Stimulus "Loophole" Gives 300,000 Jobs to Illegals

the answer is to increase the minimum wage to a level where us workers are willing to do the dirty work again -
exactly! employers, rather than treating staff as mcworkers to be underpaid, and disposed of and thus used unproductively, realise, with an increase in the minimum wage, the real value of their workers to the business and treat them accordingly - by making them more productive. (i think mr henry ford tried this a while back) anyone who doesn't realise that real economic wealth is only achieved through greater worker productivity is living in lala land. stay away from moving propellers - they bite blue skies from thai sky adventures good solid response-provoking keyboarding

how old were you and who's was the store? i ask because i grew up on a small dairy farm (120 acres) and did all the usual farmwork that was needed to be done and was paid very little. later i had a paper round and was paid very little. when i started work at headcorn parachute centre as a trainee instructor in the early eighties i was paid $60 and accommodation - a small room in a row of converted pigsties known as 'skid row'. and fifty cents in today's money would be about $4? stay away from moving propellers - they bite blue skies from thai sky adventures good solid response-provoking keyboarding

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minimum_wage Am I reading this wrong or is this saying raising the minimum wage hurts not helps. Less hiring, less hours/less money and raising prices. dreamdancer, I thought you were in favor of an increase in minimum wage but your post seems to counter that. Or am missing something and not reading this correctly. employers reduce their rate of hiring - so they're still hiring staff hours reduced - brilliant; same wages less work - more time to go out and start up your own business prices increased - not always good but not bad when reflation is wanted more productive workers - wow! how an economy actually grows (without all the financial thievery) now if only the minimum wage had been allowed to grow to a sensible level then even more productivity would have been achieved. instead employers just sucked in cheap migrant labour from eastern europe (and mexico in the case of the usa) because it was the easier thing to do. stay away from moving propellers - they bite blue skies from thai sky adventures good solid response-provoking keyboarding

obviously not doubled in one go - how about a dollar extra a year for a decade? giving the economy plenty of time to absorb and adapt to the changes and also giving the working classes a bit of traction to drag themselves out of this depression. i think historically the minimum wage has been about half the average wage but dropped to about a third. stay away from moving propellers - they bite blue skies from thai sky adventures good solid response-provoking keyboarding

Who's the Real Radical? When people hear the word "conservative," they think it means something safe and tested that "conserves" established ways of doing things. That's what it means in dictionaries, after all. Maybe we should rewrite the dictionaries. I cannot emphasize enough that the health care proposals being pushed by today's "conservatives" will radically change the way we all receive health care. Their ideas are completely untried anywhere in the world. And I say their theories have holes you could drive an ambulance through. On the other hand, what Obama wants to do is leave alone what parts of the health care system are working and only change the parts that aren't working. People who are happy with their insurance coverage now will not have to change, he says. If anything, some argue, that approach is too conservative, because the system needs a complete top-to-bottom overhaul. Many people would like to scrap the private insurance industry entirely and go to a single-payer system, in which health care costs are paid from a single government fund. If incremental changes don't work, we may get to that eventually. However, the Obama administration has declared that approach off the table, for now. And, of course, the eventual details of the plan will be up to Congress. We don't yet know what those details will be. My fear is not that Democrats in Congress will come up with a plan that's too radical. Rather, I'm afraid they'll be too cautious, and millions will remain uninsured, while the premiums of others will remain ruinously high. We'll see. Just understand that, right now, the real radicals are the "conservatives," and the real conservatives are being called "radicals." Don't be fooled by the labels. http://www.alternet.org/blogs/peek/130677/why_conservatives_are_radical_on_health_care/#more stay away from moving propellers - they bite blue skies from thai sky adventures good solid response-provoking keyboarding

money is taxed when you earn it, spend it, bank it - the same dollar goes round and round the economy and is taxed over and over again - inheritance tax is no different from any other tax in that respect. i think it is the fairest tax as the person getting taxed is gone, dead, shuffled off this mortal coil etc... stay away from moving propellers - they bite blue skies from thai sky adventures good solid response-provoking keyboarding
