It's been posted, but it's a perfect example to show, and it's why I don't wear mine on my helmet for AFF. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

I think that's where the DZO/rigger misrouted the reserve closing loop (outside the Cypres cutter) and a student went in with a fired Cypres and a closed reserve container. The DZO might have pulled a gun on a jumper in the aftermath. The whole thing seems like a moot point because if it is that DZ, the DZO closed up shop not long after the fatality. I can't imagine a mistake - however egregious - resulting in removal from USPA. More details???? You're right. A DZ can have punitive action by the FAA enforced documented and the USPA BOD STILL won't pull a membership. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. I would have said ok, let me show you how to land this thing. :-) ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 carat Diamond

I'm amazed by it's orbit. I wonder what kind of gravitational/tidal forces you'd see there.... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
Why are new students so resistant to focusing on becoming proficient on their own? Why are new instructors so resistant on making sure they are able to teach properly, and ensure that student meet the requirements no matter how many times they have to repeat a dive? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Time for a compulsory civic service scheme
diablopilot replied to dreamdancer's topic in Speakers Corner
I'm in favor of something like that here. How about a years service with a nominal wage paid in order to earn your franchise. In that way it's voluntary, but encouraged. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
As soon as the record event here in the USA is over (no joke) And people ask why I don't fly wingsuits anymore. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

How not to be the "problem student?" in AFF
diablopilot replied to Namowal's topic in Safety and Training
1st secret to skydiving. It's not that much of a physical game at the beginning. It's a head game. So practice, prepare, and relax. Make sure you visualize. Practice your dive flows till you have them down cold. Then practice them again. That breeds confidence and that is what will make you a successful student. 2nd, your goal in the student program ISN'T to be the greatest skydiver, it's to show that you can safely do it without the need of an instructor. So if your back flips are not perfect, or your turns are sloppy don't let that stress you. You have the rest of time to get good at it. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
The 1st day of the Oshkosh demo A bunch of the guys jumped with a sock in their helmet in honor of Dennis. Miss ya ole man!! As did just about every instructor here at Spaceland yesterday. :-) ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

John, is it that the cutters violate the doctrine, or the specific placement of them in the reserve system violates the doctrine? (i.e. above or below the reserve.) ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

It was pioneers in the old days that had to jump with the door off, if they hadnt the sport might not be where its at today. So please show some respect and thank them that you are allowed to skydive. An open door is not a major issue And the pioneers jumped with B-4 containers and chest mount reserves. They had to, it was not by choice. Taking with the door open can be a big deal. Operating with the door off/open changes the allowable VNE speeds as well as maneuvering speed. Placards must be in place to indicate what these speeds are. It can affect the aircrafts ability to reach V2 and V2min. causing a safety concern on shorter runways. To take off with the door open is just not the smart thing to do. Sparky At least you’re consistent. you are missing the point entirely.... skydiving is not a safe sport. if you want something safe to do take up golfing or ping pong! Be sure to let me know when you start skydiving. I'm REAL interested in that. :-| ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Ever stop to think WHY Bill can offer $15 jumps? I'd rather jump aircraft that are maintained. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

When you see me getting very small as I track way, that's your signal to break off. Seriously, I never leave skydives late. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Stop the preachin', start the teaching...
diablopilot replied to JerseyShawn's topic in Safety and Training
You miss the first part of my post? I've got no problem sharing the knowledge freely, I do have a problem with people not wanting to listen because they don't like what they hear, but then berating you for not being helpful. Example: Novice, can I jump this Velo? Me: you're not ready, so how about I show you what you can do to prepare on your current canopy. Novice: You're an asshole, you just want to hold me back! Novice: Can you show me how to head down? Me: You're not ready yet, but lets show you some valuable relative work skills that will translate to freeflying. Novice: You're an asshole, you just want to hold me back! That attitude is why "coaches" (often those that have no instructional rating nor any instructional experience) can get away with charging $60 a jump. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. I recommend adding verbiage to your work order that states a storage fee, AND reminds them there is no grace period for repack dates. I've seriously had to deal with skydivers who drop off for a repack, leave their rigs in a loft all winter, and when they pick them up in the spring can't figure out why they either only have a month or two till it's due or they have been charged for a second repack. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Stop the preachin', start the teaching...

Preachin' is free, and if listened to and received well, often teaches lessons for free. Teaching costs money. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
theres video! One happened mid fomation after point 1 was built, the other as he turned to track off... Can you say 'pin check'? The first was before point 1 was complete. Well yeah, how was point 1 supposed to complete is someone was missing. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

I don't usually do this, but +1 on just about everything you said there. :-) ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Ain't that just the truth of the matter. How sad. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

I'll be a part of that upsizing trend. I just bought a parachute 30 sq feet bigger than I've been jumping on a regular basis. :-) ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
-
The difference was A) as you pointed out you didn't have seatbelts, and B) Skydivers were much smarter then. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Depends. Do I have to secure myself to the aircraft? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

At least your head is screwed on straight. I wouldn't get on the airplane if they allow that. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
