  1. call and get scheduled for the tandem it helps them figure out the workload, and get video. the weather is gorgeous lately, but this is WA so i'm certainly not going to say it will stay that way.. if we have enough jumpers we jump late (9pm ish) into the evening so bring some beer and hang out afterwards if your schedule allows... look for the tiger stripes and say hi! ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  2. nothing at all. in fact i fully support this. Demonstrated ability, not jump numbers. now how do we develop a system (with numbers, training outs etc) that does that without creating a huge lever for the lawyers to use against us? what happens when hypothetical guy who has the ability, has demonstrated the skills and is signed off by the ST&A to jump that 1.7@100 jumps makes a mistake, pounds in, dies, and the grieving family sues? right now we have waivers and the only person responsible for how and what you chose to fly is you, but if we create a system that could be interpreted as "the ST&A said you'd be safe under this canopy" we've also created a huge liability issue that i imagine many ST&As will just say 'No' rather than deal with the potential lawsuits & liability. that will hold people back. people who otherwise might be jumping that 1.7 because the bought it themselves and they can without asking for permission (and when they screw up the only one 'responsible' for that screw up be it due to lack of skill, training, or simple misfortune which can happen to ANYONE is the pilot) will not be allowed to find their personal limits because they DZO/ST&A cannot afford the liability We cannot develop a system that gives lawyers more ammunition! no matter how much it might help raise the bar for canopy control skills overall. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

    Field First Aid

its a great article.. i prefer the military steps for evaluation vs the a,b,c,d approach as i always found them easier to remember. "Really Big Breast Should Fill Both Hands" Responsiveness Breathing Bleeding Shock Fractures Burns (not as common in BASE i guess) Head injury but the substance of the article is wonderful... really really well done! may you never need it ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  4. to many? how many? how many fly right at or slightly below their limits without incidnet and yet get no attention and no fanfare because they are successful? see your not holding back 'a few' you are holding back the whole for the sake of the 'few' who will not listen, and or didnt learn. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  5. nope, those are basic licenses what i mean by 'cookie cutter' is a broad sweep approach that affects all jumpers (once licensed) based soley on jump numbers, without consideration to the huge number of factors that play into anyones learning approach.. yeah. if you've got 5 hours tunnel time you might be ready for RW on your 3rd freefall..still need to learn how to pull and land, but you could be smoking the points... you just cant post without exagerating anothers argument out of proportion in order to riducule can you??(see the 'invalid argument types post again) ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

    Terminator 3

If they were believeable, they wouldn't be SCI-FI thats the difference between sci-fi (rhymes with "iffy" as in not bloodly likely) and Science Fiction.. the first two were pretty decent science fiction.. this last was total sci-fi ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  7. he could do the same thing from any launch point high enough.. the aircraft is simply a convenience the nascar guys are useless without their machines... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

    Terminator 3

if you'll notice the other machines were terminators (T-X activated them), and i have no problem with another machine assuming control over any device that has automated mechanical assists. Lots of equipment isnt really controlled by the physical motion the operator gives, but instead but the system built to relay the commands from the box the human is using, and you could simply bypass the box and give the commands directly to the machine (in aircraft this is "fly by wire") Many assembly lines etc work like this. What skynet did was take control over already very automated military command system and start a nuclear war.. there is however still no way that a car can turn its own steering wheel, no matter how many commands are given to it by a CPU being controlled.. the 'nano tech' excuse used by arnold doesnt fly..you still have to generate the physical force to turn the steering wheel.. also how (since there are no visual sensors on any of the cars she was 'controlling') did she drive them when she was out of line of sight?? (which she was for quite a bit of that chase scene) the first movies were pretty careful not to reach to far into never never land for this one they threw the verisimilitude that made the first two great... right out the window in the name of a few flashy stunts... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

    Terminator 3

yup bad fiction. please explain how a car turns its own steering wheel? the more silly they get to make a 'cool shot' the more they lose the 'suspension of disbelief' that is fundamental to any good fiction. No matter what the genre, you have to set up the 'rules' of the world in which you are creating. Majic, Force, warp drive, time travel etc... but when you then repeated violate those rules (in most cases for a cool stunt) you are demostrating poor writing skills and bad directing. did you read the label on the drug he took? amazing how the affects 'vanish' instantly.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  12. funny.. so anytime i add 15 deg of dive i've 'invented' a new discipline?? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  13. no one is suggesting not learning basic canopy flying skills. What i continue to bring to light is that what is 'over the edge" for you may very well be holding back for someone else. Lets be careful not to create a 'cookie cutter' system that limits everyone based on those who fail to learn and demonstrate that failure in a spectacular method.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  14. yes the 'game' takes place between the teams, the individual participants are athletes ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  15. Hey, hey, hey, golf absolutely is a sport. It takes skill and concentration. And I happen to love playing golf. Now, what I have to ask is; how does race car driving count as a sport? that makes it a game Motor "sports" participants are not "athletes" either.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

    Terminator 3

i have to disagree completely. dont waste your money, wait till the video comes out so you can stop it and hurl it across the room.. the plot has more holes than round fired in the movie. I'm willing to suspend disbelief quite a bit but i was close to walking out of that movie on several occasions. Controlling other machines? pleeeeease how? can skynet somehow suspend the basic laws of physics? it wasnt even good as a 'middle movie' which are traditionally (Empire Strikes Back being the exception) very poor in comparison. i give it a 8 on the lame list. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

  22. when laws are enacted (and enforced) that fit with my personal belief in justice then they will be the only option i consider. As long as we have a system that is designed for the lowest common denominator, laws are simply guidelines that tell you what you can do in public and what must be handled privately. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

  25. someone has to be the hand of fate, and the law often does a piss poor job and only increases the trama to the victim by drawing out the process for public ridicule. there are lots of ways to take care of oxygen thiefs like this that are very hard to trace and will keep your hands clean.. i have no problem with being the tip of the karmic spear on occasion.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
