  1. DO you have a Kinkos anywhere near you? Fed Ex and Kinkos are one now, and I've used a Kinkos as a pick up location when I had no other choice. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  2. Oh, and Colon, the CRW guys are still having fun. I bought myself one of those ugly rigs this year....we'll see if I got the stones to jump with them!
  3. No it's not possible. Freefly had de-evolved into something that RW has. It's either super precise flying that takes years to acheive (4way VRW or FS) or it's noobs paying big dollars to "experts" to learn how. A few years back we were "flocking" at my old home DZ. Going out and flying in groups having fun and goofing off (safely). Then I move down south to a big name DZ, and when I try to generate some interest in having the same sort of fun I get a bunch of rhetoric about how that's been defined already as "Atmonauti". So I choke that nugget down and when we got to play, all of a sudden it's "you guys are doing wrong". Fuck that I say. I'm will Colon on this one. Get out there and try some new shit. Have some fun. Bring back the pick up ways (safely). And when someone tells you you're not doing it right, ask them when they invented the sport. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  4. Can you fit CTL+ALT+DEL on a steering yoke? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  5. If it was film, then it's not a video camera. Video is an electronic format. Cool gift! ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  6. Hundreds of thousands of automobile fatalities in the USA and you don't want a little inconvenience in your life. Thousands of GA Aviation fatalities in the USA and you don't want a little inconvenience in your life. Hundreds of skydiving fatalities in the USA and you don't want a little inconvenience in your life. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  7. Ya, it is. But, when all things are taken into consideration, the "trend" as you put it, does not support your assertions. Not my assertions, the analysis came from Harvard. On the whole I find them more believable than you, especially when I have looked at the raw data they use and find it consistent with the UCR. Well don't feel bad, anyone can make a mistake. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  8. She's also got 3years in and has probably seen this more times than you. Sounds like YOU have the problem of finding a phone number and have failed to clearly ask for that information then have become salty when no one jumped forth and handed the answer to you on a platter. Have fun with that. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  9. Yes. But I had instructors that were willing to let me walk away rather than fool me into a false sense of safety. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  10. I think you've assumed something. I did not state that the wing "slices through turbulence better" simply because it's loaded. What DOES occur is there is an improvement to how a canopy responds to the effects of turbulence at higher loadings. Case in point. The SAME canopy at a 1.1 lading and a 1.6 loading, or to put it another way me flying a 330 square foot tandem with 350lbs or 550lbs suspended weight. With no change in experience level the canopy respons to turbulence in different ways. The collapses are larger with a lighter loading, and recover slower thus producing a more violent reaction to turbulence or wind shear. A heavier loading and thus a heavier internal pressure and ram effect help keep the effects of turbulence less. I think your interpretation has to do with the speed of the canopy. Small loaded canopies are fast, so people assume that they "slice" through the air. Aircraft flying at higher speeds are more suspect to the destructive effects of turbulence and wind shear, but if you increase the gross weight they are less susceptible. This is a problem for aircraft in that with higher gross weights at higher speeds a pilot can increase the load factor beyond the airframe's stress points. Hence maneuvering speeds. Parachutes don't encounter this problem in flight. A collapse is in essence a stall through a portion of the wing. So in addition to a heavier loading mitigating the effects of that stall through re-inflating faster, the increased inertial of the suspended weight helps to prevent the stall from occurring in the first place as the canopy is less likely to encounter the critical angle of attack. This is also why full flight is preferred over braked flight. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

  12. It's officially the strangest airplane I've ever seen. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  13. "Slack Valley is that-ta-away." "Don't fuck up." "if you're gonna go low, take someone with ya." DZO/Jump pilot as the exit is called "Sorry guys, didn't quite get to 13,000, so you have my permission to make up the freefall on the bottom end." "That guy's not even stable!" Newer jumper after seeing my video of Craig G. taking a dock on a 30+ way in a solid knee fly. "Look ma, the airplane is pooping people!" Wuffo 6 year old. "It wasn't us, honest." Anonymous, the morning after the Boogie Party. "Who's that guy think he is? King of the geeks?" Dan Smith, after hearing another jumper tell a group how things were going to be done, since he had won a gold medal at Nationals. "What the fuck was THAT?" Me after narrowly escaping being caught up in an 80 way funnel on a 120 way attempt. "FUCK!" Me as main side JM after getting punched in the face by an AFF student deploying their pilotchute.
  14. Brad is a great guy! He took that like a champ, and it sure motivated me too! ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  15. Talk about a rock and a hard place. Missouri, or the I.E.? Wouldn't want to have to choose either. Dunno what you're looking for in a School but the Central Coast is BEE-A-U-TEE-full, and UCSB and Cal Poly can be found here. Plus it's not to far of a drive when you MUST visit the IE. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  16. Try thinking along the lines of having multiple batteries, and always starting each jump with a fresh one. Having your battery kick out on you in the middle of a paid video jump is the definition of unprofessional. Same goes for your video camera. Some guys will brag about how many jumps they can squeeze out of a battery, but all their doing is risking the customers footage by being lazy. Exactly. IMO, if you're any kind of a professional using any kind of battery-operated device, you should have a minimum of two batts for the device, and preferably 3. If you're using a flash with rechargeables, then at least one fresh set, preferably two. Our camera rental rigs go out with 3 batteries, all hot (charged). Ditto. I have spares I've never even used, but I might have to one day. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  17. You're making me remember my training. You remember what you had Brad do when he was late? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  18. For aircraft maybe. But my experience tells me that a higher loading causes a higher airspeed, which in turn causes a higher ram air pressure, there fore a more rigid wing, to better counter turbulence. And I've got quite a bit of experience with tandems in turbulent conditions. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  19. http://www.bobscherer.com/Pages/Starship.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beechcraft_Starship A dang good aircraft with a sad ending. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  20. Naw, I'd rather be able to "place" my pilot chute in clean air. Ever watched spring loaded P/C's bounce in a burble? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  21. Good argument for throw out reserves (or better yet a pull out reserve).
