"I assume most of you are intelligent, caring, warm individuals and I'm thinking you have more to express then simply a joy of women's breasts, but that's just me. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How dare she think of us like that!! "How do you get a man excited, Just Show Up!!"" Yup, I knew as soon as I gave you guys credit for being more then just walking bags of hormones someone would say I'm wrong (a man at that). By the way, did anyone notice that this thread has a lot of "boobie" talk (not to mention, bush talk, particularily yucky) in it even though people think it's for 15 year olds. Yup, you sex guys will hijack any old thread won't you? (By the way, for those of you who are wondering, I can talk about sex with the best of them, but most of this stuff is just too darm tame and mainstream.) Well, yeah. It seems kind of dumb. Half the population has them, there doesn't seem to be any reason to obsess. Go get a porno mag or a girlfriend or something. But if this is designed to simulate sitting around at a drop zone talking then it is representative. I just think it's kind of dumb there too. I assume most of you are intelligent, caring, warm individuals and I'm thinking you have more to express then simply a joy of women's breasts, but that's just me. No, this isn't meant to flame anyone in particular, I'm just taking the opportunity to express myself. Gale Life's not worth living if you can't feel alive

Yup, in my lowley opinion, setting rules and sticking to them is important. I am not a parent so some would say that I can't have an opinion here, but I can tell you that my parents were awful and they ended up producing my brother who only deals in illiegal activities, and a girl who was suicidal for years. So here's my advice: sit down with your child and choose some responsibilities and consequences that you can both live with. These should include responsibilities and consequences for the parent as well. Then stick to it! If you both decide that 11 o'clock is a resonable curfew and he's late, the consequence should be implemented. I just make this point because my brother was an expert at wrapping our mother around his finger. Other then that, if you can afford familty counselling it can really help. Raising teenagers is really tough and a neutral third party can help both of you. Good luck. Raising kids is the most important (hard) thing you'll ever do. I'm astounded! I just can't think of what would motivate people to hurt a bunch of skydivers. We're not exactly talking about a political entity here. My thoughts are with all those hurt by this stupidity. Gale Life's not worth living if you can't feel alive

Me too!! My left foot even! Yesterday was worse actually because I had to look longinly up at a perfectly cloudless sky and pout. Doc says it's going to be 3-6 weeks for me. I'm thinking I can cut that down considerably. How long for you? Anyway, I'm here for you. Ooo, and did I mention I have a final tomorrow and thus can't take any pain meds (the make me too woozy to study). Yeah, great. Get well soon. The thought I'm trying to concentrate on is this, by the time I get all better it will be good weather everyday and I can go out any time I want. Gale Life's not worth living if you can't feel alive

I just wanted to let you know that I think your server time is wrong. Gale Life's not worth living if you can't feel alive

"You must now sit through the entire movie "Dropzone" (I think it is) to find out the answer" Then do I have to write a 10 page paper explaining its signifigance to the skydiving culture at large? Well, OK. It's a good time to do it when I'm our with a f*cked up ankle. I can dream about skydiving even if I can't do it. Gale Life's not worth living if you can't feel alive

Sorry, apparently this is something that skydivers innately know, but where did this term come from? Gale Life's not worth living if you can't feel alive

Well, I think you're right, he's not responsible for decisions you make in the air. We're all responsible for the choices we make, and by just blindly following someone else you've already made a mistake. That said, I know that some dzs have a rule where you have to land in the same direction as the jumper in front of you. In that case, if an experienced jumper lands downwind, and then a non experience jumper follows him down because of the rule (and maybe lack of experience) then the experienced guy is, I would say, at least somewhat to blame. My dz actually has that rule and so I followed an experienced jumper down on one of my first dives doing my own ground control and ended up landing downwind because of it. I didn't get hurt, but it did suck though. After that, I talked to the guys while in the plane and politely asked them to land upwind. Of course, no matter what they do, I now know to use other cues as well because you never know when the wind will shift. So, I guess if I was an experienced jumper and I knew a student was on the same load I might make a special effort to land well, if for no other reason then just to help them out a little. Yup! My hair is purple and when I land people like to mention how there are little purple tufts of hair popping out of my helmet! Gale Life's not worth living if you can't feel alive

Just as a newbie perspective: On the plane ride up yesterday one experienced jumper asked another to do a pin check just before the door opened. Well, I watched the checker adjust the the guys closing pin just seconds before this guy left the aircraft. Now would this have resulted in a mal? Probably not. But the very fact that it needed adjusting at all is proof enough to me that gear checks are a great idea. Now whether they should be mandated or not I'll leave to someone else, but for me, I definately think they should be there. Gale Life's not worth living if you can't feel alive

