PC8 might be exactly the same size as PC9... not sure Sony has an NTSC model though...
-
thanks Maxwell

OK, let's put it this way: does anyone have any experience with other-than-Breant's Newton cross sights? say the ones listed at paragear?
-
is there much difference between cross sights from Larsen & Brusgaard and Brent Finley's (ex. for the glass covering) to justify $45 price gap, anyone?
-
Edit: Does Sony actualy make a PC8? Yep, it's a PC9 minus memory stick

Was playing with a friend's Rawa yesterday. Things I liked a lot: very comfy, very light, very smart chin cup, cheap, nice option for upside-down camera mount Things I disliked: forget about still camera top mount, platform is way too small Things I seriously disliked: the camera box. They need to put more effort in it. Poor job. It does not look snag proof to me. Taking camera in and out - if you need to do it often - is pain. So, my personal impression: I really liked the helmet, but not it's "camera" part . I won't go for it. It could be a nice cheap fun helmet, though.

An incident to learn from if you're jumping in cold conditions. We were jumping at -25C. A low-timer had a spinning mal. His Z1 visor was completely fogged/frozen, so cause of the mal was unclear. He cut away and pulled silver. He dislogged reserve ring, but did not pull is far enough, so the reserve pin was not released. Because of the frosted visor, he could not see the reserve ring not being pulled completely. Cypress saved his life, and he landed safely with his reserve ring still hanging on the cable. In a separate incident - this time fatal - a week ago at another Russian DZ a low timer died after an extremely low cutaway (around 100meters), reserve did not have time to deploy. Investigation is underway and I do not want to speculate, but one of possible reasons why the poor guy cut away so low was that he could not read altitude because of the frosted visor. Be careful out there.

Planning to jump in Orlando, and considering bringing my own gear from Europe. My national requirement for repacks is 6 months, with next scheduled repack in two months. Will my rig (TSO'd) be jumpable in the US?

Thanks! ...sigh...

Anybody works with this (or any other heavy top mount cam) combo? Any stability issues? Trying to figure out if I should stick to FlatTop or get a pricy custom-made helmet... BS
-
Neither an owner nor purchaser, though have some experience (with a top US team bringing an NTSC cam to a European comp despite FAI rules ). NO, you won't be able to playback on PAL TVset (until it has multy-system support... most of modern European sets has this feature... if not you can plug your cam to a multy-sys videorecorder which may work as a de-coder). Interestingly enough, if you fire-wire your NTSC miniDV to a PAL miniDV, you will be able to copy your NTSC material (you also can play out NTSC video on a PAL miniDV). But even recorded by a PAL cam, video will appear to be recorded in NTSC! Looks like you can get a cam cheaper in the States, but is it worth all the trouble with playback/exchange? Doubt it. BS

It's Sony's ancestor to PD150. Yeah, I know it's pure DVCam and other small drawbacks... Did any of you folks actually jump one? I'm considering it as a cheaper alternative to VX. BS
-
Oh, no indeed ! I've put 150+ jumps filming 4-way in a freefly camera suit. It works pretty fine (and picture is definately judgeble ). But since I plan to do some serious RW filming, I am getting an RW camera suit. Why? I definately feel lack of booties (esp. doing leading exit). Small wings on my suit do not allow me to get as close and steep over formation as bigger wings on RW camera suit would. Booties and bigger wings add LOADS of control, which means - better picture. Experimental russian canopy formed nose on end cells?
FeFe replied to ramon's topic in Gear and Rigging
This one? http://www.zvezda-npp.ru/ppd/prod/golf_r.htm Yes, by specs it's 120f, max recommended loading is something like 1,6. Never saw one in flesh. BS -
Just like Mark said - leave it hanging. I played all kind of tricks with packing Sabre2. Leaving nose outside seemed to work best. Pushing/splitting nose was more likely to result in longer snivels and off-headings. BS

Which one do you use?

Desperately looking for a second-hand Fujifilm GA645W. Not an easy beast to find . Which www-boards for s/h cameras would you recommend (preferably in Europe)? Thanks in advance everyone. BS

May happen to any camera. Clean your heads. Try not to use the same tape for more than 2-3 cycles. Stick to one tape brand. Avoid 80/120 minutes tapes. Video may be recovered if you play it at a hq desk player, but there is no guarantee. Loads of useful info at http://www.zenera.com/reference/dvtape.html BS And yes - stick to Sony !
