Coach Jumps Now Required Until 'A' License
jimjumper replied to ridestrong's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I could be wrong, but I haven't seen a comment from anyone on staff at Mile-Hi, (DZO, Instructor, or Coach). I would assume that someone on their staff at least monitors these forums for current information and could at least provide accurate information. Anybody? -
Manley Butler wrote the original book but it is long out of print. You might try sending him an e-mail at www.butlerparachutes.com to see if he can tell you how to get a copy.

Paralized friend, jump possible?
jimjumper replied to LongWayToFall's topic in Skydivers with Disabilities
Jim Wallace at jimwallaceskydiving.com has taken multiple disabled students including one quadraplegic on an oxygen tank. He also took one of my groomsmen just prior to my wedding. The best at taking the disabled! His school is at Perris as as a seperate school. -
I was 36 and my wife was 40 when we got married and one of the attractions for both of us was neither of us wanted kids. We laugh when people ask about it and just say "We were both born without the baby wanting gene!" Still kidless 15 years later.

Extreme loyalty to home DZ?
jimjumper replied to hokierower's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I work at one dz but fun jump at another. It helps prevent priority conflicts. I've also probably changed home dz's 10-15 times due to relocations or dz closures. Every dz has a different "vibe" and style. Some are hardcore learning dz's (I.E. Freeflying, RW, Wingsuiting, etc.) while some are "So, what do you wanna do?" Some are fun, but I've also sat for hours waiting to get on airplane because tandems had priority. Go to the dropzone and see how they treat you. If your not happy vote with your feet! -
I've only been jumping Strong rigs for 14 years without any injuries so I may be a little new at this but I like the system and will see how the compnay integrates anything new to the equipment before I comment.

VETS - Veterans Engaged in Team Skydiving
jimjumper replied to gemini's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm in! -
When I was young, (long time ago), me and a friend camped out next to a large pond on his parents property. It was at the base of 3 hills so everything was backstopped. We walked our way around the pond shooting at snakes and turtles that had taken over the pond. When we got back to our camp, we realized that due to the bullets skipping off the water we had shot a number of rounds thru our tents! We were lucky that we didn't hit the tractor we had used as transportation to our camping spot.

Just talk to Dan at manifest. He'll point you in the right direction!

I learn things all the time from DZ.COM. Granted, I have opinions of my own, but when I read about different techniques, styles, and things that are new, I evaluate the information for something useful. This forum provides access to opinions and styles that may not be mainstream but may be the next hot thing in the skydiving.

I saw a member of my coin club at a coin show a couple of weeks ago, looking through old currency notes. He showed me a 1942 Phillipines note and asked for my opinion on condition. When I expressed interest that he might have been a WWII veteran based on the note he was examining, He said "No, But my son was!" He is 93 and still vollunteers as a Docent at our local Paleontology Museum.

My wife and myself train service dogs to work with the handicapped and people ask me "What can they do?". What a great video of what some dog's are capable of!

$300 got me a 27' Russian PC, and a 24' flat with a 4-line release, plus military container. The owner would sell it to us fat guys when the T-10's we used as students landed a little too hard. Then, once we had our fifty jumps, he would buy it back in trade for $200 when we bought a square from him. I'll bet he sold it 10-15 times before someone finally kept it.

I made 3 jumps out of the Helicopter during the convention. They are some of the most thrilling jumps/altitude rides I have ever experienced! Of course, someone had to screw-up a thing that good. Jumpers are usually their own worst enemies.

I had over 800 on my Cruislite Xl (F-111) with no malfunctions or repairs. i stopped jumping it when I got a free replacement canopy but I still have it just for nostalgia.

I work as an instructor at one dropzone but fun jump at another. The two are totally seperate. I don't want to be asked while fun jumping to fill in for instructor duties and when I'm doing working jumps I need to be professional and I try to not say or do things that would be construed as not. I like both dz"s and jump at both but for different reasons. I would never bad-mouth either one or recruit for the other.

Nonsense! I have had problems getting even a Class 3 because I only have 20/40 vision in one eye even after corrective surgery. I still have managed to do over 2000 tandems over 15 years without any injuries. Again the issue is whether or not a medical exam will prevent any type of hazards to paying students.
-
Everybody! There is no one who has experienced every type of malfunction, aircraft emergency, canopy landing problem, or experienced all aircraft diffences. Always learn from the people around you and use common sense to keep safe!

The pug dorito's commercial was good. They had an on-line vote as to the dog breed to be used and the pug won! And yes I voted since I have 2 pugs!

It's not the health check, it's the widely varying requirements of the medical examiners. Some doctors have the requirement of "breathing-not blind" here you go, while some are of the opinion "Are you ready to run a marathon and do you have perfect 20/20 eyesight" opinion. I know of an ATP rated pilot with one eye! When I asked about it at my last physical I was told that as long as it was noted on his medical card it was up to the pilot examiner to determine whether or not his flight performance was up to standards. Since Tandem-I's are only given performance reviews in the real world physical's are a waste of time and money.

It's been a few years since I went to RI's rigging course, but Sandy used to have an example board he had put together of a lot of early realeses for his rigging students. Try an e-mail to him and he might be willing to take a few pictures.

i have around 2000 tandems with 4-5 pukers. About 3 years ago we started using Sea-Bands. They are a small elastic band with a hard dot that is centered on the wrist. Supposedly they press on an accupressure point that helps prevent nausea. A lot of the cruise lines and fishing boats use them. They have dramaticaly reduced the number of pukers. I don't know if it's a mental or physical thing but they really seem to work!

How long before I need to repack my main?
jimjumper replied to MorfiusX's topic in Safety and Training
I had a friend of mine that was severely injured in a plane crash and his main (F-111) had been packed for over 2 years. He jumped it and said that it opened a little slow! -
The old AND bold skydiver list
jimjumper replied to cocheese's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Jim Wallace. Over sixty, making over a thousand jumps a year (Military Training jumps, AFF, Tandems, and demo's). -
When I went through Boot Camp, there was guy that would roll out the tobacco in his cigarettes and refill the paper tubes with toothpase and let them dry for smoking. Said it gave him a great buzz!
