Psycho packers: How to control the slider?
Scrumpot replied to grue's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The bridal and d-bag itself is a single component (unit) via being sewed, part-n-parcel to the inside of the bag, rather being either a "spacer-ring" or 2-grommet system. I suppose it is POSSIBLE still to "convert it" to a ringed system via an extension with a ring affixed on one side (like is atop of the canopy) and open reinforced bridal loop on the other (to attach to the canopy as the current bridal and bag are now), but that is not a "typical" modification, and would require more custom work than is standard, or I care to do for just this is all. Sorry if I came off sarcastic in my above reply too, BTW. - My bad! Blues, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone -
Psycho packers: How to control the slider?
Scrumpot replied to grue's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Thanks for the "advice" but, what part of already in my original post: Did you apparently not understand? Trust me my "young" friend, all equipment is not the same, and I DO know the difference. So Beezy, if you get back on/when you get the chance... any concerns over pulling instead some of the topskin as a result, also out to the side in doing this at its attachment point, if I decide I would like to go back to using this packing method with my current and unaltered/un-alter-able (without a complete d-bag and bridal system change) set up? Thanks in advance. Blues, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone -

Psycho packers: How to control the slider?
Scrumpot replied to grue's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The length of bridal between the top attachment point ring on my canopy and the bag is relatively short, especially with main PC cocked. I used to "Psycho pack" previous canopies and bridal/bag set ups prior to this with great success and pleasure, but have hesitated, because it does not seem as though I can properly (and fully) "re-center" the bag over the top of the rolled (or "folded"), ready-to-bag canopy any more. It seems to pull top-skin out to whatever side of the pack-job the bridal is laying. ...Is this a concern that makes my set up inelligible for this packing method, Beezy? I sure would be more than happy to go back to packing this way, but have hesitated because the (inside the bag portion) of the bridal appears in my case, to be too "short" to me. Is my hesitation/concern with that (causing potential off-heading deployments, or canopy material burns) reasonable? An "extension" is not an option due to my current bag/bridal manufacture combination. Maybe the pack job is also not necessarily just fine for "everybody"? It teaches the neophyte tracker doing this in either 2-way, or "coached" dives more easily, the proper over-all body position to start with. Tucking the chin, and trying to peer back between your toes promotes naturally, and intuitively, the de-arch at the hips needed to perform a proficient FLAT TRACK. I will still look back between my legs upon break off, to see where EVERYBODY is going (that's generally because I am already way out ahead of them anyway to begin with ). I do not "fixate" on it though, and ALSO will look left, right and in front of me (then again above and below prior to deployment) as well. Sounds like an appropriate skills camp teaching technique to me. Blue Skies, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone

Nice sales pitch, Winsor! They're really paying you this year, aren't they? Only kidding. And anyone that knows Winsor would know better too. (before the flames got too high ) Very well put out there, perspective. Blue Skies, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone

If they are packing the rigs they just jumped then who's to say they are going to necessarily be the same one's to jump it on the next jump it is used?? Just an observation/question based on one of your earlier statements you seem to be continuing with here. -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone

Exactly what I was thinking, and precisely why I was asking, Bill. I was noticing though too, that the original poster is a 13 jump TOTAL student, and many of the replies are also from (relatively) equally low time canopy pilots. Having the wherewithall to adequately perform that for them, I would think would probably be a lot to ask though (and reasonably expect), don't you? Maybe though with F-111 it could be "gotten away" with, but I would be concerned in just recommending doing this, without further qualification to it, that it would instead potentially result the 1st time they really needed it and tried it, in them potentially popping up, THEN STALLING, then being dumped (potentially HARD) on their arses, which could make matters worse. Would you agree? How many under 20, 50, or even 100 jump jumpers do you know that really know and are capable of recognizing that they have already "wrung every bit of lift" out of their canopies (and at what given point) that they can? Absolutely that is the prerequisite to that final and dramatic stroke of "burying your toggles" under the scenario given too. I just think that recommendation probably needed to be better clarified for the audience, before just blanketly "recommended", and qualified too, to the type of canopy being flown - which I don't think we know, and should not just assume either as being the same in ALL cases, and being applied the same either to just "all audiences". Thanks for helping to clarify that, even for me then too Bill! Blues, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone

wings container for a 170, now with a 190...any problem?
Scrumpot replied to artistcalledian's topic in Safety and Training
Aren't containers generally built and "sized" around their reserves? Maybe things have changed some since I've ordered/purchased NEW gear (before many of you have even started jumping it seems ). That said, even if so, when you order a rig, it usually comes with a recommended main size (and different for F-111 or ZP) RANGE, that it should accept. If the rig were on the smaller side of that range (and the 170 was initially the MAX size that would fit in there) you might have a concern. If it was in the middle or the other-way around, I would think he would be okay. What is it that made your decision to "upsize" artist? As someone else also "points out" in here, I'm surprised you did not consider your reserve relative to whatever that thought process, need/requirement, or decision factor was too. If it is wing loading/safety considerations, why would you be any more comfortable on a smaller reserve (and "last chance") than your main? Just something else to think about/consider is all. Are you actually recommending a dynamic STALL on a downwind landing, Bill? coitus non circum - Moab Stone

