to much... i rarely cook (to much mess for just me) so i eat out ALOT... that means about 150-200 a week as good food prepared well.. it is certainly possible... and is both the advantage and the disadvantage of a democratic system... however unlike an 'official' governmental system, skydiving is a voluntary, recreational activity.. if the membership is OK with the current levels of risk, responsibility, over sight and the resulting fatality ratio in skydiving under the current BSRs then so be it.. if the USPA adopts (or chooses not to adopt) BSRs that the majority of members do not agree with, it might be time to start another organization one that serves the needs and desires of its members and jump at DZs that fit your PERSONALLY acceptable level of risk and oversight.. guidelines and course structures are wonderful things, and the advance and dissemination of skydiving information is something the USPA should always encourage... but leave the actual decision about relative risk up to the individual pilot and the DZ's (and therefore DZOs/ST&As) locally... then you can 'vote' with your patronage... to much of a "safety nazi" culture? to much 'reckless indulgence'? Simple answer, Find a DZ that fits your personal preference and acceptable risk level and see what the 'membership' really wants in the way of mandatory regulation... will people still die? of course.. that will never change..but its your life... live it, risk it, lose it in the manner YOU choose the information is out there... more and more every day... its up to YOU to seek it... as it should be... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

actually you have the right to face your accuser, the radar gun in this case as he gave you a ticket for a specific speed. if he had given you 'unsafe speed for conditions' it is totally a judgment and you have no recourse, but by citing a specific speed at a specific time he is required to produce evidence of this observation, and evidence that they instrument in question was capable of making the observation (aka properly calibrated) The cop will be required to bring this evidence and evidence of your speed (nearly all commercial variants i am familiar with will have print outs) with him if you challenge it in court. Failure to do so generally results in immediate dismissal. 5mph is less than the tolerance for any commercial radar gun and can easily be fought. I've had some 5 tickets thrown out or reduced due to improper use of a radar gun by a cops who thought they could 'bully' me and extort an improper tax.. most people simply pay it as generally it isnt worth the time and energy to fight.. but if facts are as the original poster claimed he should get a lawyer and fight. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

damn dave your gonna make me spend some cash.... i have more blades than i really need, but never as many as i want.... my favorite pocket knife atm is a simple gerber cameleon picked up at a PX for 20$ its amazing how i seem to hang on to the 'cheap' knives forever... one of the reasons i stopped carrying any of the 'special' ones around... ps.. this thing makes sharpening serrated edges an easy task...
