  1. Or as Douglas Adams says in The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy "The knack of flying is to throw youreslf at the ground and miss." ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  2. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2892015#2892015 ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  3. I cannot deffend Bill for breaking the rules. He did, and I can understand why the CSPA distanced themselves from him for protective reasons. It is my impression however that Bill had a heck of alot more experience as a skydiver at the time. Add to that, Bill did his stunt in a time where to be a skydiver of any skill, one had to be much more involved with the sport than today, and in the process become both more knowlageable and skilled than required today. In short, there were no "part time" skydivers. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  4. I'm not special, but I am going to take issue when someone with little experience calls my credibility into question. I DO have the experience to back up the informed opinions I have. DO you? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  5. Most of the Stunt Junkies episodes didn't involve busting FAR's or low time jumpers. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  6. You don't know why the Tandem fatality happened or you choose not to hear the reason? http://www.dropzone.com/fatalities/Detailed/139.shtml ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  7. Skydivers, skydiving, and skydiving aviation are not respected in a great part of both GA and Commercial aviation., mostly as a result of ignorance, and myth. Jump pilots are a special breed, we should make sure they always feel welcome, jumpers or not. And I'd advise people do what the can to calmly dis-prove myth, and explain skydiving to those non-skydiving pilots that seem interested. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  8. Spoken like someone who has never taught anyone how to skydive. Or seen another die in person. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  9. Which is why I make it my rule to only "Medium Pimp." ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  10. I'm pretty sure that was Troy Hartman's stunt. Who BTW is a PROFESIONAL. Why? Because he has the experience to back it up. Yep. Several people did smaller scale (50 jumps in a day, 75 jumps in a day) fund raisers not long afer jumping on the success of Jay's record. The Grand Canyon? No. Most can afford a 182 to fly out there for them, but we do see it's effects on the DZ. Low time swoopers getting into swooping objects, the rash of GL injuries. Maybe not a 39 but 20 jump winsuit pilots assuming they can do it with Tandems. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  11. "Extreme experience" does not always translate. In fact it rarely translates. Being to comfortable with the effects of adrenilin can often lead a person to under estimate danger. Travis obviously did well on the stunt, or we would be reading a much different thread right now, but the overall stunt and the skydiving experience he brought to the table sets a poor example. Some of the worlds best have died doing "stunts". ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  12. Dude, you wouldn't get it with a flashlight, mirror, and a week alone in a small windowless room, so I'm just not gonna bother anymore..... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  13. Credibility? Please, I am tired of hearing how it should be done from 10 minute wonders in this sport. I have spent YEARS of my life spending every minute of a day on the DZ, seen all that can go wrong and then some, carried more broken, and mangled people off the DZ, held the loved ones of those that didn't make it. I have made it my job to train people to be successful and safe skydivers, only to have yahoos the likes of you tell them "It's ok, you're better than everyone else, go ahead." 200 jumps is NOTHING. It's 6 months in the sport now. 200 Jumps meant something when it took YEARS of being at the DZ, becoming part of the community, and learning from the mistakes others made, before you make them yourself. 500 jumps is a glimmer of what you've gotten yourself into. Why is it I keep hearing the same bullshit from Utah/New Mexico/Colorado jumpers? Why do the old salts all travel elsewhere to jump now? Why have I heard more than one incident of a low time jumper from that region fucking them selves because they were "too goods" for the minimums? Where is your instructional rating? What makes you so sure you know how to advise someone as to what they are qualified for, or decide who is good enough to exceed the standards? When was the last time you felt another human's last heart beat, or heard them take their last breath? STFU now, check your Gucci attitude, and think just a little more before you question the credibility of jumpers that have put in the effort to further safety in this glorious sport. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  14. Because it sets a poor example for skydivers. AT 250 jumps no manufacturer, nor does the USPA recommend he jump with tandems period. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  15. It's a great drive. Good Burrito place in Big Sur, I higly recommend stoping and enjoung your lunch while sitting in the chairs in the middle of the stream nearby. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  16. You did. It still hurt's like a son-of-a-bitch. Keep Indy close, that'll help. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  17. I wouldn't be so sure about that. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  18. First, geting hired by a regional does mean that you might be flying pax around in IMC, but that's with a higher time experienced captian in the right seat to help out when everything starts going wrong. Second, you could fly a jump plane with much less than 1000 hours, however the opperator is going to have to pay a whole lot more in insurance, are you worth it? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  19. Travis is a professional stunt man. Amongst his many talents, he's a skydiver with over 250 skydives under a parachute. He learned to skydive at Skydive Utah, and trained there for his famous motorcycle jump from the Hell Hole Bend portion of the eastern Grand Canyon. Having seen him in the air (with a rig on) the kid is a talented skydiver. It's not like he woke up one morning and decided to jump chuteless; he's been skydiving for five years. His ESPN book talks about skydiving as well, and the book was finished at least a year ago. Given the "why" he did it, (unless he violated a ruling by the FAA after he told them what he was going to do), I don't see the problem with it. Don't know Travis personaly and can't comment on his skills, but he is setting a pretty poor example for other skydivers. 250 jumps pretty much prepares you for squat these days. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. 22. Dang. I wanna come play....but can't get away on short notice......maybe next time. I think I'll go cry now............ Good to have seen ya in MOAB Amy. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  23. Professional what? We recently proved that being good at one thing does not immediately make you good at another. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
