  1. So, apparently - you did not tell them (and maybe you do not accept/appreciate/acknowledge for yourself) that MOST serious injuries and deaths in this sport no longer take place as the result of an equipment malfunction in ANY way really at all - and that rather, they occur today in the greatest #'s and heavily weighted preponderance only even AFTER a perfectly good parachute has been deployed, is fully opened, and is flying above your head? Think about that. Appreciate it. Understand it (even for yourself) and prepare yourself in THAT (and those) regard(s) as well, accordingly. Trying to portray skydiving as "safe" is a fallacy, and does both the Whuffo - but more importantly, potentially even yourself (ourselves rather- not intended just strictly and personally at/to you almeister) here, a grave disservice. Just FWIW to add/consider within the overall discussion as well. coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  2. Boogies, rather than "expo's" usually have gear-sales reps and gear, both demo and for sale, on-hand available on-site. For instance John - Art Sherry of the Skydive Store (PA), will be at the combined West Point/Delmarva Halloween boogie 10/28-10/30. Knowing this, if you contact him in advance he will actually bring items with him you express an interest in so you can demo them, then - if appropriate and agreed, "cash-n-carry" from the event. Other larger dropzones with full-time, on-site gear-stores can/will do the same. Perris Valley for instance, with Square-One. Cross-Keys, Eloy, Elsinore, Deland etc. all have "full service" gear stores on-site, so planning a trip accordingly, if this is the way you would like to proceed, can accomodate the dual-purpose of traveling to one of them, jumping the location, demo'ing gear you are shopping for, and then - potentially purchasing on-the-spot if you so choose as well. coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  3. The most common error I see students making when they are entering, or unable to effectively correct going into a spin is - that they fail to LOOK IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION of the spin (both when it just 1st begins, and/or if it continues). It is also the most often "missed" I've noticed, observation in any of my supervised coaching jumps debriefs (when a coach comes to me and says he/she cannot see/figure out why their novice is turning). The student may even feel as if he is trying to counter the turn as he/she has been taught, but... if they continue to look instead in the direction of their turn, and not AWAY/OPPOSITE of it as/when they try to correct, they often fail - and it goes from there. It is amazing how many times just a simple plant that discipline in their brain (to LOOK, turn/correct) nearly instantly (on the next jump) seems to "fix" them. Sometimes the "obvious" (like as humans and human nature until we develop the skills to over-come them via practice/training - like what MAY be happening in this case: "we tend to go where we look") when we do this so often - just tends to escape us. Back to heading control basics is probably best here: Heading, arch, legs, relax. LOOK X... turn X. Re-emphasizing the LOOK (1st) as the primary (both corrective and when intended/purposeful) response, I think might help. coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  4. Need a 104 at closer to 2.0 versus (or over) a 119 at 1.78? ...For what, exactly? What is it, that you are (apparently) trying to accomplish, on/with your canopy progression/selection here, that you THINK you will - with a 104 loaded at 2.0; that supposedly you cannot already, with your (current?) canopy at 350+/- TOTAL jumps - the 119 at 1.78? coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  5. If because of your harder-than normal PC extraction from the pouch, you did not get the PC fully extended out into clean air, and instead it dropped back into your burble - it is possible for the PC to get wrapped back through (or "1/2-hitched", it is a type of tension knot) a loop of bridal, and partially (or even completely) choked-off by the bridal wrapping around it. Picture your bridal all coming out and snaking around in the burble, because you did not extend it/stretch it with your extraction/throw, then, the PC getting into one of the loops and it all self-tightening around each other, just as the pin is pulled and the bag begins to extract ...but now you no longer have enough drag being supplied by the choked-off PC, to pull the bag free of your burble, to line stretch. Just enough drag/tension to keep the 1/2-hitch in place, and the PC choked off. - Until you chopped, and it cleared only once that tension was relieved. Just one possibility. You also state: Which indicates you are still doing something different than they are, and/or is being missed. Could be something as seemingly "simple" as how you are handling your excess bridal stowing, during the folding/packing of your PC. Here's the thing though... Again: None of us can (effectively) tell you / guess-diagnose this via the internet. That's why taking each and every phase of packing with you, and observing 1st-hand - then discussing and ASSURING you understand exactly what you are looking at and doing, during each of those phases - and thereby determining - to your full recognition/understanding - is still, really going to be the only way to get you to your most accurate answer. You asked for ideas. I've really only just supplied you with one possible one. FWIW. I hope it helps! coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  6. Couple of