and i dont think anyone can disagree with demonstrated results, you might not like the method, or the risks involved with it, but the results speak for themselves in the cases I’m aware of....it may not be for everyone, and it certainly isnt for anyone lacking a disciplined approach, but having seen the effect in several people first hand, well......it worked for them, and yes all three i am still close to are still skinny 3 years later...they made the life style changes to maintain their 'new' body once they reached the goals they wanted from the Atkins diet.. again it’s a weight loss tool, not a way of life…there are certainly others and definitely others that are more cautious, but short of an amphetamine addiction I’ve never seen anyone lose so much weight so quickly…. its not for me..(i'm skinny anyway, exercise regularly and love pasta far to much) but i've seen it work for others.... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Oh, that's where all the supermen came from . All it takes is a diploma to be 'complete'. I thought that was the scarecrow from the wizard of oz. Pretty tough on all those subhumans out there without arts training. But if they don't know what they're missing, they can't miss it. You can always pity them and try to take care of them. Now who is sounding bitter and self-congratulatory? "Pretty tough on all those subhumans out there without arts training.” Ps. that isn’t a proper sentence. should we mock your lack of grammar as well? Get over it. The advantage of a liberal arts education is that it will force you to study some areas you would never investigate otherwise. That can lead to significant changes in your life path and take you places you'd never imagined vs the cubical you might be destined for after you finish that business degree on the way to the ‘well paying job’ you thought you desired in high school. Again how much you learn from any program is up to you. you should meet the number of people with worthless computer science degrees I have to work with everyday, all that theory and they still lack basic networking skills. There are just as many equally ignorant people walking the planet with 'hard science' degrees, as there are flaky art students. The diploma means nothing if you did not apply yourself while getting it. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

US Army, E6 96H30AP, Military Intelligence (we'll show the egg you suck it on your own), 5 years, spent the majority of my time assigned to the JTF in Florida where i visited my stuff 2 or 3 days a month.... still playing 'godless contractor' for the military hither and yon, just returned from supporting OIF for a bit.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

sort of depends on whither you go to college to get an education or to get a job?? Education is an on going process I have a BFA with a focus in painting and photography (rather “useless” but once enjoyed painting immensely) as well as a BA in English Literature and enough classes to qualify for minors in history, philosophy, physical education and music as well as a score of classes in scattered disciplines that interested me. yes professional student is still a dream of mine.. However I’ve also got an ‘I love me’ book full of certificates and certifications for the technical requirements of my job. I work building and maintaining radar and radar exploitation platforms for the military, it pays the bills and i enjoy it, as well as the fact i get to work with soldiers. There are lots of ways to acquire knowledge, how much you gain depends more on the individual and their will to learn than the name/type of institution impressed in the paper on a wall.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Exactly! I highlighted "as well." Dreadlocks do not mean a person cannot function at a job. It just means that the person cannot do the job "as well" as without them in many circumstances. This is due to perception. I'll ask you this one. Imagine you are a boss and lookign to hire someone. A well-groomed young man, with a moustache, in good shape interviews. He is fit, articulate and intelligent (and received top marks at uni). You hire him in your customer sales department. He reports for work the next day in a full Nazi uniform. He looks straight out of the Third Reich. HE represents your company, attempting to sell. Will you "open your mind" against the "perceptions" that other have? Or, will you give him a raise for being such an "individual" on your dollar? Let's say it turns out that he volunteers at the Simon Weisenthal Center and his purpose for wearing the uniform is to point out that Nazi's are everywhere, even though he is the furthest from a Nazi. Would you let him continue to wear this uniform, even if you agree with his beliefs? Edited to add: No, I do not associate dreadlocks with that. I'm just giving a hypothetical on "perceptions" and "open minds" actually dreadlocks (or any other hair style for that matter) in no way affects the majority of job functions, so there is no 'as well' standard to compare to. What it might affect is the customers perception. If that perception is based on fact and substantial performance it isnt a problem, if that perception is based on ignorant prejudice then it can be. But the real issue is a social one and resides on the customer, you are simply perpetuating it by pandering to their prejudice, if you (your business) chooses to do so for profits sake they are certainly allowed to, it is a free country, but you are only avoiding the real problem of prejudice by saying "i'm conceding to the customers ignorance for the sake of money" even if it is a social reality. very simply Nazi regalia represents political and social stances that are against nearly every american ideal, even as an anti-nazi protest it is a public political statement dreadlocks, or any other hairstyle simply represents a personal (possibly religious) preference, if said dreadhead were pushing any political view on my customers we have a behavioral/job performance issue, not one of the customers perception….try again.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

