  1. I would say the membership should demand this on every vote. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  2. It is a "Throwback" rig. It's the traditional Javelin that so many of their long time customers wanted and were used to, but with updates. Few options, just the rig. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  3. As long as we're venting..... Sit your ass up in the airplane, stop taking up the room of two people, resting on the jumper or student next to/behind you, and keep your hands off my gear. Stop bringing your kids to the DZ, and leaving them unattended while your ass goes off and makes jumps. We're not your daycare service. Quit kiting your canopy in the landing area. You're gonna kill someone. Put your empty beer bottles in the trash can. We're tired of "policing the hanger" every morning so the tandem students don't think we're drunks. Quit smoking in the loading area..... flame on.... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  4. And if it had entangled with the bridle, it's still very likely that you would have had a reserve deployment. Thats one of the reasons for the free bag system. There is no way you're going to be able to affect any change on an main reserve entanglement when you've already cut away the main. 2 out is a much more manageable situation. To really simplify it, more square footage is better than less. From a standpoint of time it will take you about 2 seconds to locate grab and extract a breakaway handle if you've practiced you handle locations regularly. That's 400 ft of altitude lost in freefall. now add another second, to second and a half to locate and pull the reserve handle, plus 3 seconds for a reserve inflation. Thats 5 to 6 seconds or more, assuming your hand didn't slip off the breakaway handle, you were able to find it, you remembered to "peel, then punch" through the velcro, you located and pulled your reserve handle without trouble, and your pilot chute launched cleanly. I think you did the right thing. Job well done. I assume you'd go straight to reserve if you were unable to locate your main handle? In that case how is this different? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  5. Pencil Skirt. The sweats at $210 are just plain retarded. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  6. ***How many tunnels have you flown at? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  7. Having used a direct control system on a Tandem system I can tell you that it is entirely possible and likely even that it can render the slider aerodynamiically ineffectual. The opening that results is painful. I believe the idea of direct control is being misunderstood. It does help keep the slider in position on a freepacked canopy, something that is not needed on a sport skydiving rig. The need to stage the slider sequence on a freepacked canopy is more a function of promoting an orderly deployment of the lines (i.e. preventing a line over) rather then a need to soften the openings. On a sport rig all that needs to be done is taking care to keep the slider in position before bagging the parachute. Using a direct control system would only be bubble gum and bailing wire solution to answer poor packing technique. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. 8. You're right. I think the standard ought to be changed. Upwards. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  9. As the OP, I'll point out I did leave it open to interpretation. And yeah I've never botched one of those either.... [avoiding lightning strike] ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  10. Or maybe the "donut" is a totally unnecessary and highly expensive procedure for simple pneumonia and it was simply a greedy hospital administration trying to pad the bill rather than simply shoot a chest film and put you on a regiment of antibiotics. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  11. You sure have that right ! I have read the last few pages thinking, "Geez, those instructors sure have to put up with a lot. Not only do they have to care for and be responsible for their students, they have to put up with the whiney, bitchey ones like this, who think their ass should float to the plane on a silk pillow with the AFF-Is blowing them kisses all the way. Get the fuck over yourself and realize what activity you're doing. Maybe you should take up bowling with a team of soft, happy bunnies. Kevin Keenan Where is the "like button"? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  12. On two out of 14 skyhook equipped reserve rides I've had, the skyhook failed to function as intended resulting in a standard reserve deployment. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  13. [Cue Plot re-cycle for the 19,543rd time].....fade from black......"As the Prop Turns" begins in 5...4...3....2............. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  14. I think what you're missing here is that when 20 to 30,000 jumps and 20 to 30 years of combined experience tells you they think something is a poor idea, that it might actually be a poor idea. When you spout off and tell them they are wrong, don't be surprised when they tell you to pound sand. That said, this mount IS better than the last, but still not something I'd recommend you jump. It has a high risk snag area if you were to catch a line or riser under it. Buy a second helmet and fiberglass that thing in. Or don't. You won't listen. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  15. Amen. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  16. So who's got the stingers? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  17. Nope, just seems to be you. That also seems to be a truism. When people use the term people to describe everyone not present, the usually as just mapping their own opinion upon everyone else in the world. Or at least the ones they don't think they agree with. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  18. Have you honestly never notice the how in disasters there is always an element trying to capitalize off the weak, and helpless? Katrina was a huge example of this, but it has happened in every major disaster in history. There is nothing wrong with wanting to protect what you need to survive from those who might try to take it from you. It's being prepared, not paranoid. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  19. I haven't found very many situations where it's a benefit, and the fabric does distort far more than a "square" zp material thus causing reduced performance. Most people will probably not notice it but..... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  20. Remind me of that the next time there is a Katrina type event in your neighborhood. To many people seriously believe in the stability of the systems they use daily. Ask your self how would I cope without water or electricity for 5 days. If you're answer involves relying on anyone but yourself, you should see that as a problem and address it. Or don't. I'll be ok either way. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  21. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  22. What?! ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  23. There's more to it than that. This society has changed, and it seems as if people need to fill their conversation with meaningless fluff. They seem to need a simple answer to be complex, and justification that they are "ok" and "accepted". Where as a "yes" or "no", used to suffice, now a person is offended if a lengthy dialogue answering all the questions they didn't ask is not forth coming. I think the art of listening has died. It's now socially acceptable for a person to ask a question, ignore the reply and then proceed to tell the questonee what they think the answer is. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  24. +1 When I was starting out, I don't remember any skygod assholes, but then I listened more than I spoke, I tried to learn, I thanked people for sharing their experience, and I didn't act like a know it all. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  25. Why are you getting ZPX? Other than reduced pack volume it's a pretty poor choice for a parachute. If you don't need the reduced pack volume, you will get a better product with standard ZP. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