possibilities, but one I've seen before (from the perspective of an AFFI who had to hand-launch the resultant "dancing bag" ) is the PC becoming "1/2-hitched" by the bridal, during a "weak throw" - which, if as you are reporting, you had a somewhat "harder pull" than usual, perhaps you did not get the PC fully and cleanly launched beyond bridal extension, contributing to this possibility? No disrespect - You've now had 2 malfunctions/cut-aways in just 200 jumps attributable to your own packing/pack-jobs. The 1st one was a step-through, that you packed/closed without recognizing, now this. I would highly suggest a thorough review of your packing with someone very experienced and knowledgable, 1-on-1, first hand (and not trying to figure this out on the interwebs) - repeating your packing class(es) if previously taken, AND having someone actually supervise your following, subsequent at least 5-10 next pack-jobs from start to finish, until you both feel confident you've got it down, and thoroughly understand what you are doing (at each step) and why. coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  7. See post/reply to you #3 in this thread. What NovaTTT said to you. Including reiteration of the last comment. You can choose to "get it", or choose to be defiant, abrasive (as for some strange reason you seem to want to be) & resist getting it. The choice it up to you. These peeps have (all so far) provided you pretty concise answers/responses. The proper reply to them (if you wish to continue getting further replies/insights) - you might just want to consider - just may be "THANK YOU". FWIW. coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  8. Right. "EARLIEST" effective date, and "LATEST" effective date(s). Precisely consistent with what Rodger just posted as being 6 mos PLUS or MINUS its actual anniversary date of March 2011. It is appropriate to get it's 1st 4 year due service done, and thereby "re-set its airworthiness date" as early as 9/2010. It goes (went) out of date, effective 9/2011. You both are saying the exact same thing(s). FWIW. coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  9. Unfortunately, been seen before. Nothing "new" here. See: The Story of Dudi ...and: HIS OWN WORDS TOO They ALL think they are above it all somehow, or have "mad-skillz" that no one else before them has ever had, or appreciates, or has the capabilities to recognize. Heal quickly, well and fully Dudi... ummmm, errrrr... I mean, Sangi. coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  10. Git-'im, Mike! (MJOSparky Mike, that is) Motomike - youz gots some learnin' here now to do. Hopefully, you will zip the "lips" (typing fingers) long enough and allow your "ears" (eyes) to do that job (the ONLY way to ever LEARN) for you. coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  11. Gregor - I sent you a few link references not too terribly long ago in fact, I discovered created by skyride for peeps who would do a search on google, even being specific (as whuffo's can possibly be) looking for DELAWARE skydiving, and/or even LAUREL, DE skydiving (as you know - where your very home dz - DELMARVA is located) - and found that they would be referred, instead of to YOU (a dropzone that actually currently even "accepts skyride" GC's - right?) - They would be sent to either Ridgely (another "local" competing DZ) ...or worse yet to their OWN DZ, in "Philadelphia". Did you ever get a chance to review that, or share that with the management there too, at Delmarva perchance? coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  12. Check the DBCooper thread in history & trivia. Probably what he is referring to. Edit to add: Or... you could always also do a search / lookup for "Mayfield" or Ted Mayfield - in case THAT can of worms is what is being referred to. Quite a lot of "interesting" stuff, if you are so inclined, actually under either. coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  13. Not sure of the Dropzone, based on the pics. However a quick search of the jumpplane's registration seen in several of them in the background indicate the same registered owner of that A/C since Feb 1985. So if the pics are any time after 14 Feb, 1985 - we can direct you at least to the plane's owner, who might be able to provide further information. PM me if so, and you think that info in of itself might be of any help. coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  14. Agreed on your 1st sentence, but on the second one actually, I would not say that I was missing it. More so that still Andy, by definition - I'm afraid I do disagree with you. Not your thought process, but in with your answer, where/how you have applied your terminology. Okay then, though - so that we are not "arguing", I guess that you could still say that between us, I did earlier "miss" it. But I just wouldn't have even considered it. At least as being called a "canopy transfer" in those scenarios anyway. Feel free to correct me if you still feel my thinking with this is incorrect, but - in order to have a "canopy transfer", there (in my mind anyway) must 1st be at least a canopy there to transfer! In either of those examples, there isn't one there, to transfer - so that is where you lost me. Once I typed my last response too however, I thought rather that you might instead come out with an example or supposition of say a swooper who right in the midst of executing his dive from 800 feet suddenly became whipped into into fast line-twists. In which case there - I could still possibly see it (a canopy transfer procedure applied) there too. So we