it was your post that made my try my service tag on the dell support site, but you didn't specifically say to do that so i'm not quite ready to label you with that monitor. however, i will annoint you with that if you can fix a few other glitches for me. 1. whenever i'm loading a web page or a program is opening up, the pointer on my screen that moves when i move the mouse locks up or gets choppy. 2. i have another hard drive in the computer, but it doesn't show up when i open "my computer". how do i get this to show up, and can make my computer use this additional space in order for it to run smoother. 3. before reformatting the harddrive, i backed it up on a seagate black armour external hard drive. after i got the os re-installed, i restored my files. now everything appears to be back except for my music. when i open itunes, it looks as if its all there, but when i try to play a song, i get a message that says "the song "name of song" could not be used because the original file could not be found. would you like to locate it?" wtf? is this one of those bullshit itunes things that sees this as me copying the music to another computer and now won't let me use it? 4. during startup, a shitload of processes start. i'm sure i don't need them all to start and they are probably just slowing down my computer. when i turn stuff off and restart my computer, it starts up in diagnostic mode. 5. my external drive is 1 terabyte. can i create a space on it separate from backup section that i can use as another hard drive for storage? I will work with you a bit when I get off work today, but all of what your asking should be easy fixes. The mouse is probably getting choppy cause of low resourses, open taskmanager (start> run> taskmgr.exe) click on performance and you can see your processor and memory usage, youll probably see one high... if thats the case, let me know. 2 Your second hard drive may not be formatted, if there was nothing on there, or you just got it, you can format it by going to your computer management (right click on my computer> manage) go to disk management, you should see the drive on your right side of the screen, if its greyed out (or you get a window that says to initilize the drive) then it isnt formatted, you can right click, choose create partition of some sort, (dont remember exact wording right now) and go defaults all the way thru the screen, it will format it and show up in your my computer. Itunes isnt difficult, you probably just need to delete everything in there, dont delete the files when it asks, just delete it from the itunes, then have itunes search for music... should be something like file> add folder. put the directory of your music folder in there and you should be good! youre probably using msconfig to turn the services and such off, there is an option in there to reboot into safe mode (may be on the first page of msconfig, there are 3 options: normal, selective, diagnositc) choose selective, try that. The drive, you should be able to just make a new folder and put your stuff there... I dont like using software like the seagate or western digital software to back up hard drives, look on the microsoft website for SyncToy... its pretty good at what it does, and can run automatically as often as you want. If you go that route, i would use the second drive in your computer as the backup. When I get off work, ill give you my phone number and you can call me, Ill tell you what I ALWAYS do with my XP comptuers that saves me ALOT of heartache when it comes to reloading them. i fixed it by looking up the driver on dell support using the service tag rather than model number. i will never pay dell support. a while back i re-installed the os on my laptop and needed the product key. they wanted my credit card number so they could charge me $45 to tell me the key. i argued with the guy for a while and finally hung up. i then found the key on a sticker on the bottom of the lapop. fuck them. Dell tech support sucks, dell comptuers are pretty good... especially the laptops, I can download the entire service manual for any system and see exactly which screws have to come out to get where I need to go... which makes a hell of a lot of difference on laptops. I have an MXV with the side box, nothing real special, except I did do one modification which I really have never seen... I wanted to eliminate having to remove and re-install the camera and possibly break the mounting screw mount as seems to be an issue... So for a grand total of about $5 and ~20 mins work, I have a camera that should really never have to come out of the box unless I want to use it for something else. The only function that the quickset actually does is enable the pretty easy access buttons, there is no relation to that software and the wired ethernet controller, the wireless would show as disabled (in some versions) but it wouldnt not allow the software to be installed for the card. Whats your service tag? Its a 7 digit alpha numeric number on the bottom of the computer. ETA: Sorry, you're on a desktop, you can go into the BIOS utility (F2 I believe on boot at the dell screen) and it will have the service tag in the info screen. What if he was using a thought out tersh rig? Such as a T-10 style harness under his normal rig with a belly mounted main for purposes of cutting away then going to his normal main? It might not re-enforce the EPs but it could easily simulate the feeling of cutting away and going back into freefall... as well as whatever malfunction you want, packed that way or not. Im not saying everyone and their mother should go do this, but, if hes gonna do it, minas well be as safe as he can. Doubling up on harnesses might not be the way to go then.
