  1. Hey gang, I thought I would share this, and hope that a few people may be willing to help out a friend who is doing this fundraiser. I know there are quite a few people here that have personally have had to deal with this. Me being included in that list. I would love to see her surpass her goal! anything can help. Thank you for any help. The Out of the Darkness Overnight is a 20-mile journey through the night, from dusk until dawn. It's a unique opportunity to help shed light on suicide, its impact and its prevention. We're bringing together friends, family members and loved ones whose lives have been touched by suicide or depression, and giving them a way to turn their heartbreak into hope for tomorrow. In 2006, The Overnight will take place in San Francisco on July 22-23, and in Chicago on August 12-13. Each walker agrees to raise at least $1,000. Net proceeds will benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, to fund research, education, survivor and awareness programs - both to prevent suicide and to assist those affected by suicide. Joanna is walking on August 12, 2006 in Chicago, IL. Hello! This year, I'll be taking part in the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s Overnight Walk Myself and thousands of other walkers are attempting to raise the funds for the awareness and prevention of suicide. With that, I am asking my friends to help me with this, by funding money towards my goal. All of which is tax deductible, and also will go to help this foundation. I have been waiting to do something for a friend of mine who had taken his life. Not only this, but depression is something that many people have struggled with at some point in their life. Hopefully with this, and your help there can be some ways to help people along so that the consequences of extreme do not have to be taken. We know how important and special life is. Whatever you may do to aid my goal, will be greatly appreciated by me. My thoughts and hopes to, and I look forward to begining this path. 7. Roflmao! I think it was his son with him..they kind of looked alike, or it was a younger kid being trained. He was beside himself when I grabbed hold of one end of the server told him where to hold on and yanked it up started moving to carry it to the crate. he stood there for a second like a deer caught in headlights...least he did move pretty quick cause I prolly could have yanked it out of his hands at that moment. He was so confused I have not laughed this hard in a long time...priceless I tell ya She is not a "Dumb Blonde" - She is a "Light-Haired Detour Off The Information Superhighway." eeneR TF#72, FB#4130, Incauto

(to dude with him) Hey billyjoebob they have a girl engineer. ...I manage to get thru the rest of that call and verifying the ETA for pick up. They show up, I go downstairs to go thru the logistical crap for server shipping...and the dude looks at me "So you are Renee? wow a girl" I really had thought I had been thru all of that. 13. Again I will agree with this 100%...Just want to add though, if you are home but not able to keep an eye on him, you do have to understand also what is mentioned. They need to potty very often. Dont wait for them to have to go, just take them out every hour to begin with, then increase time between...if they go potty give them lots of praise and tell them what they are doing right when they do it...If they start to pee.."Go pee...good boy" etc. Poop "Go poop...good boy". Both of mine are trained to go on command. That is exactly how I did it. They learned ot associate those commands with the action. When they do good, let them know this...ANYTIME they do. If you see a behaviour you like, pet them let them know this is good. They will repeat it. Ex..puppy being good chewing a bone....let them know this is good. That will teach them what is good to chew. The more effort you put into training your puppy the first 6months to the year...the better the rest of the puppys life will be. Along with the potty training is manners. Yes it is cute when a lil 10lb puppy jumps on you...but when it is a 60lb dog, not so cute. Dont let behaviours start now that you do not want them to have when they are full grown. You must be firm with these decisions. Another good example if you dont want your dog stealing food, NEVER EVER feed them from the couch, table or anywhere where you eat from EVER. Always either done treat style while training or in the food dish. In general neither one of mine will take any food off of my coffee table. I had one incedent in 7 years of having the two dogs.
  14. then they want to give you kisses...bluch. I think there is stuff you can add to the food to make the poop nasty for them, but I cant remember now. check www.jbpet.com Also even worse then that, is when they munch on goose crackers (goose poop) Gross and can make them sick, they can get worms and another parasite that the name is eluding me that begins with a G and humans can get it as well. 15. DING DING DING DING.... Crate training is your best friend for sooo many reasons. Not just potty training, though it helps tremendously. They do not want to poop or pee where they sleep/eat. If you allow the puppy to roam free all the time the will keep finding places to go if he is unattended. One other thing about crate training, do not use it as a form of punishment for them. And do not get a crate that is too big. They make panels that you can buy to adjust the size of the crate as the puppy grows. 20. Friday I took my little girl to the Vet to have her eyes checked out and few other things. Her eyes were a bit blood shot, and looked cloudy. The vet did a Glaucoma test on her, and low and behold she came up with a very HIGH pressure reading in one eye and above normal in the other. They had to do an emergency IV drip with Mannitol to try and bring the pressure down to try and save the one eye that was reading above normal and to attempt to save any vision if there was any left at all in the other eye. Other then a little bit of redness and cloudiness, that really didnt look all that bad, there were no other real tell tail signs of a problem. But that right there is the issue. By the time the symptoms are there odds are it is already too late. We are not sure, but odds are she has already lost vision in the one eye. We are working on treating (no cure) the other eye. Many breeds are infact prone to have this problem which is genetic. In Shibas it tends to surface around the age of 6 (Nikita is 7) I was not aware of this, and feel horrible. Had I known I would have been screening her for this over the last few years. Cant change that now. What I can do is share this with others so that they may be able to save a pets vision even if only temporarily. In addition to Shibas, The American Cocker Spaniel, Basset Hound, Siberian Husky, Samoyed, and Shar Pei are prone to glaucoma, although any breed of dog may be affected. Most reputable breeders do screen for this. In my case my girl is a rescue that didnt come from good breeding. There are more then just the above effected by this, take the time and do a little research. If you notice any redness or discomfort in your pets eyes, do not hesitate to get them to the vet. It doesnt take long for the damage to take hold There is not cure, only treatment, Nikita will be blind in both eyes with in the next 2 years. This is genetic and one of the MANY reasons why going to a reputable breeder instead of your local pet store is important. Yes they may cost a bit more, but that is because they breed the dogs with the intent to keep the lines clear of these defects. A few hundred bucks more on a dog in the beginning will save you THOUSANDS in the long run in pet care. When I rescued Nikita I was aware of this, to this date I have spent at least $3000 dealing with genetic defects. I will continue to spend what is needed to keep her comfortable, as long as she is playing and is happy, that is all I want. So again, I know I have posted this before DO NOT BUY DOGS FROM ANY PET STORE. For that matter dont buy pure bred dogs from people who do not screen for this stuff.
