Having visited Z Hills and Deland in the last week, I'm gonna suggest Z Hills. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

There shouldn't be any such limit. It should ALWAYS be a determination of the inspecting and packing rigger to determine airworthiness. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Wanting to start over or quit altogether
diablopilot replied to guppykf's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Nothing wrong with always considering yourself a student. I still do. You make it down Texas way, I'll spend a week with ya to help you learn some of the finer points. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
RSk 1 container, will it take a 126pd reserve.
diablopilot replied to spencer's topic in Gear and Rigging
If the manufacturer says no, you should too. Just because you can cram it in there, doesn't mean it's safe. It's the exact sort of situation that can produce container locks. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
Respect, and pay. If the industry really wants professionals, they will make it a livable profession. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Porter with -27: $750,000 Caravan well used: $800,000 PAC: $1.3+ U206: $90,000 Used PT6-20: $100,000 It could be just what a small DZ that does a lot of tandems needs. Single engine, low fuel burn, low insurance, smaller loan. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

It was not an effective fix. The FAA states that an AAD may not negatively affect the normal operation of the reserve system. Even the designer of the Cypres AAD admits there is an expected failure rate of cutters of ANY designe. This means it is NEVER acceptable to place the cutter in a location that could render the system inoperable if there is a cutter failure. Period. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
-
Exactly that. The solution (moving the cutter above the P/C) was a band aid fix to a problem it should have never been asked to handle. The rig geometries and canopy combinations were the problem, compounded with incorrect rigging, which all should be addressed. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Eh, what could possibly go wrong?

Daft question (hey shoot me)
diablopilot replied to shropshire's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
have done it quite a few times, but probably the funniest reaction to it I've had happened a couple of years ago. The DZ I was working for offered both 9,000 and 13,000 foot tandem jumps so occasionally we would have mixed loads. I was doing a 9,000 foot tandem on just such a load, and the rest of the load was just to fun jumpers going up to 13,000. Naturally with only 6 people onboard a PAC 750 we were stretched out and lounging pretty good. As I'm headed for the door one of the jumpers calls out "Yeah, and make sure you close the door on the way out." in a smart assed joking sort of way. Judging by his 100 jumps and 6 months experience I figured he'd never seen that before. From the PAC I do seated tandem exits, so on my way out I grabbed the door and pulled it down behind me as I left. The fun jumper came to me afterwards wide eyed and incredulous. :-) ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -

Setting landing direction (was: Perris double fatality)
diablopilot replied to Deisel's topic in Safety and Training
Tell that to the tandem student I have to land down wind in 10 to 15 because the winds shifted and you couldn't figure out how to read and adapt to a landing pattern from 1000 feet above it. You really should learn how to be a skydiver before you advise us on how to do this thing. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
SIX MONTHS?! Ya know HOW MANY fuck fests you missed?? Yes but how many real world fuck fests is he responsible for in the last 6 months. Priorities man, priorities. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Setting landing direction (was: Perris double fatality)
diablopilot replied to Deisel's topic in Safety and Training
Not all aircraft are required to or use radios. Not all aircraft have engines or can go around. It's ego and denial that have people ignore rules and procedures that have been working for 50+ years. People see a problem and too often want to find a new solution rather than to see the problem it's self is old and has been answered. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. PD Optimum Reserve - Opens softer. Is it slower?
diablopilot replied to pnuwin's topic in Gear and Rigging
Why should you get to decide how I skydive? Maybe you can't think of a good reason to open your parachute at 2000 feet but others of us can. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
Setting landing direction (was: Perris double fatality)
diablopilot replied to Deisel's topic in Safety and Training
And you guys who are anti FMD don't get it. Picking the landing direction PRIOR to take off is just "nerfing" the sport one more time. If jumpers are unable to read a pattern PRIOR to the first man actually touching town then they have not shown the ability to skydive safely by themselves and should not have an A license issued. Think of the pilot of an airplane. How does he decide which way he's going to land his airplane? He reads the winds, and looks for the airplane ahead of him in the pattern. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
And the ATF and some states have then put a restriction on owning said M-16. Sad, eh? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

From the other side of things, I find it to be a turn off when a woman tells me she's not into having kids but in reality I know it's just her saying what she thinks I want to hear. No lies. It's the ONLY policy. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

+1 to that. Whoa.... I'm getting dizzy. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
