    It's because your brain understands the speedometer on a '53 Oldsmobile quicker than the Warp Speed digital display on the Enterprise! +1 I can read and identify my Neptune WAY faster than I can look at an analog and determine what altitude I am at. (well, I could till I cracked it last Saturday... New one will be here today!) I guess I just grew up looking at analog clocks, once digitals came out, I started using them way more often.     Never tried to turn one off while its in 'flight' however I believe it can be done. As for reaching behind them, not likely... you have to look at it to know when to click the button, and to verify its off.     UPT has some good shots of a reserve deployment on the skyhook video. Its an MP4 video IIRC. Also, if you wanted to rip videos from youtube, there are youtube downloaders that will download it and some even convert it to whatever flavor of encoding you like.
