That's about the ratio I've been experiencing as well. Unfortunately though, it took me up to almost 12 years in my 1st (and not so good) relationship to get there (my 1st chop) to finally be where I want to be now ---AND HAPPY! Also been almost 3 full years now since then too. Guess at this pace it's gonna be 8-9 more before I find whether or not this one's gonna "pass the test". -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone

We're gonna have to start a forum/board of your very own then pretty soon! Women Only, R/W's, Base ...Now +300'rs! YIKES! coitus non circum - Moab Stone

SBA (and similar) affiliations offer certain access to group rate/policy (and other ancillary "collective" type) benefits. Perhaps you should also consider those? ...That being said, I'll go to PM with you for an INDIVIDUAL suggestion. Blue Skies, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone

This is most likely because you are (were) a member of a (usually employment based) group. Inclusions/exclusions are thereby generally negotiated by that group (your employer). I know for a FACT that both of these companies can, and in many instances DO have exclusions for "high-risk sports/activities" (not just skydiving) for those seeking INDIVIDUAL policies. My 1st response would actually be another question: Are you seeking this policy as an INDIVIDUAL, or through a GROUP or some other collective-based (credit union memberships sometimes are really good avenues) means? I may be able to refer you to an agent once I know the answer to this from my company (I work for an insurance company indirectly); but there is a big difference between the 2, and therefore the appropriate contact could be very different depending which type of policy you are seeking. No. ...You either have to get that (good, qualified FEEDBACK ---we can't SEE you!) from your DZ/instructors, or if for some reason you can't (you're saying apparently they're not effectively instructing you?) find ANOTHER DZ/instructors who CAN/will!! Seriously. -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone

Hard cutaways; their causes and prevention
Scrumpot replied to Hooknswoop's topic in Gear and Rigging
"DuraLube" makes a 100% silicone spray lubricant that has worked well, with pretty much the same basic attributes (non-dirt attracting DRY, yet "slick" film which does NOT seem to "build up") as I'm seeing be reported with the Ace brand. FWIW. coitus non circum - Moab Stone -

I vociferously beg to differ! Who's the "lightweight" here? Winter, ..."Door"!! ...Ice chrystals immediately begin pelting your face. It's clear, crisp, probably sub-zero at alt. Sorry baby, but I'm still out there jumping! Some of the best scenery and jumps of the year I've had during the winter. Who's the lightweight here? Hmmmm..... Oops, there you go. Guess we got our answer here. Well thanks for your input there, ...SHORTY! P.S. ...Greenies ...just in case ...only in "fun". No real personal attack here. LOL, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone

Ahem, ...Bill, BZZZZT!!! ...Busted here! You know very well that this deploying jumper did NOT get "pulled UP" anywhere!! What type of fable are you trying to further propagate here? Next thing, you'll be telling us that this was necessary because he entered a cloud, and lost his breath (through his skin of course) as a result! Sorry, but I just could not resist this one. coitus non circum - Moab Stone

I hook/panic turned myself in, way back on jump # 87 to the result of 5 compressed vertabrae and a 6 month stint away from actively jumping. I can tell you my skills sucked just as bad when I returned, as they were previous to that when I was "active" It didn't matter either way. It's what you've learned from it, and how you go on (move forward) that counts. Just take it slow & don't push yourself into "trying" before your healing & body is fully ready. Lesson learned: There are plenty of jumps to be had tomorrow, as long as you can maintain the discipline to not screw yourself up (unneccesarily) today! Ahem.... excuse me here, but this was precisely my "story" as well. Think about that. The result (not hook turning, or "cross-winding" notwithstanding ---why do you think just that gets you off the hook here?) indicates that you were beyond your ability level on this particular day. "Luck"?? (Dumb or otherwise) ...??? ...You really don't want to go there. (Hope Ron is not looking ) Please, do yourself a favor, the best advice I can give you to be better prepared for your return: LEARN FROM THIS MISTAKE!! Freefall skills can be re-learned (or as in my case, "luckily" for me since -UNlearned ) quickly enough once you come back. Learn instead perhaps how & when to keep yourself on the ground, and out of the potential situation itself in the 1st place when more appropriate. My best wishes to you for a full, and speedy recovery! Blue Skies, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone

Would you let a non jumper pack your reserve??
Scrumpot replied to callmewhuffo's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
For the record, I am one of the 47 (so far) who have replied in the "no way" category. But that, is due to my own very personal and DIRECT experience with just such a described (non-jumping ---or more precisely capably jumping) rigger. From that experience on, it is just my own personal choice that any rigger I EMPLOY (and yes it is employ) will be: 1. Someone that I know (and feel some sort of sense of respect for) and... 2. Currently and actively jumps, the current gear (or category of gear) that he/she is servicing. I found this thread & it's premise, before the "calling of people out" due to their opinions, otherwise to be quite intriguing! My .02 Blue Skies, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone -
Glad we're here to talk about this WITH YOU Ron, with you ALIVE, rather than the other possibilities ...And in the incidents forum otherwise! Man, wouldn't SOME people have had a field day with THAT!! You going in, without a Cypres on & everything!! It takes CHARACTER and FORTITUDE to share your mistakes with others. An example that should not be overlooked by just those very same alluded to above IMHO. Hope you've also got your asbestos keyboard station suit on though! Would you let a non jumper pack your reserve??

