btw). I doubt Canada would do anything to help nail draft doggers. And I truly hope we wouldn't, I might add. We live in a true state of democracy over here and were happy to help those that didn't want to fight someones elses battles in the past. Sigh, the more things change, the more they stay the same. Draft. Makes me sick to my stomach. Can't find enough of your people to fight for you?... Perhaps you should reconsider your motives? My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  25. I'm a little worried about your logic my friend. Reasons sex is better??? Not too experienced with women are you? "Remember when sex was safe and skydiving was dangerous?" Well, you've got me there. Skydivers do get a good arm workout however, bending the ol' elbow. I guess that depends on you perfomance eh? "Get your things and get out!!" Often cancelled for a week out of every month. So? "Horny Gorilla" in sex means possible federal offence! Yes but just try and find yourself a 10way.. not nearly as easy as in skydiving. Well now, you can do nekkid jumps... how close you get is up to your skill level though. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