don't disagree - that a canopy transfer EP could be conceivably used in a high-speed situation. Remember though, the OP's scenario and premise was set up as: So again, I just got lost and did not understand your response of: And did not think it was applicable, as again - to me "terminal" implies nothing out. That's where I got lost and "missed" your meaning. Thanks for taking the time to further clarify. Blue Skies, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  15. We must be misconstruing terms here between us, Andy - or again, I just plain simply misunderstood. To me, "terminal" = in freefall; i.e. ]nothing out. Your reply was: Which seems to me, to be an oxymoron. Mutually exclusive. I guess my question, more appropriately phrased then, would be (and maybe what I can't quite conceptualize in relation to your answer to the OP) is: How do you get to "terminal" with your main already out? Your main being out is the 1st most critical pre-requisite to being able to execute a canopy transfer in the 1st place, right? So, this is where you have lost me. This is what I am now looking for clarification from you on. That (the quote) was your answer. I clearly don't understand it. So, before we move on to even further considerations (and definition interpretations) of "high-speed" versus "low-speed" - can you please further define then what your concept, or definition of "terminal" is maybe? Perhaps you did not mean to use the term "terminal"? Or maybe I am somehow misconstruing your intended meaning of it, and my definition of the term rather just (apparently has to) differs from yours. I have no specific opposition to an experienced jumper executing a canopy transfer in say for instance - what could be termed a high-speed malfunction at 800ft AGL (example: your main gets suddenly torn literally in 1/2 by a swooper colliding completely through it from above) - in fact, in that instance I would probably recommend it! How can a person be possibly at "terminal" though, at 800ft (the OP's premise/scenario) with their main already out? To me, "terminal" implies freefall - which then actually precludes a canopy transfer possibility in it's entirety - by definition. So one last time, what am I missing here? coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  16. Yes - and by definition, they are not done at terminal velocity, Andy. Please - tell me what I am missing here? I am not being coy - maybe I'm dense (wouldn't be the 1st time), I'd legitimately like to know how you would do a canopy transfer (or would even want to try) at terminal velocity? What am I missing here? coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  17. ??? - Lost me here. How do you find yourself falling terminal at 800ft, then execute a transfer? - ??? coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  18. So glad that you've so obviously, and so thoroughly got absolutely everything all figured out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0BIwcRaFZY&feature=related Of course you are absolutely right. Leg-kicking between actually either one of YOU (at approx the 2:00 mark in sparkling example of your clear and obvious mad-skillz we are all just jealous of is all) - if EITHER ONE OF YOU had even as much as a 90' off-heading opening here between you, wouldn't have mattered one iota. You just keep-on-keepin' on there Butch, and completely dismissing and discounting EXPERIENCED advice being given. It's all only old farts trying to hold you down. You clearly already know better. coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  19. +1 That is my impression and (limited) experience with a Katana of very similar wingloading actually, Martin - to the incident you are referring, and now asking further about as well. Which is why I posted what I did earlier, directly within the incident thread itself. The bolded/emphasized part is most critical and possibly pertinent (I think at least possibly) to the incident you refer. If the jumper was either somehow simultaneously incapacitated during his opening, or severely disoriented by/during the event itself enough, or for whatever similar reason regardless - caused his inability/failure to unstow and affirmatively counter his resulting spiral - that spiral very well then could have continued, as it would not otherwise necessarily just "correct itself". coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  20. That's the way I've always looked at it too. Just a quick added word-to-the-wise though on this ...be careful to also not allow that "okay - they've seen/acknowledged me" to also allow you to so completely dismiss that other acknowledging canopy/canopy pilot, to the point that it bites you in the arse. coitus non circum - Moab Stone

  22. You could try one of those automotive light/lens rejuvenation kits. I've had someone tell me they had acceptable results with one of them - but from personal experience, I: 1. Would not go with one of the cheaper ones (been there tried that - have the TRASHED visor to show for it), and then... 2. By the time/expense you've done that - actually just getting the NEW / REPLACEMENT visor (what I ended up doing ANYWAY) is still, probably in the end analysis - best. coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  23. Interesting. Just the weight of the rig alone itself, no "dummy" required - and this should be expected to provide full/clean AAD activated reserve deployment? Seriously? I might just be tempted enough on this to agree / actually try it. So long as I can find a DZ / Pilot also willing to cohort. coitus non circum - Moab Stone