I may just get "feet and knees together" tattooed someplace. And no, I really don't plan on doing this again. The kicker, by the way, is that I was actually really close to the target for like, the first time ever. While I'll take my far away happy landings over this close one anyday. Well, I'm a newbie but I'll tell you my limited experience. On my first freefall I was very scared and pushed away from the plane (a BIG no-no) so I landed on my back straight off the plane losing my camera-man and one instructor. It took 4,000 feet to get stable and I remember looking up at the sky thinking "that shouldn't be there. Oh yeah, I'm supposed to do something, aaarrrccchhh". And then I was stable for a very short time before the lost instructor tried to dock on me and sent us tumbling. (Oh, my instructor pulled, everything was OK.) So, as you can see, I have some experience with a bad exit and instability. The best thing for me was visualizing the motion from standing on the step, to gently floating in the path of an arch until my belly was towards the earth. In my head this motion seems calm and relaxing, like stepping off onto a cloud or something. Corny - maybe. But my next exit was perfect. Stable right away. Thinking about it that way make calm on the step, which is the best time to be calm! (If you ask me.) Then I've found my training takes over in freefall. That's just my two cents. Yeah, I'll try. I've got a final on Monday so I can't take any pain meds as they wouldn't let me study. But after that I'm taking a week off of everything and I'm just going to do the physiotherapy. I'm hoping I can be back an a lot sooner than eight weeks. You're telling me that I owe beer for spraining my ankle!!!!! I think people should owe me beer for that, it makes more sense, I can drink it and try to forget about the pain. Actually, the guys out at the dz were really nice, one of them stayed with me in the hospital and drove my car home and another one drove me home! I told them I would get them whatever they wanted (they didn't want beer). Thanks for the positive vibes, I needed some and that's why I posted! My friends already think I'm crazy and now that I've injured myself that impression hasn't exactly improved, if you know what I mean. But, now I'm doing turns in the air and that kicks ass. I'm going to try to concentrate on that.

Just in case you were wondering why that is, it's because floating point arithmetic done on computers is typically done in Marc-64 which is 64 BITS of precision in computer code. This results in a lack of accuracy when you are using very large or very small numbers. It has to do with binary arithmetic which is how it's done on the processor. Excel was not designed to handle such large numbers whereas scientific applications would be. Gale Life's not worth living if you can't feel alive

Well, I passed level to and did manage to slow my fall rate from 150mph to 131mph with a combination of a bigger suit and some appempt to dearch. For more information on the exciting day I had check out I passed level 2 and got my first skydiving injury . Life's not worth living if you can't feel alive

Well, today I did turns for the first time in freefall!!! Yay! It went pretty well and I passed the level. Not perfect, but I'll take it. For those of you who read my thread in safety and training, yes I manged to slow my fall rate some. With a bigger suit and an attempt to dearch, my fall rate went from 150mph to 131mph belly to earth! Also, I actually landed ON the field (near the centre, our field is not that big) this time!!! Much better then before. BUT (and it's a big one) I flared to early, and we all know what happens when you flare to early on a day with no wind, you slam into the grownd; which is what I did. To make matters worse, I forgot the training that I used, oh so many times before, to keep your feet and knees together on landing. So I sprained my ankle. Bad. Doc says it's as bad as a break and it will take as long to hearl. It hurts, a lot. Now I'm out of commision for weeks, and just at the beginning of the season, when I could actually get some good jumping in and get some consistency going. Anyway, I'm mostly mad at myself for being so dumb. I just can't beleive it. So, I turn to you, my skydiving bretheren to help me through this self punishment phase I'm going through. I know lots of people injur themselves, but I was really hoping I wouldn't have to expereince that part of the sport on my 12th jump! Gale Life's not worth living if you can't feel alive
-
That's just what I was thinking! Some say that looking good is important in this sport and there not hope of that until I get out of these boxy, ill-fitting suit.
-
Wow! That's lots of information! Thanks! I didn't actually think of getting more then one jumpsuit (duh) but it's a good idea. Nice to know you don't think it's a handicap. Gale Life's not worth living if you can't feel alive

Thanks to everyones good advice. (And it's nice to know that others have had this problem too.) I'm going out to the dz tomorrow and we'll see what we can do about getting a bigger jumpsuit, or them putting on weights. I'm glad people have said that I can wait to learn to de-arch, of course this will all be up to my instructors. I'll post how it goes tomorrow after the dive. By the way, at my dz we have a package deal where you pay $1000 cdn up front and get the four levels of PFF with video once per level. So if you have to repeat you don't have to pay again. (No, they won't let you stretch that forever, you do have to TRY to pass the levels.) I've heard this is the cheapest place to learn to skydive! I think our dz owner is really in it for the sport more than the money. Gale Life's not worth living if you can't feel alive
-
Yeah, I agree. But I've heard stroies that a guy at my dz has done the same thing, more then once! People think it's funny. I'm not sure I do. Gale Life's not worth living if you can't feel alive
-
Oh, I know they're joking. I think it's kind of funny too. I think I surprised my instructors! And, I can't really do nothing about it because due to my fall rate my instructor almost went right over the top of me last time and so he dumped me at 6,000+ So I didn't get anything done really. (Obviously he didn't want me pulling with him on top!) Obviously we'll be discussing it in more detail before my next jump, I'm just looking for tips. Beach ball huh? Sounds hard without going unstable. Gale Life's not worth living if you can't feel alive

I was thinking a similar thought, and I'm only 24! Gale Life's not worth living if you can't feel alive

Don't make fun of me! I've heard of other girls having this problem too. (The increased flexibility makes them prone sometimes.) But, you know, if I don't come up with a better idea.... Gale Life's not worth living if you can't feel alive

That sounds like a good idea to me! I know sometimes people really rush to pack and get on the next load, so this would at least make them stop and think for one moment. Gale Life's not worth living if you can't feel alive
