I was drinkin a beer at the Sunset watching the formation load land. One guy looked like he bounced, did a cartwheel like PLF then flew back into the air and landed it about 30 ft upwind... The First Annual NorCal FreeFly Festival was a total and complete success, despite some early set backs (a broken water main, a slightly "bruised" CASA - pictures on the SkyDance site soon this AM- and a broken Keg Tap or two) we managed to have a Boogie to beat most Boogies!! There were some great skydives organized by TEAM JANK (thanks so much for all your help guys!) and Roger Ponce put together some really nice RW dives. Hybrids were everywhere and there was simply a great atmosphere for all involved. The weather was about as perfect as you could hope for with clear blue and 72 for most the days. The Film festival was put together perfectly, with some really good progressive stuff that left everyone screaming for more. Look for a bigger and better (is that possible???) film festival next year at the SECOND annual NCFFF. Thanks to Dr. Science himself for mixing and supplying the tunes for the evening, great job! Folks, if you missed this one, you missed out...period. Officially, there were just over 140 registered jumpers on the list. Two cutaways and no injuries later we consumed: 4-kegs of beer 6 bottles of Tequila 2 bottles of Jack 2 bottles of Vodka a bottle of Gin a bottle of Drambui all at the now officially opened "Sunset @ SkyDance" Tiki Bar. Again, thanks for a great weekend! For anyone who wasn't there or didn't hear, I made my first jump back since my injury 4-months ago. There was a butterfly or two on board with me at exit, but it all went beautifully, so thanks to those involved! Thanks guys, we all had a great time. 1 uneventful kid exchange (TG):3:2 First was a solo for myself out of the CASA (BEER), ran out down the plane, tucked and somesaulted out that back, got into a sit turned and watched the tandems exit the plane, pulled about 500 ft lower than normal (boogie rules,) It's definitely strange WAITING TO PULL, it felt like that last 500 feet took forever Being last out and opening lower, I was way past the barnfield instead. 2nd and 3rd jumps were 4 way RW, we launched compressed accordians (BEER) out the back of the Casa which was totally awesome. Leap frog didn't go that well from fall rate issues and a nasty spin on the first jump and we did 3 points on the second jump. Had a beer at the new bar they just built at the DZ (actually, I had to buy a $4 sammich to get a free beer, Neal the salesman), watched the last load land (45 people, 2 planes) and the beautiful sunset... Question: Is the factory inspection mandatory? For example, Cypri are required to be pulled out if they are past the maintenance time frame. A rigger will not leave a cypres in if it's out of date. Would the same hold true for a PD reserve? Can a rigger legally repack it if it's passed a 20 repack cycle? I promise not to TP Davis under canopy.. and if it doesn't have it, the cost for SB1221 is about $35 or so. My reserve needed it when I bought it and the seller discounted that from the price.
