  1. If internet quarterbacking of a sophisticated business's financial decisions brings you to a really obvious paradox like this, isn't it possible that you're just plain wrong and they know something you don't? First Class Citizen Twice Over
  2. Fascinating speculation. Do you have experience in advertising? A lot of people are good at spouting confident bullshit about things they know nothing about. Must come from watching TV sitcoms about advertising agencies or something. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  3. Maybe ... or maybe the pool of advertisers for that sort of risky account has been tapped. Or maybe that pool of advertisers isn't interested in a one-off splurge. If imus were to continue, this would blow over eventually. Notice that limbaugh's advertisers have been with him for many years. Short radio campaigns during a controversy are probably worth approximately one small bucket of warm spit. No, any way I slice this, it looks like a money loser for the network. Of course the network is WAY more sophisticated than you or I are and they seem to agree. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  4. We don't own a tv. We don't watch tv. We don't watch ANY tv. I sometimes have to ask friends to turn off their tv when I'm visiting. I won't go into bars or restaurants that have tvs blaring. Why are they there? How annoying! And unlike the rest of the western world that watches 5 hours of the crap every day, I hardly ever have to say, "Dinner was just fast food for me. I'd cook but I just don't have the time." "I'd love to go to the park with you but I'm SOOO busy." "I don't KNOW where all my time goes." First Class Citizen Twice Over
  5. A key factor, and surely the largest, but not the only one. There's a meta-advertising that takes place outside of simple ad views. This becomes an affinity group of sorts and that creates a polarization. If Company-X were to join Imus after this bruhaha, it would be well publicized that they'd done so. Some people would feel a new loyalty to Company-X (out of support for imus) and others would feel a new aversion to Company-X (out of distaste for imus.) That's a very risky step for a company to take. And why? For ad views? Hardly. There are ad views available all over the planet that don't come with the polarization risks. Limbaugh has advertisers but they're of a very particular sort -- medium-sized, privately owned businesses. They have a freedom to participate in controversial projects if they choose but that pool is limited. I suspect essentially zero new qualified advertisers would appear to take the place of the missing ones unless the advertising rates were severely discounted and that would be a major financial hit. 6. Nobodies really; the topic of the week on the Feeding Frenzy Media. Close your eyes for 15 minutes and it'll have passed -- to be replaced by the next whatever. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  7. Check. The cold waters of BC are beautiful. It's maybe a bit more of an adventure than warm water diving but not as much so as you'd think. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  8. That's a fascinating speculation. Do you have any experience in advertising? First Class Citizen Twice Over

  11. I have no interest in discussing this emotion-laden, populist editorial's content. It IS worthwhile to point out that its very form makes it useless, lest someone miss that and get bogged down in details. I might very well have saved someone from a doomed jerkoff session. Your incessant posting and reposting of every vitriolic, pre-ordained anti-science, anti-planet rant is entertaining though. I admire billvon for trying so very hard to explain basic information to you. In a way I also admire how persistently you fend it off. That's a talent in a way. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  12. You use all sorts of strange divinations to assure yourself you're right. Here you're interpreting being ignored. In another thread you interpreted mockery as evidence that you were right. I offered this comment to you there. it's relevant again: Today on my way past that doorway he blithered at me about "damn chinamen" and something garbled about crystal meth and prostitutes and (I think) hockey. I ignored him. That proves he's omniscient, right? First Class Citizen Twice Over

  14. Do you know the difference between an "article" and an "editorial"? Hint: Editorials begin with informal phrases like "If you need further evidence..." They use explosive words with high emotional content like "hysteria", "stunning reminder", and "caving in". In case that doesn't give you enough to identify editorials, pretty much anything in the popular news these days counts. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  15. The world is rapidly going to become a stranger place when people become conscious that their every move -- every utterance -- every wank near an open window -- could become a video on the internet. Everyone's going to walk around as if their every move is watched and judged -- just the way god is reputed to watch and judge. God becomes real. God is the internet. First Class Citizen Twice Over

  19. If I ran an isolated country and wanted some good press, I'd round up 300 unfortunate losers, machine gun them, then announce that my government was prosecuting the WaR No TeRrOr {cue ominous music}. Repeat that every 3 or 4 months and America will keep sending money. Works like a charm. First Class Citizen Twice Over

  22. I'm quite confident ncclimber knows all about how the different types of proofs work and when they're called for. He's not ignorant. He's also knows how to slip from one type to another when it amuses him to upend the conversation and distract people. First Class Citizen Twice Over