Would you let a non jumper pack your reserve??
Scrumpot replied to callmewhuffo's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Because the implication, as it was posted would be disparaging to their reputation(s). If it were stated more like: "I know several riggers who have never stepped foot out of an a/c." then in of itself, that would be fine. However, Sparky's statement was: Therefore, IMHO the further public posting of their names would serve no USEFUL purpose to this discussion. The 1st premise (just being a "whuffo" rigger) can easily be taken as just mere fact, with no negative aspersions cast or applicable; However the 2nd statement, which is no more than 2nd hand OPINION of a specific riggers knowledge is just that (all due respect Michael, but...) just that: OPINION. And what purpose does that serve? I have opinions about the skill & knowledge level(s) of several riggers too. ...Should this thread degenerate into a list of riggers who some jumpers think are good vs. those they think are not? What is your intent in pursuing this line? Mr. Owens, sir... I'm surprised you would have even bothered posting/replying to this derailed thread-line. Don't tell me the weather's getting crappy out there, just before I'm scheduled to come on out & play, and you're now getting bored or something! coitus non circum - Moab Stone -
Of course it can! It's quite possible, physically. With no gloves (or very poor ones) very quickly at sub-zero (farenheit) temps from exit during f/f to pull time your hands can chill to the point of you being unable to close a grip. I've jumped with someone who went straight to his reserve once, for just this very reason. Next question?... coitus non circum - Moab Stone

Was the guy filming a freeflier & some narrative about one of his first few camera jumps filming this way? Lost track of alt, and ended up with a dual deployment as he pitched low simultaneous with Cypres fire? ...Chopped pretty much right away but main nearly instantly entangled?? I don't watch real TV ...PERIOD. But this sounds very much like one that I am in That tape has sure made it's rounds... "Real TV" now, eh? When the camera man is jumping up and down going Un-BLEEP'ing believable, (etc.) and all his buddies suddenly come screaming up ...Does he begin to yell shit like "get the fuck away from me"? coitus non circum - Moab Stone

Do you roll it "against your body" from chin down to knees? ...That's the only way I can picture this. Wouldn't the lines which are already inside the canopy cocoon be more prone to "slacking" that way? I am interested in this, after having precisely this problem with "traditional" psychopacking. I used to do it with a former canopy, and ended up needing to get a few patches for line burns as a result. I really loved the openings, but have since stopped doing it. Keeping the proper tension from the cascades consistently on up within the canopy to the connection points, while rolling (so that no bottom skin canopy material gets pinched between upon line stretch, etc.), seems to be the critical piece of all this, to me. ---Thanks for any further advice/consideration! -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone

Oh, same here... ...and I wasn't posting that I was (or am) upset. Didn't at the time either. I agree completely. Hey, if you aren't willing to accept the rules (and therefore potential ramifications) of the forums (at you greenies full and sole discretion), don't post in the 1st place, right? No one says you HAVE TO -absolutely. I just put that out there as just an "FYI" is all. I do think that it is important to note that post DELETIONS are NOT always resultant of just something entirely inappropriate or inflamatory. Sometimes it really can be just a discretionary thing, as seen as being best at the time, and at the sole reasoning (again discretion) of the moderator too! Long since accepted & moved-on over! coitus non circum - Moab Stone

Just because I called you old once, that's all. Glad YOU'RE not a greenie! ...I'd of been toast, a long time ago!! Hey, BTW ...Looks like I'm headin' west October 17-22. Will be primarily in the SD area. ...You gonna make good on your "threat" and maybe jump w/me while there?? Let's take it to the skies. ...That's what I say! Let me know if you think you are able & we can maybe take it to PM. Blue skies my OLD bud, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone

Interesting co-incidence that I JUST received a notification that somebody had replied to one of my posts in another thread, yet when I go to click the link to lead me to it I get: "ERROR ...THE POST YOU ARE TRYING TO ACCESS DOES NOT EXIST" ...YOU DO NOT HAVE AUTHORIZATION (or something like that) Greenies sure are hard at work here lately! coitus non circum - Moab Stone
