  1. Sorry, I've never been good at telling the difference between people who bitch to fix things and people who bitch because it makes them feel better. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  2. As much as it's hip to hate government agencies, they're incompetent, not evil. It's time consuming, but all he has to do is go in and fill out the form. If he already did it, go in and do it again. These people are basically uneducated, passive drones following rules or at least trying to. The rule is you have to fill out a little form every time your car gets scratched. Stupid rule and stupid people enforcing it. Someone lost the form your father filled out. So go make another one and make them go away. That's really all it takes. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  3. There's 49 different US states and 137 other countries. Report back when you find a better place, ok? We'd all like to know about it. First Class Citizen Twice Over

  5. Oh hmmm. Wow. I didn't even think about this. That opens a whole world of possibilities. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  6. I want to cook after coming home. And I rarely just spend one hour on dinner. Counting buying fresh food each night, I can easily spend twice that preparing our meal. Call it three to four hours if we have guests coming which is usually at least twice a week. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  7. I simply won't go near anything made by a chain restaurant or a factory. Food is created by cooks discovering recipes. It's not food when a chemist invents formulas. So I don't eat fast food, chain food, boxed food, canned food, frozen food. Give me fresh vegetables and meats. I'll make something delicious out of them, I promise! Keep your prepared, convenience garbage. I don't need convenience. Some exceptions: there are some foods which just don't come any other way. I don't know how to grow fresh rice for instance, so I buy it dried from the best importers I can find. Milk, wine, and beer come in bottles. Sometimes I'll use dried italian pastas instead of fresh. Spices often come in packages, although my usual supplier buys in bulk and bags it up by the ounce. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  8. Ok, so I'm going to sound like an astounding snob, but I don't like Kristal or Dom. They're BORING! Give me a Bollinger R.D. any day. That's my all time favorite champagne and I'd trade a case of K or Dom for a bottle of R.D. On the other hand, our local favorite food boutique has fresh california (sustainable, organic, hand picked, free range, dolphin friendly) caviar for a decent price. Hmmm... This is sounding tempting. Some homemade crackers, some creme fraiche, slivers of roasted pequillo peppers.... Grilled duck breast and white asparagus... A slice of opera cake with sauterne for afterwards... First Class Citizen Twice Over
  9. Four years together as of yesterday. It would have been a better celebration, but work is kicking our asses. We stayed in the office programming strange website functionality until 9pm. But fear not. We're going to go play this weekend. If the weather holds, perhaps some anniversary skydiving! First Class Citizen Twice Over
  10. Nope, this is a squeezeless vacation. Imagine that! After four years together day and night, we're going to try to practice independence again, if only for 2 weeks. Fantastic ideas. From you and everyone. I'm overwhelmed by the options. I'm clear on the idea that a day isn't enough, but I'll just consider it an amuse bouche and save my appetite for another trip. 11. I actually refuse to go to any restaurant with televisions so I think I'll skip this particular place. But thanks for the suggestion. Televisions bring me zero pleasure. I seriously don't know why anybody has one. First Class Citizen Twice Over

    Minimum height

Hmmm. Might this be a good method for a certain technical B we've been discussing? An extra 20-30 feet could be useful in getting over some trees. Why PCA off low objects if the Tard gives you a quicker canopy? First Class Citizen Twice Over
  13. The galleries it is then! The only MA museum that didn't COMPLETELY waste my time was in SF. The only reason it had any value to me at all was because they accidently booked a fascinating NON-modern-art show of photographic portraits. Modern art can bite my credulous ass. 14. It turns out there's no efficient way back from the Domincan Republic, so I end up with a 24 hour layover in NYC next month. I've never been there before and I gather it's a great place to spend a week or two. Fantastic museums and shows, tourism magnets everywhere, and food. FOOD! Three and four-star restaurants and real deli sandwiches and bagels. BAGELS! And pizza. The best! I only have a little less than a day to play however. So what would you do? What's the one best meal in NYC? What's the one neighborhood to wander? What's the one best museum? First Class Citizen Twice Over
  15. Lisa, a close look at the headers of Klez-bearing emails can sometimes (often) give you clues about the unintentional sender. Then you can tell the specific individual they're infected. I've been successful at getting rid of most of my daily Klez by tracking it down to just two clients. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  16. If you use a Windows machine, Eudora will not prevent the virus attachment from being downloaded. Reading the email is completely harmless but if you execute the attachment, your machine can still be infected regardless of your email program. However, unless you have Outlook, your machine will not become a new source for infecting others. Eudora is not vulnerable to that particular function of Klez. Some varieties of Klez will still do other damage to your computer no matter what email program you use. If nobody used Outlook, Klez would stop spreading. In fact, all email-spread viral packages would stop spreading. Microsoft is responsible for 95% of the worldwide vulnerability in the computer infrastructure. One has to conclude it's intentional. 17. You know what's funny? Watching straight men go to ridiculous lengths to spontaneously deny they're looking at a naked man lustfully. Can you spot those who protesteth too much? First Class Citizen Twice Over

  20. A 172 for $52/hr? Wow. Is that wet? Usually I see 172s at $70-80/hr. 152s go for about $55/hr. Are you sure that's not what they're offering? First Class Citizen Twice Over
  21. I've never been to a dz where the jump tickets paid for beer. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  22. Figure roughly $120/hour for a 182. So at 90 minutes per leg, that's about $360 R/T. And it's not fair to say most of the cost of a jump ticket is gas. There are lots of other factors. There's cost of the plane, maintenance, insurance, hanger costs, salaries for the pilot, dzo, manifest, instructors, and rigger, rigs and other equipment, licences, land rental, marketing, utilities, bribes, and for god's sake maybe even a little profit in the end. 23. Food and wine is important but your subject is irritating. Name the thread "Food and wine" and I'll be all over it. Naming it "This is Important" just diminishes the likelihood that anyone will read the next thread that claims to be important. Don't use fun to destroy the usefulness of the site. 24. This is not important and the subject is misleading. Misleading subjects really diminish the value of time spent on dropzone.com. First Class Citizen Twice Over
  25. It's really funny when straight people write about gay sex. They have such amusing ideas about it. First Class Citizen Twice Over