You're banishing that which you don't agree with? Interesting concept. Think about it. no i'm asking everyone to look beyond their prejudices to the substance of the person /or issue. ignorance should be something everyone wants less of.... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

1. Again a poor example the uniform is a nesseasary part of their job performance. They simply could not function as well without it. Performance based, not perception. 2. and yet another...you have to keep your mind open or it wont work, your experience with fire is based on its actual effects not on its appearance, do you not stick your hand in sunlight because it looks something like fire??? again.. performance vs perception so if the well coiffed shiny lawyer wins and sends the innocent to prison because everyone in the jury based their decision his appearance (someone so well groomed must be right after all ) vs the substance of the case, your ok with that?? prejudice is a fault anywhere.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

I loath that statement, it's so completely self-congratulatory to those who use it. to bad its the truth.. did you not notice the 'EVERYONE' qualifier?? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

I would not call it stupid. I'd call it pragmatic. I've got plenty of friends who appear countercultural. Nice folks. Smart, too. I would not hire them. Why? Because employees are hired to make money. Period. Work is not the place for making your personal beliefs or political stances known, unless the job consists of that. Do you see dudes in suit and tie working tattoo or piercing parlors? No. Why not? Because they have no credibility. Could I claim "Freedom of Expression" in arguing that I should not be fired, even though no customers come in, anymore? I know that there are certain jobs that I won't get because of my appearance, like as an extra in the television show "ER" playing an emaciated elderly homeless man. I don't look the part, therefore I won't get the part. Freedom of expression my ass. I'm a good actor. Tough noogies.. Know the requirements of your job. That means meeting customer expectations. If your customers expect you to be dressed like a flight attendant, then dress like flight attendant or get another job. and if those customers expectations are based on prejudice? actually yes i know several tatoo artists who DO wear suits and ties when they wish to, but they are restricting and pointless (like the majority of dress codes) in the work place, so they dont wear them, but they certainly could if they wished, and for the most part it wouldn’t effect their income as that is based on their reputation as established by their work. Again, performance not perception. yes, its a social problem as a whole, and continued conformity to ignorant prejudices does nothing to improve the issue, it only reinforces the belief that "everyone else does it so it must be ok..." your analogy to actors is ridiculous, appearance is a function of their job performance. It is not for the majority of jobs, but social mores have made it so... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

You're missing the point. It's not about prejudice....it's about professionalism. As a redneck....if I show up in overalls (No I don't own any ) and a John Deer hat with a chaw in my cheek......I don't look too damn professional do I? Think about it........ what you define as professional is defined by your prejudice. are mustaches unprofessional? beards? goatees? colored hair? or any hairstyle thats meets a min hygenie standard do any of those affect your job performance? professional is about performance. your perceptions of professional is about your prejudices. that is the point. think about it.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

BULLSHIT! I'm a Georgia redneck. You see me wearing a freakin mullet to work. NO. its still a prejudice and a stereotype (look up the definition, if you doubt) and as such a stupid way to make value judgments that have no bearing on performance. once we as a society get past such ignorant attitudes lots of other equally ignorant attitudes can be banished too... of course everyone has to open their minds first.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

I must agree with you on this one. can you say culturally biased? i can..... dread it if you want to, if it doesnt affect your job performance your boss should have no reason to bitch..and take the time to educate your supervisor about dreads so they dont assume "dirty flithy, undisciplined etc..." as many have already.... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

exactly.. everything is unhealthy when excess becomes the norm. everything can be useful when used well.. ive know several people for whom Atkins worked rather amazingly well as a weight loss tool, (in one case, i after 2 kids and nearly 200lbs an old highschool girlfriend now fits back into a pair of jeans i decorated for her when i was 16) but its not a way of life, its just a tool and like all tools the results depend on the one who uses itl. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

really? i suppose servers with 200+ players arent "massive" enough for you? its just not pay per play.. Massive Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game which part of the acronym doesnt fit...dont buy the hype...they only want your money for the original game and expansions where you go from there is only limited by the imagination of the players, not the corporation controlling your gaming experience.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Neverwinter is a MMORPG its just not often played as such on the public servers which are mostly hack and slash...all the roleplay takes place on private servers, custom levels that dont repeat again and again and again.... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
