  1. Been with them since 2004, and no problems that they didn't handle. Only once when they were Cingular did I have to escalate an issue up a couple chains of management and I ended up getting what I needed. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  2. How far as an instructor do you go to make sure your graduates understand the consequences of skydiving? In this day of people believing there is a safety net for everything, what do you feel is your responsibility to impart. Do you believe that there is a requirement to make sure that your students understand that their actions or inactions could cause their death, or serious injury? Or even the fact that sometimes thing just plain go wrong? I know it's part of the waiver, but do you feel it's part of what should be understood before you stamp that A license card? What say you? And if you so desire, share some of the techniques you use to get the point home. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  3. It was less tongue in cheek than you think, but then my views are pretty Machiavellian. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  4. Take it from someone who has had 26 malfunctions requiring a breakaway, the first of which was on my #26th jump when I was still wet behind the ears, that if you drill in the harness, your head, and touch your handles in the order they should be used on a regular basis in the airplane then you'll do just fine when the real thing happens. In fact you will probably be over and done with the procedure before you know it. :-) ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  5. Overpopulation. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  6. They do that. Every time. Without fail. I've seen it. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  7. So, what was the judge's score for the gymnastics portion of the routine? Ever get rotated into the pond from collapsing your canopy on a gate so hard that it breaks two neptunes and bends your pop-top? It's like the pond hit me with a taser! "Don't Tase me Bro!" ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  8. Tunnels simulate freefall pretty well. Most malfunctions don't happen in freefall. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  9. These guys ave some of the most compelling evidence so far.... http://tighar.org/ ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  10. 79 pre planed on a 3 canopy system. 25 for real. 1 Total. And my packers always hate me. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  11. I'll put my 79 chops against your anecdotes any day. See I've actually done real world testing to see if my theories are correct. There are 3 reasons to not jump an RSL. Cameras, CRW, and ego. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  12. How slack does the rig fit them? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  13. The logic that RSL's are causing these twists is flawed. Even in a spinning malfunction where the jumper is back to earth, once they breakaway they are slung in a strait line outward on the plane that they were rotating on, leaving them with NO SPIN. This means the airflow is from feet to head and provides THE BEST OPPORTUNITY for a clean reserve deployment. RSL's DO NOT produce line twists. There is no physical mechanism for them to do so. Persons attempting to get belly to earth while the reserve is deploying cause line twists. People flailing around while performing a breakaway cause line twists. The numbers don't lie. for the past 30 years an average of 6 to 8 people go in from a breakaway to no/low pull situation. In 30 years there haven't been but 1 or 2 reliable accounts of someone dying from the use of a traditional single riser RSL. Do the math people. Thanks for starting the thread Kelly. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  14. http://www.moldex.com/hearing-protection/foam-earplugs/sparkplugs.php Thanks! Do you wear them while in freefall? If so, did you notice any change when it comes to pressure equalisation? Yes, and no in that order. :-) ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  15. +1 ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  16. Can you provide model name and brand name of these ear plugs? http://www.moldex.com/hearing-protection/foam-earplugs/sparkplugs.php ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  17. Sounds like a whole bunch of fun. I'm an amateur shooter but I'll give it a go....
  18. Someone at HQ who really gets it. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  19. I use the single highest rated (33db) disposable earplug I can find. I started wearing them as a tunnel instructor but also because I noticed hearing loss and ringing from 4 years of skydiving. Now after 12 years, I won't fly or jump without them. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  20. Wow, is this a record? Only one reply needed to invoke Godwins law? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  21. No, I don't believe that's correct. You may want to check your information on this one mate. Different line types come in different sizes. Yeah I know that a 750 line is going to be thicker than a 500 line, but I thought the Spectra line in general due to being somewhat stronger is also slightly thinner than Vectran, but I could be wrong. Downsides to Spectra is that it is less springy/forgiving on openings and doesn't hold trim as well. I think my general statement it true, but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Not true in any sense. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  22. The courts are not always right. Why is his right to be a father to be denied? Because his body and life won't have to suffer 9 months of pregnancy. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  23. Go to a shooting club with a skeet, trap, or sporting clays range and ask if they have "reclaimed shot". It will be of mixed sizes but it will also be about 1/3rd the cost. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  24. While I have an AR which I built just for the challenge, I'm at a loss to know what is specific to being a good 3 gun AR. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  25. 1) Many DZs are forced to limit the weight of persons doing solo student jumps because of the gear they use. Much of the student gear around has a max limit of 250lbs all up, and that number must include the weight of the gear thus why they pick a limit of 230lbs. Some more modern container and reserve systems have been TSO'd (approved) with a new standard and a higher maximum rating of 300lbs all up. I know Skydive Spaceland near Houston uses such gear because I work here. 2)We prefer a Tandem Progression as it gives a couple one on one jumps with the student to workout initial fears and problems. An advantage is that it costs the student less most of the time as we train with a one instructor program, rather than the two used in traditional AFF. We don't offer static line as it's just not popular enough to support. 3) It's ok to just jump. :-) ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
