Industry info relevant to PCsize/opening thread
ianmdrennan replied to 3ringheathen's topic in Gear and Rigging
Yep - I ditched my 24" cause of sub terminal hesitations. Irritating and not something I wanted to deal with if I had to get out low. I went back to my 32" ZP (yes ZP!) pilot chute, and besides higher snatch force (or whatever you call that initial jerk) I've experienced NO difference in the opening speeds on a 96, 90 and 84 velo. I'm with you on this one, PC's (collapsable) don't effect opening speed in my experiences. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -

Nine Inch Nails - Fragile tour Providence venue. Trent was crowd surfing while singing one of his best, most entertaining performances ever. A Perfect Circle opened for him as well to promote their upcoming debut album, which was a huge bonus too

Too bad you can't accept that her choice to appear in a publication is exactly that...HER choice. How is that degrading? Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -

Yes there are removable sliders, but they are prone to malfunction. I don't know if companies are working on having them available for anything other than special request. This is NOT the kind of thing you want to use on every jump, just the same as a removable d-bag/bridal system. Quite honestly most people aren't getting enough from their canopies as it is, adding other variables just increases the complication and preparation time. For us "average folk" a collapsible slider system that we can pull behind our head is more than adequate. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

not to sidetrack the thread but lets not forget about the bandless bags out there. I think it's safe to say that line dump doesn't happen (at least in the manner it's traditionally thought of), now if the canopy comes out of the bag before line stretch....well that's a whole new story. I'm all for my neptune, but it's very important to note that because it's digital and runs on batteries if you don't pay attention you could end up with no alti on a jump. No biggie for me, but be prepared to experience that if you're not diligent and decide to go digital. Every device will have it's pros and cons. See which falls into your need category. Good luck. nice job dude. Never thought to try multiple "linked" cartwheels. That's something I think I'm going to have to practice

No, it'll take you FARTHER in no wind. Brakes into the wind CAN stop your movement over the ground (not to be confused with airspeed) if the winds are strong enough. Whether or not you'll go futher in brakes into the wind depends on the winds strength and your canopies forward speed and glide. Blue skies Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

I used to use site picture before the neptune. I found that my landings were reasonably accurate as long as I stayed at my home dz where I knew the site picture well. I've found that the site picture method doesn't travel well and have seen plenty of good pilots (who use sight alone) dig themselves outta the corner while they're trying to get used to a new landing area. After getting my ass whooped at the Red Bull meet (which was a blast by the way) I spent a serious amount of time chatting to the pilots about staying consistent at various venues. A lot of them wear the watch alti's which they said helps them get dialed in, in new places, faster. So I started using my regular alti, and while not accurate, it was consistent so my landings improved dramatically. Soon after I made the switch to a neptune and have been very happy with the results. While I don't rely on it, it sure does provide a nice quick visual confirmation. As for what I did before. Well, the same thing, only less consistently
