  1. The police officer caught on film attacking Ian Tomlinson during the G20 protests could face manslaughter charges after a second postmortem concluded that the newspaper vendor died from internal bleeding and not a heart attack. The dramatic new evidence, made public yesterday, provoked an immediate response from the victim's family, who said that they had been "badly misled" by police. It emerged last night that the Metropolitan police officer who had been suspended from duty has now been interviewed under caution on suspicion of manslaughter by investigators from the Independent Police Complaints Commission. Yesterday's developments came 10 days after the Guardian first revealed footage of Tomlinson being struck and pushed to the ground minutes before he collapsed and died in the City of London. The New York fund manager who handed the Guardian the video evidence said last night that he felt vindicated by the findings. "Now I'm glad I came forward. It's possible Mr Tomlinson's death would have been swept under the rug otherwise. You needed something incontrovertible. In this case it was the video." Tomlinson, a 47-year-old newspaper vendor, had been attempting to walk home from work the when he collapsed and died around 7.25pm on 1 April. Moments earlier he had been attacked from behind by a constable from the Met's territorial support group near the Bank of England. http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2009/apr/18/g20-ian-tomlinson-death stay away from moving propellers - they bite blue skies from thai sky adventures good solid response-provoking keyboarding

  6. but not the tall tales of miracles and the dead coming to life
  7. history has shown that the chance of a conflict was zero - wouldn't you agree
  8. I have no doubt there is some truth to some parts of the Bible. I have HUGE doubts about what is said at the beginning and ending. there is little doubt that the bible is just a lot of tall tales and old myths What about the books of Kings & the books of Chronicles? These books aren't trying to sell anything, but mostly contain a dry grocery list of the succession of kings in Judah and Israel. Do you think that was all made up too? Or is it more reasonable to believe that a literate society would keep a written list of their kings? a dodgy list of ancient rulers of a minor kingdom - i'm impressed - not

  10. Not completely. Religion plays an important social role--I believe that all religions are primarily social groups, although some religions play up this side of things and others downplay the importance of social interactions. By observing their parents interacting socially in their church/synagogue/temple/mosque/etc of choice, children learn about adult social interactions and how their parents see themselves in relationship to other adults and members of the community. Religion is often the only social network to provide this opportunity. School is only for children so there are no good (or bad) role models for appropriate adult social behavior. Work is only for adults so the children never see their parents in that environment. Religion bridges the gap between adults and children in the community and plays an important role that isn't always easy to find elsewhere. if the parents are part of a cult it is very hard to extricate the children from their delusional beliefs. church/synagogue/temple/mosques are not healthy places for children (they have no choice about being there). religion should be for adults only
  11. your link doesn't say what you think it says
  12. fine - let's delete the terms marriage and civil unions completely and define new terms "mgomfrock" - this now applies to private ceremonies and the various religions can use it or come up with their own terms and let's define the term "D'hummmm'it'lsnak" and that will be exclusively used by the government to be used as an acknowledged partnershipping agreement between two or more adults to apply a limited list of assumed benefits such as common property requirements, hospital visitations, etc.... now we can all be happy and keep the stupid semantics out of it it's stupid semantics to invent a new word (two new words even) when the one, original word will do - marriage
  13. except that there were marriages long before religion came along - marriage is not a religious concept
  14. Here is a bit more information: Israel celebrates blessing of the sun Clouds may cast shadow on rare Jewish blessing of the sun A cult? More than half the world's population has at least a cultural connection to Judaism or one of its descendant religions (Christianity, Islam, etc). If Judaism is a cult then everything is a cult. Today was an event seen only two or three times in the whole history of Judaism--which is to say the whole history of Western organized religion. But I'm still curious to know what December 21, 2012 is going to be like! it's going to rain that day
