  5. The Skydivin' Place is about 45 minutes from Baltimore, they're open Thursday thru Monday. It's a fun little Cessna DZ, also has a trampoline and a hot tub

  8. You can either go to school for 1.5 - 2.5 years and take the written/oral/practical tests, or you can work under the supervision of a mechanic (and log it) for 2 years. You must have a letter of recommendation signed by an IA saying they think you're ready for the tests and take it to the FSDO. Then the FSDO gives you permission to take the tests. If you go with second option, there are some good programs that "prep" you for the tests before you take them, which can take 1 - 2 weeks depending on how much you studied for them. eg Baker's School of Aeronautics ( http://www.bakerssch.com/ ) in TN has a great reputation. You will Not make very much money as an A&P. You will make more fixing trucks any day.
  9. You can check out The Skydivin' Place in Littlestown, PA. It's a neat little Cessna dz, and they jump during the week in the summer so you can sneak up after work in the evenings
  10. I had heard they were moving to NC. It looks like they're settled in according to their website, but you could probably email them and find out.
  11. P- I am bringing my mushing gift certificate

  13. She should definitely do a tandem. After landing off twice on AFF (level 6 I got stuck 70ft up in a tree), I was too petrified of being under canopy to get out of the plane again. My dz had me do a tandem (at a discounted rate at that) to get me comfortable again, and I don't think I'd have been able to go again on my own without that refresher/relaxation jump. Everybody learns differently, and if that's what will make her feel better she should not let someone talk her into something else.
  14. I'll be around on the occasional weekend. Weeknights for after-work jumps at nearby Littlestown (Hanover). Cburg is a nice dz. Welcome to the area!

  16. Maybe its a dropzone-specific thing. At this particular meet (chester, sc) the plane/pilot was one from the dz I normally jump at (css), and that's how it works there too.
  17. Possibly on the first couple loads your groups were bigger than 4-ways? I was there and am trying to remember. There was confusion on several loads as to how many passes there should be. Meets get like that sometimes. As for sitting on the floor, people sit the whole length of the casa on the floor when its a full load. People exiting in the last groups sit on the floor in the back, people exiting in the first groups sit on the floor towards the door. Has nothing to do with age :) Yelling happens when the props are turning and everyone is disorganized and jumpers are not sitting down. Yelling also happens on jump run when jumpers are full of adrenaline. I'm not excusing it but don't take it personally. Length of separation (eg 3 sec) comes from the pilot. Realistically I don't think any of us actually made 3 seconds (especially us 4-ways teams) but the point was to keep it moving, probably because of what the winds (uppers) were doing.
  18. Negative...y'all will have 2 planes, a casa (for students and fun-jumpers) and an otter for the meet.
  19. Yup. There's a CASL meet this weekend at Chester, I know 3 or 4 of the teams from css are all going down there.
  20. Bumping this up since its this weekend. Lots of good stuff going on at Carolina Sky Sports this weekend. Big cookouts on Saturday and sunday, the anniversary celebration (lots of interesting history at this dz!) and the usual boogie organizing (RW, FF, & CRW) and jumpships (Casas & otters). Blue skies, Lynn
  21. Yep, William is a very good rigger. I am also going to pm you a couple of other email addresses for riggers in the area.
  22. Hey Douggie Fresh! It looks like its going to be a quite busy weekend down here! I think Saturday is the 30th Anniversary cookout/party etc, Sunday they're roasting a pig and we're celebrating and remembering James Willer (his family will be out on Sunday for this), and I dunno what's on Monday festivity-wise but my team is training all weekend so I have to be fairly well behaved See ya soon!! -L
  23. 1:7:1 1 friend that that is sharing the sky in a different way forever...Blue skies James, I miss you and am grateful for the time we had. 7 hot skydives at my favorite dz with my favorite people - thanks for the love and keeping my spirits up all weekend. Y'all rock. 1 case of beer for a "00" jump (I will bring more growlers next time!)
  24. Chambersburg is a great DZ. I visited a couple of times over the winter before I moved away. JR and Kathie are very nice, I had lots of fun there.
  25. My allergies are pretty bad too (I get shots and stuff), and I have a reaction to pseudoephedrine (oral decongestant). I jump with sinus discomfort, I stop when its really painful. When it starts to get bad I take maybe one tablet of something w/decongestant, since any decongestant makes it hurt less. You'd probably feel a lot worse if you weren't taking anything. Afrin rocks too.
