  1. Yeah am been careful with that, right now am still learning how my canopy works with the 180's, doing the hook at kinda high altitude (from 300fts to 500fts) in no wind days (in winter thats all the wind we get, and its a 8-9 month winter, is it good or bad?) some times to compensate I do a double front after the hook to get a bit more speed, it bleeds off to fast after the hook but since am still learning its ok with me. Dunno if its because am getting used to it or because its a good canopy but the front riser pressure is kinda acceptable. I tried doing a front riser with a sabre 170 and to tell you the truth it was impossible! then tried it with a sabre2 170 and it was kinda hard. (maybe I gotta do more exercise and stop been such a "couch dz.com potato" ) I learned some cool techniques in a canopy control seminar with Scott Miller, something about not trying to pull the riser but try to climb the riser. 2. I am learning how to swoop with a spectre 150 loaded at 1.25:1 but I was told one time that it wasn't recommended to try and swoop with a spectre, so my question is: Is it safe or not safe to swoop with spectres? and why? Right now I am doing 180° front riser hook. Just in case for the jump number flamers: before flaming me because of my jump numbers, come and see my skills under canopy and then flame all you want. 3. Here the instructors will not sign your A license application if you don't know how to pack. Packing lessons and spotting lessons are free of charge, the way it must be. To be a DZ packer for our club, you need to pack 20 times (from F111 to ZP from square to elliptical) with the direct and strict supervition of the rigger, show the ability to clear any mess out of a canopy (including untwisting the toggle lines) and know how to release the 3 rings and install them again; after those pre-requirements you need to take a packers course with the rigger where he will teach you how to make a general check to the canopy when packing (slinks, metal links, check for rusted rings etc.), teach you some stuff about the canopy (A, B, C, D lines etc) and will give you a chart on how to close the different containers and some other things. Oh yeah and you have to be friendly or else you wont get the authorization from the club. HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  4. Cleaner teeth. Have you ever seen somebody biffing with his face? kinda funny to see his face and mouth full of grass. For RW because you can get some nice kicks in the jaw or nose, trust me on this one I have kicked my partner a lot of times HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  5. If you are interested in doing RW in the future then you should go for the full face as your first helmet, there is no need to spend money in 2 helmets. HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  6. You must of really understand me very wrong. I was trying to say to be careful with the canopy nothing more nothing less. HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  7. I never recall calling the canopy shitty, in fact I like that canopy, I jumped it and it was very fun to play with. HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  8. A friend got hurt with a sabre 2 cause of a bad judgment and the wingload was 1:1. Its a canopy that "will really perform if it is pushed.", just like aggidave said. HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  9. This comes from another thread, the hook knive thread. So here is the situation: you open your reserve and when you check the reserve it shows a not so nice line over. Question: What will you do? you have a hook knife with you, you can cut the line if you want. HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  10. I have the reserve, so am going for the reserve but having a line over on a reserve and cutting the wrong line? nice. There is a very old thread here of somebody doing tests with line overs using the hook knife to cut the line and he said that in the test a couple of times he cut the wrong line, good thing he still had a reserve (he was using a cutaway rig or was trying it in a hanging harnes, cant remember). Anyways whatever I say here about that situation might be BS because nobody has an idea on how he/she will act in given situation. HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  11. nope but they should >>In the hypothetical situation in which you're an experienced jumper making a solo with a docile canopy, would you wear a helmet? I am not an experienced jumper but if I where the answer is yes I would wear it. >>Would you ever jump without one? In which situations would you/do you not wear one? Maybe in the future but only as a tandem master doing a tandem and who knows I may be wearing a frap hat. A friend (his dz.com name is skyslut) once asked me the "why I didn't wear a helmet" and I answered its simple because I was just doing a hop n pop, then he asked me for what was a helmet for and I answered for protecting my head, then the question "when can you hit your head skydiving?" easy answer doing formations, riser slaps and with the ground... after that talk I have never jumped without a helmet. >>and those who fly high performance canopies I have a friend who had an accident flying a sabre 2 with a wingload of 1:1 and he wasnt going for a HP landing, something just went wrong and he got a bad landing, hitting his head kinda hard and breaking an ankle, good thing he had a helmet. Always wear one, if you dont like it because its suffocating then go for an open face, if you want to hear the wind then go for a protect or the bikers design that bonehead has (the one without the spikes). 12. If you can get a PC maybe they can install it in your rented gear, ask them, somebody at the DZ should have an extra PC and can lend it until you get your own gear. HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  13. I think it would be best not to try to cut a line over in a spinning reserve, scares me more the idea of cutting a wrong reserve line than going down to the floor with a spinning reserve. Maybe somebody with more experience can tell me more about this. HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  14. I have seen a couple of rigs that have a pocket in the legstrap for the hook knife. I have mine, a jack the ripper, in my jumpsuit leg but I don't quite like it because when I do a good fast track, the button that holds the knife usually gets off (help with grammar please) so I wouldn't recommend it. Hook knife shouldn't be sharpen at least the jack the ripper knife because it has some very sharp blades that don't need more sharpening, trust me they really cut (had to cut a jumpsuit 2 weeks ago and it cut like hot knife on butter). A good thing to do is to check if the blades are rusted, if they are then just change them. Jack the Ripper comes with replacement blades. HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  15. always remember that line when you fly the sabre 2. HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  16. You sure about that? I have heard that Rigging Innovations puts padding on the Voodoo when you install a smaller main than the one the container is made for. Heard that from a rigger who took his course there. I think if you ask the manufacturer to install the padding there would not be no problem with it. HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  17. shortest time packing has been about 2 mins or maybe less, it was a F111
  18. huh? I think my english is getting a bit flunky but don't you mean a small main in a large container? HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  19. Huge containers with small canopies. Body position is a huge factor on openings specially on ellipticals and the rest is what you like of a canopy, I use one that opens with a lot of snivels and I know of others that open very fast, and I have heard that there are other canopies that are really freaky when they open (ie. velocity) and of course you have the CReW canopies which open very very hard if you pull at terminal (thats what i've been told). Wont say the name but it was a 9 cell F111, student rig, only thing that I liked was the packing. HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  20. I own a bonehead boomerang first edition, its VERY comfy but looks kinda ugly and is not flip up. the Z1 I don't like, to tight gives me the creeps (claustrophobic (sp?)), and also tried a Factory Diver, this one felt kinda tight too. HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  21. Learn the FARs and all the privileges that C license can do (including specialties). HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  22. Carry it on inside a bag (only the parachute inside that bag). Don't tell them things they are not asking. If the ask what is that, tell them that its a parachute; if they ask what is that thing with wires that appears on the xray tell them its an automatic opener. if you mention the word "explosive" inside an airport you will most probably go to jail. HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  23. don't worry montana, its like everybody said, practice practice practice. Like the previews post, its all about knowing your lines, flake them, sort them, bring the tail up give it some rolls and be ready for the good stuff doing the S and puting it inside the container. Best thing you can do is to get a F111 canopy for learning. How hard? I hate it the part of the S fold and puting that huge piece of nylon inside a lil bag, took me a lot of time and help. If you want a video you can get "pack like a pro" its a good one. HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  24. Sabres do open hard and have an incredible hard front riser pressure. Sabre 2 open better and are nice to fly, dunno much about the body pos during deployment but haven't heard of an incident because of that, so in my opinion I consider it safe at a proper wingload. Spectre are semieliptical and people recommend it for newbies. HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
  25. get the used rig, all the other things are extras that are not that important for a jump. HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