Gearing up before getting in (was: Tandem Fatality)
Scrumpot replied to goofyjumper's topic in Safety and Training
Actually Mark, in all the "din" since posting on this & Kristi's reply to my post, no it hadn't! ...Good catch, and good advice! Same as how loose some chest straps can "appear" if the jumper is sitting on the floor leaning back and pushing their rig significantly up their back. If the strap has been properly routed around the tensioner and the end secured in the first place, it should stay relatively where you had set it. I will always say something to somebody I see with a routing "issue" to their chest strap (and in 11yrs now I have actually seen -unfortunately- several), but I will never say anything to anyone about "tightness". As that to me, is a personal preference thing. ...How many times have you seen a low time jumper comment on "wow that chest strap sure seems to be awfully loose" when one is positioned as I have described above? Just yet another "angle" (for some of you out there) to think about. Blue Skies, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone -

Opinions wanted about a 2-step RSL procedure
Scrumpot replied to borg2050's topic in Safety and Training
I'm not so sure, but again my recollection might be "fuzzy" If you have the time/ability to do the search and find the post I am looking for, then please feel free! Have at it and put a link to it here. Maybe later when I'm at home I can actually do it too. Just seems to me (again just simply as I recall) that there were at least a few that did say specifically, incident CAUSED by the RSL. But you may be right. I may be wrong. -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone -
Opinions wanted about a 2-step RSL procedure
Scrumpot replied to borg2050's topic in Safety and Training
There are several, as this has been discussed and in fact "researched" before. I am too lazy to do a search, but I know that "Ron" has actually done at least one post (about 1, maybe 2 yrs ago now) IIRC, that listed several that indeed did conclude and say (nearly exactly) that. ...FWIW. coitus non circum - Moab Stone -
Now get out there and TRAVEL and see how it is done also at different DZ's around the country (and heck if you can - the WORLD). Just like anything else in life, you'll see that some are good, some are bad, and some... well, they're just plain UGLY! But variety being the "spice of life", with your new-found "A" in-hand why not begin to sample some of that? Good luck in your endeavors, and continue to keep us "posted up", okay? Blues, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone

Congratulations! And as far as the L/O goes, it depends on the DZ and their particular set up/situation. That said, if you got particularly good service you felt from your L/O, as in any other service matter, I'm sure a tip (cash or lift ticket) being offered would almost always be appropriate. If not necessary, they will have no problem in telling you that. Blues skies and CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN! -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone

This past weekend actually, was the (2nd?) annual "Keys Boogie", with many jumpers from the NE flocking down to attend. It is held actually at Marathon Key, and IIRC minimum jump # / License to attend that is more like 100 (again ---??) with a B license. I think this is what the original poster is looking for (for pictures from). Blues, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone

Expired Cypres being sold on Ebay
Scrumpot replied to Gravitymaster's topic in General Skydiving Discussions

Expired Cypres being sold on Ebay
Scrumpot replied to Gravitymaster's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hopefully even a lot more than just that! 999 out of 1,000? 9,999 out of 10,000? Should be all 10, 1,000 or 10,000 actually. Real scenario: This arguably deceitful dickhead sells his expired Cypres to an unsuspecting buyer (the lady looking for her hubby's Christmas present for instance). That buyer (or gift recipient) then goes to have it installed in his rig by his rigger during his (her) next reserve repack. ...Damn straight they better find out right then & there that Cypres is EXPIRED & NOT AIRWORTHY! ANY rigger that would just install it otherwise in someone elses gear is not worthy to retain his ticket. If the buyer did not know what they were buying at time of purchase, they certainly should for sure now, at least at this point! Should be anyway. coitus non circum - Moab Stone -
THANK YOU KATHLEEN! ...And yes, I had already seen your other "eventful jump" post too. Although I have made many a jump over time out of a C-182, the preponderance of my jumps are out of larger turbine (yeah, I know -spoiled baby ) A/C. Also seems as if you have already been getting some good feedback there from actual active and "regular" Cessna jumpers and instructors anyway. So I'm afraid I would probably have nothing more constructive to add there. ...Other than I can tell you my general impression is "GOOD JOB"! Seems to me from my perspective that you are a thorough, and appropriately inquisitive SKYDIVER with a good head on her shoulders, who approaches what she is doing with great forethought and respect. On top of truly enjoying the most personally rewarding and EXHILERATING sport available (IMHO), that is just GREAT! I look forward to hearing more of your adventures, and following your progression as you (hopefully) continue accordingly. Thank you so much for your willingness to share as well!

You need to check out skydivingmovies.com then! Lot's of chop (and other skydiving related) videos there. Some of 'em not all quite so "smooth" either. If you've gone this long without seeing a one, and take value in it as you say ...I'd check it out! Blues, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone

difference between HP canopies and everything else
Scrumpot replied to Jackpunx's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The intended point of "that other thread", really, was to, (I think) basically RIDICULE the jumper for not realizing he had THE WRONG RIG in the 1st place. This thread took that one just a little bit further, and asked for instead an exploration of the "what if" scenario debate. Inviting a more specific, and perhaps little deeper consideration. Thus, 2 very different strings of "conversation". coitus non circum - Moab Stone -
What did you mean to do then? ...Seriously. It is always of interest to me to learn what may have been in the student mind at the time they "do something they did not mean to do", so that I can consider the perspective and be better equipped to (hopefully) UNDERSTAND and then be prepared to more effectively teach, so that does not just routinely otherwise happen. I won't "flame" you, I promise. Have you already elsewhere posted anything up on this and it has been discussed? If so, I would sincerely appreciate you pointing me there. Or if not, and you would be willing to discuss this particular statement with me, again I would really appreciate it! What were your circumstances and "on the spot" thought process that made you do a "hook turn" that, "you did not mean to do"? If you prefer to answer in PM, that would be fine with me too, but thank you for even considering possibly publically discussing this, if you would. Blue Skies, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
