OHMIGOD that tibein mastiff is friggen adorable!!!!!! My brother and sisterinlaw have a St. Bernard...he is a big loveable moose....think he weighs in at 170lbs right now. Those big horse dogs are awesome. I just dont have the room. My bro's dog and my shiba are 1 month apart, so when they started playing together he was 35 lbs and she was 5...she kicked the shit out of him...now at 170 and 20 lbs she still kicks his ass...just weaves in and out of his legs till he falls over...I knew teaching her weave poles would have some benefit! Or she takes off at full speed towards something, knowing damn well she can stop and turn on a dime...and he cant Course she doest that to my Siberian Husky too... i think i need to send the like to that mastiff to my sister in law....she is gonna flip! Now again, breeding and training can seriously influence the behaviour of the dog. I had a friend who had a chow, the dog was awesome and very well behaved, never barked growled or snapped at anyone or anything. Then just out of the blue one day, she woke up with this strange feeling that something was staring at her..and there she was..the chow standing there on the bed staring at her...and then just lunged at her and attacked her. Her husband pulled the dog off...which then the dog tried to go after him. The dog just snapped. This case im 90% sure it was ALL in the breeding. Huskys, Rotties, Dobermans, German Shepards, Shibas, Pits and a few others all can have the same tendency. This can happen with ANY breed, especially those with poor breeding lines. But some breeds tend to be a bit more agressive then others when it comes to this as they were orginally bread for fighting/hunting/protection. This is where the owner must take the time and educate themselves not only on the breed, but how to train and work with the breed, as well as the breeding history. If mom and dad seem a bit agressive there is a chance that the offspring will to, which with trainging sometimes you can work around this. Good breeders will screen for these "bad" traits if they infact a bad trait for that breed type, remember this....cause some breeds are ment to be protective and agressive. Some breeders will breed for that, while others will try and tame that trait out. Take the time and talk to the prospective breeder, this isnt like going to buy a fish at a pet store...DONOT buy a dog from a pet store, even if they list having AKC breeding lines that means NOTHING. You want a respecitable breeder, who has references and will let you meet mom and dad (sometimes you cant meet both as they may have been used for stud). Ask them what tempermant they are breeding for, ask them if your situation will work for this breed. DO NOT LIE just cause you want a dog. Dogs can kill other animals, children and adults in some case. This is not something to take lightly, you should also be commited to this animal for its full life. Dogs, no animals for that matter are throw away items...you buy a dog, you had better be damn well ready to take care of it for 9-20 years depending on the breed. [/soapbox] This post was made in general to anyone who is considering getting a pet. IF at all possible go thru resuce organization for your favorite breed, if you really want a puppy please go to a responsible breeder...do not go to a pet store....oh and of course unless you are really serious about being a responsible breeder, not just breeding cause you think it is cool...please get your dog spayed or neutered. end of public announcement She is not a "Dumb Blonde" - She is a "Light-Haired Detour Off The Information Superhighway." eeneR TF#72, FB#4130, Incauto

What would you do if you had a cat that peed in places she shouldn't
eeneR replied to fireflytx's topic in The Bonfire
I agree 100% here with Tigra...the advice that is being posted here is outstanding...I know things like this can be frustrating, but try working with it. Michele's advice is solid and sound...it will take some time and patience...remember this is an animal. Animals can read our emotions far better then we can of ourselves. Show as much love and care as you can, if you get angry leave the area. I went thru something similar with my husky just about 2 years ago, he decided he was gonna start peeing at the door...and this would be right after I just took him out. I figured out what the cause was, and was patient with him, but firm. Took about a month, and it stopped. Changes in an animals life, especially sudden can really toss them for a loop and stress them out. Alot of times these are things we just dont realize. I know you can try your hardest to work thru this...and if it doesnt work, please find a good home. this is NO reason to put a cat to sleep. Dearie, some of us see this as a tremendous advantage If I walk out my front door I'm playing in the Park District or even the lake within two minutes. And I don't have to mow or shovel anything! I've lived in the Loop, Streeterville and now it's Old Town/Lincoln Park. I travel the globe but it will always be home sweet home Chicago to me. I love this place. Blutarsky 2008. No Prisoners! However I was responding directly to the request that they have a back yard for the dogs... Hell I have no back yard either, yea I have two dogs,...but I just walk them. I dont want to mow a lawn Screw that...I agree with you there. I will continue to walk the dogs, and clean up after them, let someone else do the mowing She is not a "Dumb Blonde" - She is a "Light-Haired Detour Off The Information Superhighway." eeneR TF#72, FB#4130, Incauto

Wriglyville = no yard. You have a lot of options in the burbs. If you are in the city, at times bands will cause issues as the houses are very close together. Some of the burbs will set noise restrictions. The further out of the city you go, bigger property, less problems with noise complaints I am in the Westerb burbs right now, but Naperville is kind of snobby, but I had a hard time finding a place that would take 2 dogs apartment wise. Normally if you go un-incorporated you can find some nice property for not too bad of price... Does the time you were born determine whether you're a "morning person"?
eeneR replied to NWFlyer's topic in The Bonfire
Damn that is an interesting theory...and what I find funny...i was born at 4:44pm heehee.. Anyway, i flip flop, sometimes I am a morning person and sometimes I am not. Havent found rhyme or reason. Well other then in the summer is when I am more of a morning person, sun up I get up. Winter it is much harder She is not a "Dumb Blonde" - She is a "Light-Haired Detour Off The Information Superhighway." eeneR TF#72, FB#4130, Incauto -

I actually got to watch a show on falconry (sp?) this past weekend. He had both Hawks and falcons, several different breeds. The hawks he used in a team, and that was neat, they just hung out waiting in the wings (pun intended) and followed him where ever he went. The Falcons waited for command. What was more amazing, they came when called!!! that was wild to watch. Though he had to remember to turn off the mic, cause it confused the hell out of them. This was very cool to watch. And yes this was LIVE not on TV! She is not a "Dumb Blonde" - She is a "Light-Haired Detour Off The Information Superhighway." eeneR TF#72, FB#4130, Incauto

How to wear sunglasses properly when Skydiving..?
eeneR replied to partyboy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yup I also agree...and know that some largerway organizers do not like you wearing sunglasses or goggles where you cannot see where you are looking... I will only wear sunglasses if I am having problems iwth my contacts...as I have prescription sunglasses that fit under my helmet, but will not do that on formations where I MUST have eyecontact with others... No actually im not....the average going rate for a HD person from what I have seen lately, is around $16-$20...depending on skills. I have seen them as low as $12. You *Might* get $25 an hour, but no way in hell unless it was some completely obscure very speciallized support need are you going to get regular HD for $45 an hour... Prove me wrong.... Having said that as well...$16 an hour with a stable job or $20 an hour for a few month contract where you are job hopping never sure you are working...that is a big deal to some. I would rather take the $$ hit for a lil more stability in the long run. She is not a "Dumb Blonde" - She is a "Light-Haired Detour Off The Information Superhighway." eeneR TF#72, FB#4130, Incauto
