Same thing happened to my wife 2 years ago. When the person checking the pin lifted the main flap his finger caught bridal when lifting the main cover and he pulled the pin out. Sucks, but at least they weren't near the door and he paid for her slot. He felt horrible about it though... Blue skies ian Performance Designs Factory Team -
No shit eh

I believe he stated it was object fixation. The big black hole sure can suck you in. We've watched the vid a million times and from that angle it's hard to see if he was still on the fronts or had just gone to the rears. Glad he came out ok though, but still a good lesson for us all to heed....making the target/pond is good, but it ain't worth dying for. blue skies, be safe, and see you in Eloy

You may have already seen it, but this is Andy Anderson (last year I believe) at the NE swoop meet. Walked away scott free....damn miracle if you ask me. Clicky Blue skies ian Performance Designs Factory Team

Did I ask you for a gear check?
ianmdrennan replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've jumped a number of aircraft, many cramped, and NONE have been so cramped I've been unable to get or give myself a gear check. Sometimes it is more comfortable to wait until the first group goes (bigger plane obviously), but even the many small cessna's I've been crammed into haven't prohibited this. I still believe that you are correct in expecting to be asked first though, I'm more commenting on the ability *not* to do a pin check. Be careful out there. The earth is waiting. No way dude. There are much bigger idiots than you -
I think the grammer I used confused you, or at least relayed an unintentional status. I was responding to a question on what I considered a students AFF 1. Hence the statment "I'm considering Level 1 as the students first AFF dive,"... I see that I could have worded it "I consider" but the implication was unintentional. I assumed that if there was any question a simple look at my profile would show I'm no AFF student. I think you read into, or I incorrectly relayed, that statement. This must be a first but I agree with you.....guess winter is coming early this year -
That's cool - so you understand my reason for posting then? Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

not fishing - just enquiring. I have had previous experience with this type of thing ONCE a few years ago. At the time I had no idea on AFF standards (I came from a static line dropzone), but it was later brought to my attention that this was not the norm. When the original posted spoke of A JM (singular), I thought I'd get a general concensus, seeing as I am not an AFF instructor and go to a DZ that uses 2 JM's. Thats all. If you aren't doing anything wrong and have nothing to hide, I couldn't be fishing for anything...right? Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

odd - I don't know many FF'ers with pull out, but I think it's probably a 80/20 split (I'm pretty sure there are more throw outs than pull outs). I know Dave Brown jumps throw out and I believe Alchemy do too. I dont think so - both pins can be knocked out with plane movement, although a pull out at least you don't have to worry about the pc still being in the spandex while the main deploys
-
Yep - thanks everyone. Just found this unusual, but it seems that it's a perfectly acceptable way of doing the progression. Live and learn

Look me up in Eloy. I'd be happy to do a jump or 2 with you (planning on doing 100 anyway). I'm no DB by a long way (he's still one of the best FF teachers I've ever met), but I've taught my fair share of HD/Sit flying and you'd be happy to do a fun jump or 2. Guys, thanks for all the info, it's very interesting. So Derek, would you take someone with 1 JM who had NOT done the 3 'working' tandems? I appreciate the info. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

I'm considering Level 1 as the students first AFF dive, with a maximum of only 1 tandem "fun jump" done prior (i.e not tandem progression). So, my next question is....what are the safety implications of this? Thanks for the info. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

Yeah...what he said

Hey Folks, I got a question for all you AFF JM's out there. How common is it to use 1 JM for AFF level 1? I don't have any instructional ratings so I have no idea if this is more common than not. Typically I notice that 2 JM's are used, but I do know of instances where there is only 1. Can anyone enlighten me? Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

yep...practice, practice, practice. It sounds like you're doing splendedly for where you are right now. Just keep working on it and it'll get easier with every jump. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

ohhhh goody. I was hoping we'd be able to rip up the water -
That's a good thing to be worried about. However, if you practice a lot up high you'll find that it's not nearly as hard as you think it is. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

It does kinda suck sometimes, but my wife and I use winter to save up and then bang out 300+ jumps in 6 months. Use the winter for a little R&R and vacations to warm places
