When I was younger I had a chance to try ski jumping since I was a very good XC skier. Not off the big hill mind you. Rather a smaller one......much much much smaller! And even though I only flew 40ft (10m) I was impressed at how the air "felt" If I were a different body type I really would have like to have continued but just having strong legs wasn't enough. Our data is regarding SAT scores of girls and their chosen career fields. The data is still "raw" and was collected by North Western University and has yet to be published. But initial evidence seems to indicate that even if a girl is good in math and or science she may not choose engineering or science as a field of study. Oh yeah, bio and chem have lots of girls. While EE and Mech E don't seem to....people are still trying to figure out why. But yeah, it's an over generalization of the facts on the ground to say that engineering girls are "special" but then again the same thing can be said about most male engineers. Like I said, and the there is a lot of anecdotal evidence to back this up, but smart outgoing people don't become engineers. They may start engineering school but by the end of year 1 they switch out. And believe it or not, my current job is to get more kids, specially girls, to consider a job in the fields of engineering and science. And it's not easy. In fact I would say it's the hardest job I have ever had. Because in all these jokes, there is a kernel of truth. The Norwegian drive by is very impressive! To be able to XC ski 10km and then hold a gun steady to take out a target at 100m? Impressive! Shame it's so slow! Engineering girls.....eeeeehhhh......between the inferiority complex and the false sense of superiority....thanks but no thanks! A 7 in the engineering world is a 3 int he business world. To quote one of my friends who was the only other girl in the engineering class "God I miss engineering school, I always had a date on Friday nights, I just pointed at one of the guys and told him when and where to take me. Now that I'm a teacher....I actually have to dress to impress and shave my legs!" Yeah there needs to be more girls in engineering to prevent such over inflated sense of self but......let's face it girls are smart! Why work your ass off for 4 years and only make $45k a year when you can party your brains out get an MBA and make $60? I have two, they are beyond smart! They are evil smart! There is nothing in the house that they can't get to! They want it they will get it! This how smart they are, they don't like the Roomba cleaning or going around their food bowl. So they found a way to sabotage it by feeding it cat toys. We had the equivalent of the CEO do a tour last year and from what I was told by a close friend who works for his office he was rather bemused by the clothing choice of some of her highly paid female professionals.
