  1. Disclaimer: I did a quick search on water training and water jumps and didn't see an answer about this. I don't mean to troll, but... The SIM states that all you need is an A-license to perform water jumps. Why isn't water training mandatory before performing water jumps? The BSR only says water jumps must have the "advice" of an S&TA, IE or RD. Should the 'privilege' of doing water jumps be moved to B-license holders?
  2. I haven't made the time to get water training, mostly because my B is just not a high priority for me. Until recently, I didn't think I needed any of the new 'privileges' although at some point I'd like to get a coach rating, so I'll need my B by then.
  3. Haven't seen it, but my school's supposed to have a free (I think) screening of it in a week and a Q&A with Eugene Jarecki. If anyone's in the Boston/Cambridge area and wants to see it on Monday night (not sure what time), 1/16, let me know.

  5. Says members only to me I'm probably not going to get a paper copy either, -- someone PM'd it to me; thanks!
  6. thanks a lot for posting these, guys! all great stories to read, especially while the weather's making it hard to get out to the dz.
  7. I missed the show when it was on TV, but got hooked after a friend bought the DVD set. I enjoyed the movie but it was kind of a downer.

    Geek question

I've used firefox on Mac OS X for a while and it's pretty good; it was mostly useful to me so that I could keep using the same key combinations I do on other non-Mac machines. All that said, I haven't had any real issues with Safari, it's just a convenience thing.
  11. I'll echo Doug's request for a story. Y'all have really good ones and it's too cold to be hanging around a bonfire outside with the old timers right now...one side gets toasty warm the other side gets frostbite.
  12. Ack, what's going on with CPI? I've wanted to make it back down there since I got my license this spring, as I did my first tandem there years ago. Man, my parents were unhappy when they found out about it though.
  13. Indeed But when you've been around as long as some of us have the numbers...well they just add up. Still...I have more posts than jumps. Then again I only update my jump numbers once a year. Nope no where close
  14. Only one for me this term: Operating Systems Engineering Some people's finals here are going until the 22nd. Back to writing my final papers instead of lurking on dz.com...

    Byron

Thanks a lot y'all, I had a great time on Saturday. I wish I had had the time to stick around, and not ducked out early, but oh well. Y'all have a nice DZ and it was cool meeting people.
  16. :3:much beer owed to the folks at Byron Showed up at Byron Saturday, was welcomed by lots of people and got on a couple fun jumps. It was awesome meeting y'all (and nice to jump in warm weather!). I disappeared to catch my flight home before buying beer, but next time I show up I'll make up for it, I promise.
  17. If it snows a lot, I'll be able to save more money to spend on tunnel time when it's finally finished In all seriousness, I'm really looking forward to you guys opening up and being able to get some tunnel time without needing to travel really long distances

    Byron

I should be in Redwood City this Saturday and I'm thinking of sneaking over to Byron before I leave on the redeye that night. Hopefully weather.com is right about the forecast because it looks a crapload better than the weather here in Boston. How hard is it to get on small RW stuff without knowing anyone there?

    Sunnyvale

So I'm stuck in Sunnyvale, CA until Saturday morning without a car and my social calendar is completely open tomorrow (Friday) night. Any suggestions on places to go/people to see/beers to drink?
  20. O.A.R. was awesome when I saw them here in Boston, as is Guster from what I hear. Also good is Matt Nathanson (he opened for O.A.R. when I saw them) and Pseudopod.
  21. :3:0 3 fun small rw jumps landed out on one in a field with 4 other people
  22. Speaking of the countersuit, anyone else see http://www.uspa.org/news/index.htm
  23. I grew up in Westport and don't really live there anymore either (in college in Boston now), and having driven to and through Hartford a bunch of times, I'd have to agree that there's not that much there.
  24. :2:0 The rain finally stopped long enough in the northeast for me to get a couple jumps in and damn did it feel good. Did a 2-way and a 3-way RW.
